I can't figure out why anyone would want to be President lately. But I suppose we should keep politics out of this

It's snowing here today and I am at work, I work outside. 'nuff said.

Stay warm! Brrrr.

Happy Sunday morning fellow gingerbread nuggets???  I found us!  I think we've got a good crew ~ does anyone know yet if we are just posting our runs to our training logs or if there is a spreadsheet like last month?

I've added a "Track your progress" box to all of the spreadsheets! You do NOT need to do anything. It will update automatically. (In other words, do not update it!)

It takes "today's date" from the computer, and calculates the percentage of the month that has passed so far. This will help you see if you're on track towards hitting your goal.

For example, today is Feb 3rd. So the month is 10% completed. All of this shows up in the "peach colored box" on your team spreadsheet.

Hello everyone, fresh addition to the team here...

My name is Nathalie.

My training goal has been set for 8 hours.

My short term race goal is the Mississauga half-mary on May 11, the longer one is the Muskoka 70.3 Ironman in September, and a few other races in between.

A cross of lovey and butt kicking messages is fine with me.

I wish everyone all the best in reaching their goal this month!

I'm sorry to have to do this, but I'm going to have to remove myself from the February Challenge.  I thought perhaps I could keep things going this month, but I've got too many things to deal with at the moment and I'm having a hard time with my running.  Rather than fall way behind and disappoint the team, it's probably better that I hold off on doing another challenge for a while.

Hi Max,

I definitely understand the need to "reduce stress." My own work situation is so crazy that I even thought about asking if anyone else was willing to organize the Feb Challenge this month. But so many people are participating that I keep slogging through all the work anyway. (That said, I think we're in pretty good shape now. It's mainly the week before the challenge starts and the first few days that are crazy.)

Do what you need to do - in order to keep your sanity. (I can't say that for myself. I lost my sanity long ago. LOL)

We'll miss you! So stop by to say hello when things calm down! (We'll appoint you Team Cheerleader or something. LOL)

I am Amy, but abud is also fine.

Goal 40 miles.

I have 5k trail run Sunday(this am). A sprint in March...and so on.

I love daily inspires. It makes my day when I log on and see them there. I am, however, bad at sending them to everyone. I have two small kiddos that need some attention.

Hello Everyone!  I'm saying hi!

Name: Pam

Goal: 35 miles

How to keep me going?  Well this is difficult, messages are really nice, reminding me to keep up my end of the bargain is also good, yelling at me without being too abusive is also good

Why I am doing this?  Well, I really hate to run, it is my least favorite sport of the three and of course just has to be at the end of the tri.  I need to just do it so I can keep doing this sport I love...maybe I will love it again.

What do I do besides tri?  Well I am a full time student, a senior at the U of M studying child psychology.  I train, go to class, do homework, go to work, do more homework, work at the lab, and maybe get to sleep.  Life is busy.

But I got in a good run today... 3.68 miles   Roommate stress made me run strong and fast today and it felt really good!  Let's keep up the good work everyone...I don't want to be a loser two months in a row!!!!

Hi all,

Name: Gill

What's your goal? 4 hours - that's every running session in my plan for February. I know it doesn't sound like a lot but I'm returning to training since having a baby and I'm still building up my running. (Not quite sure how long I can use this excuse, because I've definitely built up my swimming and have made good progress on my biking thanks to the last two challenges.)

Are you training for any specific race yet? Yup: two. The Eton Super Sprint in May and the Windsor Sprint in June. As you can probably guess from the locations of my races, I'm a Brit.

And, most importantly, are you more inspired by lovey messages or would a good kick in the pants suit you better? 65% Lovey 35% butt-kick (what can I say, it's February and the weather over here sucks!!!)

At the moment I'm in commiseration mood because I've got a throat infection / cold. I lost almost all my voice yesterday and was not a happy bunny at all. I probably won't manage my run tomorrow but I'll make it up as it's my short run. Like Judi, I am super-competitive, but my challenge is going to be the last week of February when I'm away on business. I'll need the butt-kicking in full measure then.

