molto veloce mama 9311 | Subject: RE: Crummy Winter Weather Challenge Week two (Nov 19-25) oooh! i forgot the bike multiplier for yesterday!!! i was out for 5 hours today - riding for 4:30. rode down to the trail head, waited 15 for other riders. 15 minute rest at the turn around. how should i break it down? 9am - 45, winds 8mph; 10am - 48, winds 11mph; 11am - 50, 13mph; 12noon - 54, 11mph; 1pm - 54, 9mph no temp points, but wind!!! that's something. so, 30 + 60 + 60 + 60 + 30. should i take off 15 for the time i wasn't riding, or just count the whole time i was gone, including rest stops?. so, nov 24th: 240 (or 225) with the extra bike point, should have been: 60 + 120 + 120 + 120 + 60 = 480 i feel like i'm cheating, since the temps were okay, just windy at times. i have wind burn on my cheeks and it took a while for my toes to thaw, so maybe i shouldn't feel so guilty? so, i now have 1112.5. no run today. some spinning in the basement to warm up for weights. will run tomorrow. |

Veteran 216 Calgary, Alberta | Subject: RE: Crummy Winter Weather Challenge Week two (Nov 19-25) Shoot... it's been freezing cold here this week, and while I haven't been able to make it out for an official run per se, I've been working outside since Tuesday, doing field work. Part of it involves working with groundwater, and trust me, when it's -4 outside plus a windchill, wearing plastic gloves to avoid contamination is not my idea of a good time. Currently it's -18 with the windchill... I don't know if I can work up the courage (or find enough clothes) to go for a run... Just call me Alaska. |

Currently it's -18 with the windchill... I don't know if I can work up the courage (or find enough clothes) to go for a run... Just call me Alaska. Alright, I mustered up the courage to go for a run and guess what, it was TOTALLY worth it. Aside from the chilly legs, my upper body was ROASTING. Temp (F) = -5.8 Wind (mph) = 5.6 Precip - light snow I ran for 32 mins. Total of... 32 * 10 = 320!!!!! I love this!! Whooppee, I might have a shot at this after the lack of being able to run this week. I'm going to try to attach a picture that I took when I finished the run. it was a fiasco trying to get someone to take my picture. they didn't realize the importance of catching me with the icicles on my eyes. I just wear my regular runners, nothing fancy for the cold weather. I've never really thought about that. Might have to check out MEC (Mountain Equipment Co-Op) and see about getting something a little warmer. My toes weren't cold, it was just my legs today. |

Veteran 238 Raleigh, NC | Subject: RE: Crummy Winter Weather Challenge Week two (Nov 19-25) Dang....Rooneye...Great workout. I think i'm going to have to do some traveling this winter to even catch half the points you are. Hmm...or maybe I can just find a warehouse freezer somewhere to workout. No crummy weather workouts this weekend....65 and 70 degrees and sunny Ahhh! Of course just as I jump on the train...the weather doesn't want to cooperate. |

Alaska | Subject: RE: Crummy Winter Weather Challenge Week two (Nov 19-25) Great picture rooneye! I understand trying to get your picture before you defrost! I did get my daughter to get a picture on Thursday, I'll try to get it posted this evening. I'm not quite as frozen as you are! I believe you win the crummy weather award this week. I've been wimping out (it's too cold) and running inside. Here's my weekly crummy weather workouts.

Veteran 216 Calgary, Alberta | Subject: RE: Crummy Winter Weather Challenge Week two (Nov 19-25) Sheista!!! It's currently -13 (F) outside, and with the windchill it is a balmy -38.2 (almost the same in celsius, -39). No way am I going to subject myself to that. I do have limits, and I think this is about it. http://www.theweathernetwork.com/features/camweather/displaycamsCAN... Currently what it looks like around the city here. Stay warm people! |

Total = 422.50. I think these were the only two days all week that would have qualified for suckitude points. We're really off to a slow start for the crummy weather here in the midwest. I'm sure we'll make up for it down the line.

Sorry to be a pain, but I'm back to being confused again. I thought you had to be a minimum of 40 and under on the bike and 35 and under on the run to qualify for any points at all regardless of wind and/or precipitation. I'm not trying to single out TriDDS, just trying to clarify what I should and shouldn't report for workouts. |

Not a prob at all. 50 was declared the hard cap on week one cuz biking sub 50 has an element of suckage. You get no points for a run based on temp at that level, only wind or rain. |

It was decided that <50 was eligible for wind/precip and bike multiplier points, just no temperature points until it's 35. Some windy, wet 42 degree runs suck more than a dry 30-degree one, so we wanted to account for that. If you use my spreadsheet it is now accurately accounting for all of these rules. |

Master 1732 Delafield, Wisconsin | Subject: RE: Crummy Winter Weather Challenge Week two (Nov 19-25) Ok I'm finally on the board. Last week was the first I was able to run and the weather turns out to be great! That sucks (ok not really). This was from last Sunday, my first run in 6 weeks (due to injury) time: 27min + .5 for temp (32) + 2 for wind (12mph)= 67.5. ( I have to admit though, I enjoyed just being out there, it didn't suck at all) |
