Subject: RE: Show us where you train!Below is an ariel view of Ala Moana Beach Park. That small sliver of water between the beach and the reef is actually 1km long and provides a very nice (nearly simming pool calm) place for long swims. That is my prefered swim area for a down and back of 2km. There are also running paths in the park with a full loop being 3 miles. I plan on taking advantage of both of these after work today.
Below is a shot of Kailua Beach Park. This is my alternate swim location. The water here tends to be a little more rough since it is on the windward side of the island. It is also more prone to jellyfish. The distances here are only an estimate but I usually start near the boat ramp and then swim up the beach around the outside of the swim bouys (if you look close you can barely see them). I have been told that the distance is about 750 yrds but I'm not sure. I like to follow this swim with a 3 mile loop run through a very exclusive neighborhood nearby called Lanikai.
Here's an ariel shot of Diamond Head Crater. Neighboring Kapiolani Park has bike and run paths as well as an awesome vista. The run around the crater and the park is nearly 6 miles with some hills. I also like to ride from Ala Moana Beach Park (pictured above and off to the left of the area pictured below) around the front of Diamond head and out along the right side of the pic below to Hawaii Kai. The out and back is about 25 miles. This is also the location of the Honolulu Triathlon and the Honolulu Tinman (both Olys).
Below is a shot of Kualoa Point which dominates my view during my return leg of my long runs from home.
I'd post more but I think the more I do the more I'm making enemies. Edited by Shaved_Wookie 2006-01-03 4:01 PM