Hi everyone.   My name is Dan.   My goal is 100 kilometers of walking/running.   I have not run in about 2 years due to problems with my knees, but have done quite a few races in previous years including one marathon (Honolulu 2001).     I am going to try to keep up my daily walking and gradually increase the number of running strides I throw in.   I did 100 strides yesterday and figure that if I can bump it 100 a day, I will make good progress.    If my knees start to hurt, I will resort to walking.   I am assuming I will have some problems and will have some down days.

I just finished reading Chi Running and am going to try out some of those techniques.

I am not training for any specific race yet.  That all depends on how my running progresses.

Inspires and just reading what the rest of the team is doing help keep me going.

 Happy trails...

Dan

Hey fellow Gingerbreaders! My name is Melissa and my goal for the challenge is 35 miles. I'm off to a good start because I did a 5k this morning. To say the conditions were less than favorable would be an understatement. It was 47 degrees with 13-15 mph winds and stinging rain. I ended up walking virtually all of the course. I finished in 57:45 which was slower than my last 5k, but I was just thrilled to finish in less than an hour given the conditions.

The course was basically an out and back, but the start and finish lines were staggered, so the back part of the course after the turn was longer than the out. Naturally, it was the back part of the course that had us going headlong into the wind and rain. I was doing pretty good on the out part of the course and was averaging just over a 17 minute mile pace, but lost all kinds of time after the turn.

I was walking with a local friend of mine. She just turned 55 years old a couple of weeks ago and this was her first race ever after having just started walking and exercising recently. I was amazed when she said after crossing the finish line that she couldn't wait to do another one. If that had been my first race ever, I'm not sure I would've been saying the same thing. LOL

Thanks for the inspires and PM's that I've gotten about the death of my brother-in-law. I spoke with my Mom last night and my sister is doing as well as can be expected given the circumstances. Everyone is trying to keep her stress levels down as much as possible to hopefully prevent any flare-ups with her MS. I'll be going out to see her next weekend.

Got another longer run in today, I hoped the loop would map out around 8-9 miles, it was 7.58 or some crazy thing like that.  I won't complain, it's absolutely gorgeous here in the Richmond area and totally perfect to RUN (sorry all you folks fighting the snow, ice and plow slop)

Nice running, Judi!

I got in a 10-miler myself yesterday...my long distance so far (I've done it a couple of times). But the weather was amazing yesterday too (and looks to be getting even better as the week goes on) - I just wish I had another run on the schedule.

Nice job on the 5K, Melissa - and isn't it fun to get someone into racing? I love going with people to their first race - they have so much energy and fear and excitement and everything else that it makes me feel good...and they usually have such a good time.

(I did a tri with a friend - it was her first and she HATES running. So we do the swim basically together, leave out on the bike - her a little after me because I was a transition whiz at the time (didn't change shoes!), and then I was waiting and waiting and waiting for her to finish. I never saw her finish. Finally, things were clearing out and so I went to get my stuff in my car and she pops out of the ambulance in the parking lot. OMG - I figure - she ended up getting hurt - she's gonna HATE me. She broke her foot exiting the pool right behind me, and still did the bike and run (and went immediately from the finish line to the med tent and was carried to the ambulance). Her foot was like 2x the size and black-purple and she jumped out of the ambulance to thank me for talking her into the race...Weird, huh?)

It's Monday and I am back...in case anyone was looking for meWink.  I have to do another type of running on the weekend as I have three children to run around (check out my log to see the updates of the weekend), and so I am rarely online on the weekend.  I ran today according to my plan, 2.5 miles.  I am rehabbing from an injury so my mileage is low and only every other day as I try to build my base again.

Enders, I added my miles on the spreadsheet from the team captains thread. I usually cannot make changes, so I am not sure if the numbers are really there. When you get a chance can you check it out? Thanks.

I have a 14, 12, & 7 yo....it becomes a different kind of hard...you don't have to carry them, they can move fast when "motivated" too, and their temper tantrums are rare, but it becomes a challenge in how to get one to this side of town, when the other one has to be on the other side of town at the same time.  And you are no longer a stay at home mom cuz you are always in the car!

My girls are 12 and 13--almost in real puberty and the tears fly all the time from the older one (younger one just acts out).  Teenage drama and angst to no end...Their need for parents is definitely different from when they were babies/toddlres but it's still there.  I find it harder now because there are times I have to really discern if this is where I need to intervene or let them learn a hard lesson...
