Here, here ... but that is also part of the Race Director's business plan.  For instance, over 500 people did not show up/did not race Steelhead last weekend.  That is huge.

I know at least 1/2 dozen people that will not be racing IMFL this fall (Jonathan being one of them) - and that is $550/pop.

This year I registered early for everything so I didn't have to worry. Unfortunately I have been sick or injured a few times and spent more than $200 on races I did not do in '08!

I wish I only spent $200 on races I'm not doing.

^^^I believe what Brian is saying.  PTC sprint is my only race that I've paid for and not done 2 years ago.  Bad injury.  I'm still a little bitter that they wouldn't make any accomidations to defer/ return partial money.  Mainly b/c there are usually a good number of people on a wait list.  Other local race directors have been a little more forgiving when it comes to transferring numbers when I've been the one receiving someone else's number at last second.  Oh well, you live and learn.

Talked to two guys while swimming at Kedron Aquatic yesterday. They did the wed night swim also. Said about 50 feet out from the start of the swim you come to a STOP in what they called a hedge of lake grass. Nasty hair like stuff.
Should be interesting.

That lake is nasty!  For 5 days after I did the Peacthree Int'l race last year I could not keep food in my stomach.  Just be careful not to drink any of the water!

I heard/read that packet pick up is going to be a Drake Field/Transition on Fri evening from 5-8PM. The Wyndam is not the host hotel this year for some reason.

I'm in. Have done it the last 4 years. Experienced the grass during the swim. Basically as you are stroking with your arms you pull through the grass sometimes pulling up a handful. It wasn't fun, but got through it. Still a great race IMHO.

A further note on the lake. I checked the Tri-Peachtree city website and one of the organizers said in their forum that they will try and clear the big patches of lake grass for the race.

I'm In. This is my third year for this race. The first year I don't remeber the lake being so nasty but last year it was and this year it's not looking good.

I shaved 25 minutes off my time in 2007 from 2006. 20 minutes were my bike time alone. Upgraded from a steel walmart mountain bike to an aluminum road bike. So last year I bought my PR but this year I'm going to have to earn it.

Im in.
For what it's worth, I swam the lake yesterday (Tues. the 19th) and they were removing a lot of the grass. The parts they had gotten too were nice, the parts they hadn't reached yet were thick.

My wife went latter in the afternoon and said it was all cut and floating, which made swimming tough, but that it was being skimmed off.

nostang - 2008-08-15 9:12 AM I'm In....So last year I bought my PR but this year I'm going to have to earn it.

Now that is funny ... these shorter distance races hurt more than the longer ones as the pace is just below and sometimes a wee bit above throw-up level.

Hopefully it won't rain Saturday.

I am also praying for no fall-out rain from Fay. I would hate a cancellation, and with baby #3 about here, a reschedule will probably suck.

But if it is just rain I won't mind racing in it. Florida 70.3 taught me how to deal with it.

Good Luck Everyone! I hope we all exceed our own expectations!

I would doubt there would be a re-schedule. You dont cancel a Tri just because its raining. You race in the rain.
Lighting might be a different store. Worst case, they change it to a Du...but that would suck also.
Fingers crossed.

The forcast just got a little worse, but still no mention of lightning storms, so we could be good.

Wow, Florida 70.3, Chattanooga Waterfront, now this. I'm kinda liking racing in the rain... bring it on.

Does anybody like a little bit 'o' wind with their rain? This is shaping up to be a very interesting race. If it is rainy and windy, racing against the elements may enhance the experience of the race. This has the potential to be a lotta of fun.

Is anybody free tonight to help me take the sails of my sunfish and figure out how to rig them on my bike?
