Champion 11641 Fairport, NY | Subject: RE: Custom Training Plan Creator Update: More Plans! Workout Details! cathyd - 2010-11-01 3:33 PM Why does a maintenance plan always have a taper? If I want to 4 week blocks of focus on a 3 build/1 schedule why does it always give me 2 weeks of taper, even when I say it's maintenance and not a race plan? This should be all set. |

Champion 9430 No excuses! | Subject: RE: Custom Training Plan Creator Update: More Plans! Workout Details! Just a generic question, so I did another IM plan playing around with it. And for IM CDA next June in a 21 week plan it only had the longest run at 12 mi or 1:30 min. Now biking had 100+ milers starting about 5 weeks in. So my question, does it favor bike mileage over run mileage? I had my long runs on Sundays and most were in the 9-11 mi range. |

Veteran 107 Grand Rapids | Subject: RE: Custom Training Plan Creator Update: More Plans! Workout Details! HI! I'm having a problem viewing my training plan or any "planned" workouts. When I go to the calendar view and click on the planned link there is nothing there and it says that I'm viewing my actual calendar. I know that I have a plan in there somewhere but can't seem to be able to view it. Sorry, this is probably confusing, but any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Kat |

I am able to view each month, etc, but I figured when I gave my plan a name it would be listed somewhere I could access it? |

I was experimenting with a HIM plan and it gave me several long bike rides of over 100 miles in the weeks leading up to race day. Two weeks before the race, the long ride is 145 miles! This seems really excessive for a half. Edited by tikicult 2010-11-24 10:10 PM |

Veteran 139 Surrey, BC | Subject: RE: Custom Training Plan Creator Update: More Plans! Workout Details! This doesn't seem right to me. Here are my inputs: Calendar Information Start Date: 12/13/2010 Race Date: 4/17/2011 Plan length: 18 weeks Recovery week 4 weeks Target Distances Swim: 765 Bike: 12 Run: 3.1 new swimmer: yes Current Paces Swim: 02m / 100 yards Bike: 16 mph Run: 07m 41s / Mile Workouts Per Week Swim: 3 Bike: 2 Run: 2 Week 1 totals: S: 2400 Yd - 46m w/long swim at 1000 yd B: 9.4 Mi - 46m R: 6 Mi - 1h 01m Week 17 totals (1 week prior to sprint tri): S: 3750 Yd - 1h 13m w/ long swim at 1550 yd B: 25.7 Mi - 2h 08m R: 16.4 Mi - 2h 48m Now as I am a new swimmer, why is my first long swim (week 1) 1000 yd, 235 yd more than my race day distance, which is 18 weeks away? And does it make sense to have my week 17 swim total almost 5 times the race distance, with the race in 1 week? |

Champion 13323 | Subject: RE: Custom Training Plan Creator Update: More Plans! Workout Details! It's correct. Don't look at the total weekly distance. We 'work back' from peak weak as one of the rules is 10% increase in volume per week for a safe, consistent build...so for an 18 week plan, 600/800/1000 is the first week of swims. If you did the full 28 week plan, it allows for more build as the first week is 450/600/750 - which is exactly in line with the first week of the beginner swim series...plus if we make the swims any shorter, you would be in the pool for 10 minutes.. We also heavily value swim overdistance training especially for sprints. So your long swim may very well be 2x your race distance during peak week. I feel this is very important and draws upon many 'first tri' experiences on BT...myself included. ONE CHANGE YOU CAN DO...change your swim to 500, recalculate the plan. You won't get as much overdistance, but the first week is then 400/550/650 and peak swim is 950...a few hundred yards over your race swim. Let me know what you think. |
