I just got this from the website.

SWIM COURSE - (0.50 miles / 750 meters) One loop 750 meter swim in Tempe Town Lake (north side!!)

BIKE COURSE (10mi / 17.7k) The bike course is 10+ Miles.  The course is a 3.65mi loop through Papago Park (3 loops). The course requires a proper mountain bike or cross-bike. The bike trails can be narrow in some areas and wide enough for vehicles in other. It is composed of packed Arizona dirt and some sand. This course is perfect for the beginner off road rider and still challenging enough for the seasoned veteran.

RUN COURSE - (5k / 3.1mi) Mix of trail and sidewalk run.  Plenty of hills, some single track, packed dirt and some rocks to hop over/on and around!! Aid stations will be stocked with water, Gatorade and Powerbar product!

How are they doing 3 loops and its still 10 miles? WOW...that'll be congested! I bet they are taking the big climb out!

Is there a map? Let me guess...NO!

I wouldnt trust it being wetsuit legal this year. With all of the changes that they make, hell we might be able to wear flippers and floaties....

Yeah three laps is alot of mtn for a sprint swim/run. That sounds more like an xterra course than a fun "starter" off road tri. from 10 to 15 WOW!

Hopefully the shirt will be better...

That shirt better rock. I just started to learn the bike path and now it is changed. And I got the map of there web site. And three laps is going to be messy with me in the back and all the skinny fast kids in the front trying to lap me. I take up the whole lane when I ride. But I still want to do it. But like I said that shirt better rock.

yeah but as the map states if we do three laps (according to the map) we will be doing fifteen. I bet we wont be going through the underpass until the last lap... Three laps in the upper portion would be about ten miles, either way it should be an interesting development as it gets closer

The map says each lap is 3.65 miles... so that's 10.95 total, so it's more than 10, but not quite 15.

I might go check it out this weekend... though probably via a trail run, as I'm guessing it's going to be pretty muddy.

Mud I love Mud. Maybe I will run that tonight. I want to learn the course but if they keep changing it I don't know if I can.

AHHH HA HA HA! They changed it EVERY week up until the night before the race last year! Part of the charm? I don't know!

I ran parts of the course on Friday (most of the trails south of Curry) and it was definitely rideable, even on a cross bike... though I did get disoriented a bit and ended up running on some stuff that would be dicey to ride up/down (stair-stepped rocks and some really loose hairy stuff), at least for me on a hardtail.

That tunnel under Curry Road scares me. It's dark and full of horse poop.

I have a cross bike and a hardtail. Maybe I will just bring both since they seem to change the course every other day. I actually used to do that for cyclocross races (when you're racing C's who cares if you're using a regulation bike or not!).

MMMM horse poop is right. Lots of it everywhere out there. and the tunnel is kinda creepy for snakes. Bu the tunnel at the dreamy draw is worse. I ride a hard tail now for everything. I did competative down hill in Europe and had a full suspension but I have not found anything here that really needed it.

So I now own a mtn bike (no clue how that happened) and have actually ridden down here on some easy trails at Sweetwater.  My darling husband assures me that with some practice I can do Papago.  So should I become delusional enough to sign up for the PBR and forgo the Tinfoilman here, does the swim require a wetsuit?

OOOH HOW exciting!

Wetsuit is probably optional that time of year. I would do the race - its fun. Will it be your first tri though?

Negative, my first was Rocky Point this year.  Gonna do either this or Tinfoilman and then the Desert Grande 2 weeks later and then el Tour about 2 weeks after that, THEN the tucson half marathon about 2 weeks after that.  Man, by xmas I'm going to want a vacation!  Way to come back after surgery I guess.

Rigid, hard or full.... I think the preference is up to the rider. I have seen rigid bikes on La Milagrosa, one of the hardest trails in the state, down here in Tucson. I rode a hard tail for about 2 years before getting a full suspension also.

This is a great race, although the papago park route is lacking in technical single track. Last year when I did it, the Fat Tire started a few hours next door, so it was PBR after the race and New Belgium Beers after that! Oh yeah, I vaguely remember some people b!tching about the run from the swim to the run, so they let us put our shoes near the dock.
