Evening, Skinnies!

I am back from the beach, but am NOT going to step on the scale until Wednesday...as I am sure it will make me cry.

On the other hand, the vacation was fantastic!!! Lots of good time with the family, made some good work connections, and had a great time at the beach/pool.

Thanks for the love peeps. They changed it into a duathlon (2.1 mi run, 56 mi bike, 13.1 mi run) because of rough conditions on Lake michigan.

I had a rough day out there.Woke up on little sleep two nights in a row and just knew it would be a grind it out type of day. Very sunny and warm and also the bike course ended up a few miles short.

Oh well, I guess now Sailing can go back to trashing me. Wink

I'll give you a day to recuperate then start trashing you.  Not a HIM, but a heck of a DU.  Good job!!

Congrats on a great race Sherm! I'm so sorry the swim was cancelled and the bike was cut short

Can I join again for August? I'd like to lose 4lbs before IMLOU. It's four weeks from today! I weighed 131 last Wednesday and haven't weighed since. Hopefully I'm not heavier

Not a good day. I think I was a little under 5 hours. Just didn't feel good at all for the first half until about half way through the bike then I kinda found my legs.

Could definately tell the extra weight I was dragging around this year compared to last hurt me a ton. Hills are a whole lot tougher with an extra 20 lbs. Frown

Overall it was a good wake up call for the fact that IM Arizona is 16 short weeks away and I need to kick it in.

Its like the Hotel California, you can check in but you can never leave.

Hey keep us posted on IM Lou. I am looking at that one next year. Have you seen any of the course? Looking for some first hand accounts of it.

If this is Hotel California, enders is going to be incredibly disappointed and will quite possibly go into shock as we haven't had wine here since 1969.

Hey there Skinnies. My personal life has taken an interesting turn this week and I just simply don't know how it's going to play out. I'll spare you the details

But regardless of how my personal life is shaking out, I'm still losing weight! I got on the scale yesterday and even though I do realize that it plays tricks on me just for giggles, the number on the scale was 213.5 which I don't think I've weighed since high school. Yes, I said high school...isn't that horrible?

Sailing, can't I just use that number as my official weigh in and pretend that I actually weighed in on Wednesday?

Hope everone has had a good weekend!

So is weigh in day still on Wednesdays, or was our first weigh in on Friday the 1st?

Sherm - I went to Louisville last year to watch friends, and I fell in love with the Ironman - especially the finish chute at 4th Street Live! It's unbelievable!

Since then, I've been back twice. In June I went for a training weekend and rode 80 miles of the bike course (just the hilly parts). In July I did a half-iron race - the swim was in the Ohio River, and much of the bike course was on the IM route. The river turned out to be one of my favorite open water swims - it wasn't the nasty water I was expecting - it was actually quite clean and pleasant! The bike course is absolutely GORGEOUS! I've never seen such beautiful scenery in the midwest. The constant rolling hills are challenging, but fun. And this is coming from a not-so-great cyclist.

I already know that I would love to do IMLou 2009, but I think my wallet needs a break.

Thanks for asking - I'll keep you updated. I'm entering my last big training week and I am beyond exhausted. I can't believe the taper is almost here!

You should come down to watch the race. You will be hooked, I promise! That's as long as the weather is decent

Finally I am back from vacation....weekend in sunny San Diego and Los Angeles.  Good news is that I ran an 8 mile race in San Diego on Saturday and finished about 15 minutes ahead of my goal....I will post a link to the results once they are up.

Wow you are pushing me over the edge. I am deciding between Lou and Wisconsin and from what people are saying I am leaning towards Louisville. It falls on Labor Day weekend and my wife is a teacher so no extra time off needed by her. Close enough to get a weekend training in on the course next summer. Thanks for the info.

Jenni4: I was a soda addict as well. So I understand, but you can overcome. I started out drinking 5-6 soda's a day (64+ oz), then went to 64 oz a week and lots of water, then went to a soda on Sat as a reward. Now if I have a soda once a month I am surprised. Try some flavored water or if it is the caffeine you miss drink black coffee. Good luck and I know you can kick the sugar addiction.

100 cals a day equals less than 1 lb in a month. So your training will have to bump up to cover 24,500 cals. To put that into perspective, It is an extra 245 miles a month running....whew.

Wow, crazy numbers. I actually got to looking and I'll probably try to cut out about 300 Cal a day. I was averaging around 1950, so we'll see if I can get it down to around 1650. I've slowly started the switch to flavored water. Those Propel Fit Powder mixes are really handy and I find they (personally) taste pretty good too. That should help keep the Calories down. Thanks for the info

Not much! Coming back from vacation is always the worst...

Now why can't I find an HIM that gets turned into a du?

Sorry to hear your race didn't go as hoped. Serious bummer.
