Iron Donkey![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Birkierunner - 2012-11-08 1:40 PM A friend of mine sent me these quotes, which may have already appeared somewhere on BT. I'm tempted to post them in the other thread but it wouldn't do any good. “A democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It can only exist until the voters discover that they can vote themselves largesse from the public treasury. From that moment on, the majority always votes for the candidates promising the most benefits from the public treasury with the result that a democracy always collapses over loose fiscal policy, always followed by a dictatorship. The average age of the world's greatest civilizations has been 200 years.” Alexis de Tocqueville “You cannot legislate the poor into freedom by legislating the wealthy out of freedom. What one person receives without working for, another person must work for without receiving. The government cannot give to anybody anything that the government does not first take from somebody else. When half of the people get the idea that they do not have to work because the other half is going to take care of them, and when the other half gets the idea that it does no good to work because somebody else is going to get what they work for, that my dear friend, is about the end of any nation. You cannot multiply wealth by dividing it.” Adrian Rogers Some good economics lessons. Good to see you post, Birkie. |

![]() acd123 - 2012-11-10 10:49 AM tuwood - 2012-11-07 4:46 PM I had a bit of an election day hangover today. I most certainly wasn't happy but I'm not running to the gun store to stock up on guns and bullets either. OK, that actually sounds like a good idea in general, maybe I'll still do that. OK, anyway. I always thought in the back of my mind I wouldn't be too upset if Obama won reelection because of the way he stacked the deck with tax raises and the bad parts of ACA not hitting until after the election. If Romney would have won and not been able to repeal the ACA it would get messy in a hurry. I figure now Obama gets to take full credit for the good (and the bad) that comes out of ACA.
I still remember the fools who ran out after 2008 saying Obama was going to take their guns away. How did that work out? Do you remember when Obama was going on about how we need to change our gun laws because too many were making their way to Mexico and other countries? Seems since Fast and Furious was brought to light he's kind kept his hypocritical mouth shut about that. |

Seems since Fast and Furious was brought to light he's kind kept his hypocritical mouth shut about that. 1. Nice job shifting the goal posts because you guys know you were delusional when you thought Obama was going to ban guns. 2. Too many guns were making their way to Mexico and other countries not oncluding the ones we sent. Fast and Furious is a nonsense scandal. People act like if we hadn't supplied them with guns they wouldn't have gotten them otherwise. When you make krap up it's not really a goal post. Feel free to call me delusional or anything else if that makes you feel better about yourself. What I stated was fact and you just make krap up about what others have said then try to apply it to everyone who believes the 2nd amendment should honored by our government. Chris Mathews said he was happy about Hurricane Sandy devastating New York because he thought it helped Obama win the election, should I use the same logic as you and say that everyone voting for Obama felt the same way? |

Elite![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Yo cruse, acd makes a good point ...4 years later, has Obama even made an attempt to "ban guns?" Honestly, I should have opened up a gun shop a while back. They get free advertising from the NRA. The hysteria being whooped up is incredibly good for guns and ammo shops! It's like going to a car lot..."Oh, you've gotta buy it today sir! You won't see prices like this pretty soon!" Gun manufacturers and gun shops have to be making money hand over fist right about now. |

CD this was acd's comment; "I still remember the fools who ran out after 2008 saying Obama was going to take their guns away. How did that work out?" I don't know one person, who 4 years ago or now thought that the gubmnt was going to come and take our guns away. Do you know anyone who actually thought this? Did people think that the possibility of new federal gun laws were possible with Obama, absolutely. That's a lot different that what add said. I don't know why and I'd probably get booted from the site if I started calling other forum members fools and delusional with sweeping generalizations of a group of people. So let me ask you CD, do you think that in the next four years there will be any change in Federal Gun Law? As far as people having expectations and them not being met, how many thought there would be immigration law change and "how did that work out for you fools"? |

Cruse, acd was definitely out of line using the "fools" comment...sweeping generalizations aren't cool either. I should have been more specific earlier...there were a lot of folks (and still are) that believe/d that Obama wants to take away their guns. (he doesn't) Do I think federal gun laws will change significantly in the next 4 years? No. Do I think the Democrats will push for them? No. But, could there be small changes? Maybe. Hollow-tip bullets, automatic weapons, massive quantities of ammo purchases...yeah, there might be something there...if there's a huge rise in gun violence. Aside from that, I stick by my earlier statement. Gun shops are rolling in dough utilizing scare tactics...I'm not blaming them, they're being smart business folks!
