Luminox, the toughest watch I've had. It stood up to four rough years in the surf during college. But all it took was 1 sec in a 3 Tesla magnetic field to kill it . Plus it glows in the dark for 10+ years.

Uh... ya.... I like to watch....

Timex Ironman on my wrist since they first came out. I have some more classy looking ones in my dresser drawer but the batteries have long since died. Too many other toys in this world that I can't afford but yet still rank higher than a new watch.

Oooooh watches ;-) - my second favourite shopping after Tri stuff...

Currently wearing Rolex GMT Master II (my favourite travelling watch as it does two time zones), also have a Panerai Luminor Marina Auto and a Radomir 8-day, a rose gold IWC Portuguese Moon Phase, a Lange & Sohne One and an Omega Seamaster. My wife told me that if I wanted a new car then some of the watches would have to go. Hence still driving a 6 year old car.

Why? I don't think guys should wear jewellrey apart from a watch and a wedding ring, my clothes tend to be quite staid for work (suits (dark blue or grey), shirts (white or pastels), ties (plain or slight pattern), shoes (black)) and pleasure (preppy as it comes) and so my watch is a way for me to show my character. Aditionally I love the precision mechanical side to it all, and the fact that outside of the Rolex most people have never heard of the above or would have any idea.

On a separate issue, a friend's new boyfriend spotted my Panerai the other day and commented saying that he had one too. I later found out that what he had was a fake, not just any fake but one that he's actually paid a couple of hundred for. Why? I just don't get it. Apparently he has bought enough expensive fakes to buy himself a nice real one. Then again, maybe non-horologists don't understand me either.

DerekL - 2006-03-13 6:49 AM Whorologist?

Whorologist- Heh.

I've always had this stupid infatualtion w/watches, particularly automatics.  Something about wearing this tiny little machine on my wrist that will long outlive me.  I dunno...

Anywho, currently I've got a Citizen Promaster automatic that I picked up in Malta that I've become very attached to (Tell's the date in English and German ).  I've always had a thing for the Omega's (particularly the Sea's and the Speed's), but I can't seem to bring myself to replace the Citizen, lest it become offended.

Artemis - 2006-03-10 10:44 AM I worked at a watch store in high school, so I have a bit of a watch fetish. I'm a big fan of Movados and Skagens because they are so thin. Although, I can appreciate pretty much any nice watch.

Aww yeah.  So awesome and sleek looking... yet so hard to read when you're in a hurry.

My students think I am a total dork because I wear my Polar all the time (not the strap, just the watch).  It wasn't cheap so I use it as my everyday watch.

So, you've just made me completely jealous! I like the jewellery rationalization. I will pitch that to my wife the next time I buy her diamonds.

I love the IWC that you have. Actually, I love all the watches that you have. Congrats, you have a collection that I can only dream of.

Currently looking at a new bike so if anyone wants to swap some black and red steel for some black and red carbon... let me know. (pic of Rolex borrowed from ebay)

(The Rolex is going to have to go to fund the P3C - but that's the great thing about Rolex's, I bought mine near new (3mo old) secondhand and a secondhand dealer has bid me more now than what I paid for it. On the IWC I was wearing when I took the Rolex in it looks like I've made around a 30% return...)

I love my Breitling!  But that should be no shocker.  It is an aviation thing!

Very handsome. But do you really know how to spin that E6B for any useful information? Wink

My watch "fetish" is limited to collecting all the colors of the $50 Ladies Timex Sleek. I only have blue/grey and red/grey. I wear the red one most because it seems to be a rare color...can't find it on the timex website. Probably because most people think it's ugly

omg HOW COULD I HAVE MISSED THIS THREAD....

My dream watch is a Patek

I love collecting watches. I currently have:

Breitling colt ocean

Breitling old one, it is the same one worn by Bobby Darin

Oris

Rolex air king wanted to be different everyone has a daytona or seamaster)

Tag Tiger Woods

gucci

another Oris that is old.

This of course doesnt include my lance 4, Timex IM, Garmin, copy of a russian army watch.

I quit collecting when I found out I had to buy a 4 place watch winder to keep them going because it is a head ache to have to set them everytime I wanted to wear one.

I also collect writing instruments (pens for you laymens). I have about 40 of those, from Deltas, montblancs, etc.

It took me about 10 seconds to get what you were talking about. I watched the movie again this weekend. You gotta love Christopher Walken:

"So, he hid it, in one place he knew he could hide something: his a$$. Five long years he wore this watch . . . up his a$$. Then, he died of dysentery, he gave me the watch. I hid this uncomfortable hunk of metal up my a$$ two years. Then, after seven years, I was sent home to my family. And now, little man, I give the watch to you."
