Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I just wanted to let you all know that in Fat Rabbit's June newsletter, they said they were soon to be selling out of this race. If you want to do this race and haven't registered, please go ahead and do that so you don't miss out. |

New user![]() ![]() | ![]() Thank you so much! Your video was great and definitely helps ease the nerves...for now at least ![]() There is a tri at Alum Creek this coming Sunday and I was thinking about going just so I can get familiar with what all happens on race day and see exactly where everything is located. I only live a few miles from there, so we'll see. I'm also going to get up there to an open water swim too. I'm sure I'll have more questions as the day gets closer, so you'll probably see more of me here. Thanks again! |

Yes, and there will probably be lots of first-timers who'll be doing this as their first, too. Glad you liked the video. It truly was a special day. I think that's a great idea of going to that tri to get a better picture of how things go. Feel free to ask away. I love talking about this stuff! ![]() |

![]() | ![]() Ran the course today- the 'trail' part was sort of wet- some outstanding mud puddles. Water was warm and clear- almost no waves today. I'm planning on a bike/swim/bike workout tomorrow- should be at the park @ 8:45am if anyone else wants to come along on a swim. |

You're exactly right about the trail. I had to stop many times to walk around those puddles during the race. How was the water temperature? I won't have a wetsuit and I'm now getting nervous about freezing! |

New user![]() ![]() | ![]() I'm heading out for a swim sometime this evening if my hubby gets home in time to watch the kids. Hopefully it's warmed up since the weather's been nicer. Where exactly does the run portion go from the beach? |
|
![]() ![]() |
![]() | ![]() The trail isn't really marked very well- I just run from the beach up the parking lot, past the small bathrooms (north beach, not the big shower houses). If you look to your right almost as you are exiting the parking lot you will see a mowed trail. Follow that (stay on the RIGHT fork in the woods) until you reach the access rd. Follow that making left turns until you are back at the park entrance. I have it marked as a route on my blog. Lora, I'm not sure what the temp was but I thought the water was warmer than the air this past friday. I am also part killer whale and have an extra fatty protective layer ![]() I'll be out of town starting Wed but if anyone wants to meet up and s/b/r next week I'm game. |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Thanks for the insight, Kate. Unfortunately, I don't have a wetsuit yet so I'm really, really gonna have to tough it out. It will just be what it will be, and I'll just have to deal. Such is the world of imperfect circumstances. But if your friend said it was manageable, I do feel a little uplifted. Thanks again, Kate. |

![]() | ![]() No problems! H2OLupa and I are going out to Alum Creek @ 8am Tues am. I'll report back the water temp! Any one know- is this a shore swim or around the floaties swim? |

I tried running through them. Too deep. I then tried jumping over them. Too long. What's a girl to do? ![]() Thanks for the info, Brue. Now, how did you feel about the pool temp at Miami? I thought that was cold. |

Much easier to figure out than the Deer Creek course. |

![]() ![]() |
![]() | ![]() I thought the water on today's swim was slightly warmer than the Miami pool. My muscles were kept cool but my toes did not go numb with cold. Brue there is no way I'm running through those mud puddles- no way i'm going to risk twisting an ankle or knee! |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Coaching member | ![]() Does anyone know if the intersection at Lewis Center and Old State is passable now? I am planning to do the course on Friday and wondering if this intersection is still closed. Also, I will be going with two ladies for whom this is their first tri. They are not on BT (yet). We are thinking about starting at 7am or 8am. If anyone else has the day off, please come join us! We'll be swimming the swim course, biking the bike course and running the run course, and practicing transitions. Please send me a private message in case I forget to check this thread again. I am not doing Tri for the Cure, but I'm doing the International the next day. |

New user![]() | ![]() Thanks to everyone for their posts. I just found BT and am doing the Komen Tri next week. It will be my first time and I am very excited/scared to death. Is is best to arrive right at 5:00am or later? Are there areas of Transition set up for beginners so we don't get in the way as we fumble? Will it all be clear to me when i get there? Thanks for any help you all can give. Sarah |

![]() | ![]() I rode the course on Monday. The road is paved and smooth- you can get through on a bike. The road is still closed to car traffic though. Don't know what race day will bring. |

Welcome to BT! I just sent you a PM, but given that this is your first, I would be there between 5 and 5:30. Last year they assigned Transition spots according to your race number. We're all equal on race day, so no separate section for beginners. Last year the volunteers were very helpful, but I think you'll be surprised at how easy it'll be to navigate your way through set-up. I love this video about setting up your Transition area, and I would highly recommend checking it out. Some of it is a little more advanced stuff, but there is a lot of great advice in general. http://www.beginnertriathlete.com/cms/article-detail.asp?articleid=1488 Let us know if you have anymore questions! - Lora |

It'll be what it will be. Anyway, how did it go, Alice? Do your friends feel more at ease heading into the race now? Oh, and, how was the water? ![]() |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Coaching member | ![]() Sadly, the thunderstorms came through just as we were planning to be there. The weather radar showed more of the same until 5p.m., so we called it off. Well, now it's been gorgeous all day since 9am, so that's very annoying because it's too late and too many people to just jump up and go back up there. We are rescheduled for Sunday a.m. I'll update on the time once we lock it down on Saturday, so people can join in if they wish. Probably we'll do it around 7am or so. Anyway, one of the ladies can do 6 laps in the pool without stopping, at her best, so I really hope she can come Sunday and get that fear of open water swimming out of her system before the race! I also want to walk them through the transition area, even though it's not set up, just showing the what to expect. Should be fun! I met the one lady through a colleague, and we chatted a lot on Facebook. She has invited two of her friends. One is a marathoner who can't swim much, another a swimmer who isn't a great runner, and I'm not sure on the third. -Alice |
