Last year there were around 425-450.  I would think somewhere around the same.

Does anyone know how to change the submitted race time? I emailed the address on the contact information through their site, but have not heard anything. I accidentally turned in my 300yd time, and NOT 300M time when I registered online. I would like to say that I will improve up to that time, but that won't be happening in the next 7 weeks- it is a 30 seconds difference.

Bonny, I wouldn't worry about it too much.  People put in such random times, that pool swims end up kind of chaotic anyway.  You'll probably still have slower people in front of you.

Mike,  shaving is a personal preference.  Shaving is not to make you faster.  The biggest reason people shave is in case of crashing.  It makes cleaning up the wound much easier and massages are easier on shaved areas as well.  Just do what you feel comfortable with.

Does anyone know if there is a pasta dinner this year?  The race/registration site didn't mention it and so I was curious.  If not, should we plan a BT dinner at a restaurant somewhere the night before?

If they don't have a dinner I think we ABSOLUTELY need to plan a dinner somewhere...I'm ready for my first BT get together!  I'm putting in my paperwork to get a 3-day weekend that weekend so hopefully I can leave Fri. morning to drive over (3 hours or so), if not I will be leaving by noonish I'm sure...absolutely want to have plenty of time before my first tri...

Definitely shave. It may not make you faster, but people will at least think you are faster.

We'd be up for a BT get together Friday night. There are a couple of pizza places in Athens, not sure about "pasta" places though.

They fixed the reg problem. They told me to sign up as an individual and they would switch me over to clyde at the packet pickup.

There is a Roma Italitan Restaurant in Athens.  I think this is the place I ate at on my way to a brevet a couple of years ago.  They had decent food.  However, seemed like kind of a smaller place and may not take reservations.  I'd be willing to check on it though when the time gets closer and we are sure that there won't be a pasta dinner the night before the race.

A dinner somewhere sounds great! If anything, it will keep me from making my typical mistake of driving the bike course in the dark to "check it out", and letting that freak me out. (Can you tell I'm new to tris, ha ha)

Nothing scary about the bike course. It's on the loop around the city. The only hills are overpasses.

Had a good swim this A.M. Is the pool in Athens a 25 yd or 25m pool?

Agreed.  There's only one hill I even remember worthy of noting, and that is the hill at the turnaround.

What are the rules about passing during the swim? (I don't think I'll be passing anyone, I'm just wondering.) Must you pass one person at a time, and only at certain points in the pool?

I really think it's pass at your own risk.  You'll have swimmers coming at you head on during the middle lanes, so you have to keep that in mind.  It always is courteous to draft to the wall while tapping their toe.  By doing this, they should realize that you are faster and let you by at the wall.  Of course, this doesn't always happen.

I have gone three-wide before.  Not very smart, but it was exciting!

I passed someone last year either at the St. Patricks Tri or IceMan and it was 3 wide when I passed. Definitely exciting. Luckily I have skinny shoulders and am small or it might not have worked. Those were in a 50m pool and we just left the wall 5 or 7m ago, I wasn't waiting till the wall.

Passing in a pool swim, especially one like Athens with 2 way lanes, is at your own risk. Best place to do it is at the wall. Otherwise, take a quick peek to make sure someone isn't coming at you and GO. I usually seed myself with a higher time than I will swim on my own. Then I'll swim like a madman the first 50-100 to catch the person in front of me and try to draft their feet.

Sunny and warm.

Ah, but it's TX...it snowed on Easter in central TX...there is no predicting the weather for this one save a couple of days out! Sunny and warm would be awesome though!
