Master![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Again, sponsors and money rule the day. While having more {fill in the blank} involved may attract a different demographic, what will happen if more and more of those different categories start to compete simply because 'we need X number of Y in every race' and NOT because they are actually any good? The competition gets watered down and you end up driving your fan base (and money) away. Welcome to professional cheerleading. |

![]() KateTri1 - 2013-02-22 1:53 AM tri808 - 2013-02-21 9:25 PM Her team set her up with the fastest car, and she didn't screw it up. LOL! That's a super dudish comment. I like the basketball playing otter much better. I would have made that comment about any driver who wins the pole at Daytona or Talledega. These are super speedways. When qualifying, all drivers are doing is flooring the gas and navigating around four turns for one lap (after you have already built up speed). There is no braking, shifting, accelerating, etc. She doesn't have to worry about conserving fuel, tire wear, or pass other drivers. Could I have won the pole with her car? Absolutely not. But I'm not a professional driver either. If she (or any other driver) were to win the pole on a short course or road course...then I would give the driver more credit. Sure, Danica winning a pole at any race is going to create news and buzz. I get that. But if you expect me to believe that her winning the pole at Daytona somehow means that she's now an elite driver...um...no. I would love to see her grow into an elite driver, by winning races...but again...the Daytona pole just means she had the fastest car.

I'd tear up the strip in less time than it takes her to get down it. |

![]() | ![]() BFDoug, you're also missing the point that there are 43 drivers in the Sprint Cup Series. They are for the most part the best drivers among a few hundred thousand stock race car drivers. The pool starts out very small and stays small. I don't think it's a keeping "them" out. I think it just isn't something people consider putting their kids in. It's dangerous from the get go. There was a 6 year old killed in a florida crash last year. Take Jimmy Johnson, he was a motorcross driver as a kid, broke his femur and hip. So he switched to carts. Most parents would say "no more racing for you." NASCAR would be darned if they did try to get kids into an inherently dangerous sport because the injuries and fatalities would climb. And they apparently are insulted if they don't as well. |

I think it is also "what are they interested in". What are the kids interested in? What is the % lower down in those ranks of minorities (race and gender)? Heck, same could be said, from a race perspective, about triathlons. Still not big in the minority communities. mainly a bunch of white people. |

Agreed. I was trying to tease you. Big fail. ( I should have waited for Bradely's response) Edited by KateTri1 2013-02-22 10:50 AM |

![]() | ![]() One more point about starting young. I read where the average age at which Sprint Cup and F1 drivers start in motor sports is 5. Average. Michael Schumacher started in carts at 4!!! |

Agreed her talent was really doubles but everybody expected her to dominate every facet of the game when she had obligations to being hot. |

Sensei ![]() | ![]() I never bought into the Danika Patrick marketing/media hype. First of all, she's pretty but not UBER hawt as some people seem to think. Basically, she's a pretty woman who's in a man's world with mostly men viewership. If she didn't race cars, it's not like she could fall back on modeling or anything. Just not that good looking to me. However, I give her lots of respect for a driver - even more so now. If you recall, she did well as an indy car driver and NOW decides to switch to NASCAR and takes the poll in one of the biggest evens the sport has? Well done. I would be impressed if anyone did that - pretty-ish girl or not. |

Especially with NASCAR terms and slang like: Air Box Gettting Loose Drive Shaft Happy Hour Back Marker Splash and Go Tight Sheesh.....you people. |

![]() | ![]() You forgot: -Loose is fast and on the edge of out of control. -tight is in control but you go slower. -Rubbin' is racing. Danica Patrick has an unfair advantage because she is 5ft0 and weighs less than Kurt busch's head. |

"She's hot out of the pit." "She's spraying fluid out the back end." "Her rear end is loose." "She's getting a complete rubber change." "They're giving her a full turn of wedge." "She's deep in tight." "She's on Gordon's rear, sucking in hard." "She's coming out flat in the straight." "She got a great jump on Johnson." "She's tight in the curves." "She needs to break out to get some clean air." Better?
