Caleb Carr - The Alienst.  That book rules.  In fact Caleb Carr rules.  Great historical fiction.  Crime drama in turn of the century New York.

I've also liked 'The Shadow of the Wind' recently.

courtney_leone - 2005-12-09 12:39 PMWhat am I looking for? Anything really. I love anything scary, but I'm a huge fan of historical fiction. And fact I'll read anything. I'm trying to get through 'The Agony and The Ecstasy' but its kind of hard to get into. I just finished 'Pillars of the Earth,' which was a great book.

"Haunted" by Chuck Palahniuk. It's gross, explicit, bizarre, all round entertainment.

I'm listening to the audiobook as we speak...liking it very much. And also reading the new Brett Easton Ellis, "Lunar Park."

If you stayed in Louisiana to go to school, you could read and wouldn't need audiobooks. Then you could listen to music and learn which Beatle wrote which song.

uhh, kidding Laughing

Now that I take transit to work, I have a lot of time to read. I am currently reading Bill Bryson – A Short History of Nearly Everything. I am also about halfway through James Cavell’s Gaijin, a very good historical fiction book. I’ve heard that Shogun is good too, though I’ve never read it. Laura just lent some of Dan Brown’s books to me, but I haven’t had a chance to read them yet. She also leant me The Curious Incident of the Dog At Nightime (or something like that). Sorry I can’t remember the author. The book was funny and very light hearted and quite simple to read if you ever want something short. I also just finished Mansfield Park though this is definitely not one of Jane Austen’s bests and John Irving’s A Prayer for Owen Meany. That was quite good.

For good adultish humor i enjoyed Skipping Towards Gammorah by Dan Savage.. he attempts to commit and intereviews people who do commit all 7 deadly sins.. i lauged my head off..

When I first read that I was thinking the commandments, and I wondered how he got away with writing about doing some of those things without going to jail... but then I realized I'm an idiot.

Gluttony is my favorite... lust is up there to.

Aaaaahhh...so you only got t third of the way through? So you know Ms. Rice makes you pay your dues, right? She's gotta set the scene before she rewards you with the scary and the homoerotic overtones.

Ok, I didn't read all of the thread so this might have already been mentioned. "Many-body quantum theory in condensed matter physics : an introduction" by Henrik Bruus is the best book I've read in many years, Green's Functions are the coolest thing in Physics.

Yes, I know I'm a geek, but only part time.
