gr33n - 2013-01-30 9:29 AM MJNA is for sure an all or nothing play. It either goes up x10 to x100 or to 0. Like any bet its one of those either ors. I wouldn't bet more than I'd feel comfortable with if it went to 0. Persoanlly I like a super high spec component as a very small percentage of the overall, but understandably thats not a one size fits all thing.

this is the best tip I have had in a long time.  I bought 3000 shares last week and they have almost doubled as of today.  I still think this stock has more gains in it.  Thanks!

Looks like a pump and dump to me. Down over 30% today.

JoshR - 2013-02-05 4:37 PM Gr33n, you live in Spain I see, what do you make of the current political fiasco that is unfolding?

Spain is a mess both economically and politically. The current 26% unemployment rate, 50% youth unemployment rate, negative growth, and the multitude of other problems aside, I think the current scandal alleging the party in power was on the take is mostly noise. I say mostly because  pretty much all politicians as well as businesses are on the take in one form or another here. Thats just how it works. That said the party thats making these allegations are very politically motivated to pull out whatever smear tactic they can to discredit the jokers that are in office. Politics are dirty. Some things are universal.

On another note will have a look at what happened with MJNA when I'm back in the office tomorrow.

yep. And I know that about stocks trading on the pink sheets...highly volatile. I sold half my shares early this morning when it hit red.  I'm holding the other half.  Seems to be support around 32.  Hope I don't regret not selling everything.

Yep volatility. Very typical of PK shares. Looking at the up volume of the 2 big up days still more than the volume of the down day. These type of highly speculative plays aren't for eveyone, and should not be entered into with more than one can afford to lose in its entirety. That said I still like the company and will hold.

I'm actually very interested to see if the old adage "As goes January, so goes the year." holds up this year.  I has the last 20 times or so.  Broad index anyone?

I can't see it holding. Fed guys talking tapering or accelerating QE exit. US retail investors put another $4 bio into mutual funds last week, for the 5th consecutive week. Its now the strongest 5 week run since April 2000. Hmm... Zero Hedge had a good piece today on the parallels between 2012-2013 and 1993-1994 titled remembering 1994. Do note the overlay chart. Double hmmmm... Current mkt is way over ripe imo.

I like silver too. It needs to hold $30 but if it does its got $42-$44 potential.

Penny stock fans and aficionados of the all or nothing bets have a look at MZEI. Currently around 0.08.

S&P makes fresh 5 yr highs along with advance declines. GOOG CEO sells half his shares into new all time highs for the stock. Still thinking we are very close to a top here. Lots of Fed guys speaking later this week. If they start to hint at backing away from QE, it should be enough to turn markets.

Bonds- Not sure if anyone holds a lot of bonds but if you bought any over the last few years they've done pretty well. The tricky part is if you sell them how do you replace the yield. Basically you don't. Not at today's rates anyhow. To hold the bonds and protect the principal consider buying TBT. Its an etf that does whatever long end rates do. Long end rates rise -> TBT price rises. If you reckon Fed withdrawal takes the buyer of first and last resort partially out of the market and 10 yr rates adjust to say 2.50 it makes a fine spec play as well. Closed yest at 67.37. Worth picking up below 65.

Been short Best Buy for a while now but playing it through leap puts.  My original thinking was how the heck would Shultze get funding to buy a company getting battered by Amazon.  Recently, I caught some rhetoric from Microsoft that re-assured my position.  Xbox is planning release of the new consol with downloadable game content.  I did some digging and found 14% of Best buys revenues are from video games.  Microsoft cuts out the middle man and thats another hit to Best Buy.  I think that kills the deal.

gr33n - 2013-02-12 2:18 PM Mela Sciences (MELA) IPO's today. Watch it.

A bit more background on this company.

MELA Sciences, Inc. is a medical device company focused on the commercialization of its product, MelaFind, and the further design and development of MelaFind and its technology. MelaFind is a non-invasive, point-of-care (in the doctor?s office) instrument to aid in the detection of melanoma. MelaFind, features a hand-held component that emits light of multiple wavelengths to capture digital data from clinically atypical pigmented skin lesions. The data are then analyzed utilizing classification algorithms, trained on its database of melanomas and benign lesions, to provide information to assist in the management of the patient?s disease, including information useful in the decision of whether to biopsy the lesion. (From their annual report)

Co had their IPO yesterday at $1.30 It opened at 1.60, traded down to 1.42, and closed at 1.55. It was a very small issue which to me means they want the co to stay closely held, ie they strongly believe in themselves. I know doctors are super positive on the product. I think its worth owning as close to 1.30 as possible. I don't own it yet but would if it comes a little cheaper.

I don't know what it did last night in after hours trading...but it's up this morning and the rest of the markets are down.

I've been waiting for a correction for over a year now...I kind of wonder if this bull has FINALLY run it's course?

I think there is some major short covering going on with BBY.  It was down 10% over night when news hit.  I still think this plays out and moves much lower.  Options markets got it right.  Puts are indicated higher.

Next up!  I've been long oil stocks.  While that's been paying off for me and I'm unwinding those, I shorted INTC to protect against a drop in the broader mkt.  After seeing NVDA's miss this morning and looking at the charts on the broader market I'm going to leave the INTC short on even though it was originally meant as protection.  Hopefully, the PC market continues to tank and it would work out even better if we finally do get the correction in the broader market.

What happened on BBY yesterday- It had like a $2 range in the last 10 minutes. Fat finger ? Odd...

I kind of like energy plays higher. I have none though. I'd prefer a direct exposure to energy prices rather than through shares. Watching the ETFs.

Otherwise waiting for the marklet to roll over. Long SDS is my biggest position which is not going great so far.
