Member 137 Olympia, WA | Subject: RE: Lake Stevens 70.3 2009 Hmmm, 72 degree water to me seems positively balmy. :-) Yes, every thing I've read says the water will be around 70 degrees. Wetsuits are allowed and encouraged. I don't know about you, but I hate being chilly so if it's going to be 57 on the ride then definitely will be recommended. I think I'm going to pick up some arm covers just for this race. If you look at the bike map on the website, they have an elevation guide. There aren't many flat spots on it. From what I've heard, the hills aren't killers though. Of course, Florida hills are probably a lot different than Washington hills. Good questions, hope you have a good race! I'll be the 6'4 guy with the blue Cervelo P2 and (unless it's really cold) white IMH bike jersey. Say hi if you see me! Russ |

Looking forward to scoping out the race for next year though! have fun! oh, and I'll be the guy in the Brooks visor and blue sling hanging out. :-) |

I think I'll take it easy to begin with on the bike and see how I do on the hills. If it's slow, I'll just take it easy the whole way and hit the run hard. If it looks like I can maintain a good pace, I'll go for it. The race reports on BT are great, I have learned alot about this race by reading others reports. Thanks |

Some of the hills in the out and back section are steep and easy to hammer on. I find its easier to ride without a speedometer on my bike on the course. Otherwise its so easy to get caught up in stressing about speed and pace. |

Veteran 107 Vancouver, WA | Subject: RE: Lake Stevens 70.3 2009 If you not local and looking to preview the course, I would recommend getting the mapmyride map and then DRIVING the course first before you ride it. I was an out of towner who went up to pre ride the course 2 yrs ago. I had the race map and went out on the bike thinking I knew where to go. I think I missed the first turn and then proceded to ride a 5-6 mile detour before getting back on to the actual course. My only other tip would be to really hydrate on the bike. My quads paid a price on the hills and I ended up cramping on the run by mile 8 or 9.

For me needs to be in mornning or evening. If you get this before riding course be careful the pavement will still be very slick with the descents you will hit aprox. 50mph on wet roads. |
