And, btw, 46.0?!  That's just SICK!  Someone check him for webbed hands and feet.

I started swimming competitively in 1975. Swam through HS and college and came back to the pool to get ready for my first tri in 2005.

Lezak's leg is the best and most astounding sprint performance I have ever witnessed. Got goose bumps watching the video this morning, even though I had already read the results.

Unfortunately, in this day and age, they'll have to check for more than just webbed hands.

I hope that was done cleanly. If so, I just got ten years of new motivation.

I agree.  They have said that the US has subjected it self to additional testing and some athletes are even having blood stored in case test are developed down the line.  Kind of the I know I didn't do anything so do al the testing you want.

Any IMO under 1' is sick.  46 is just not even right.

That was amazing. I was on my feet jumping up and down! Incredibly fast! Totally out of this world.  I loved the look on the French guys face at the end.  Ouch.

I laughed at myself for screaming at the TV. I wonder how many people woke up their neighbors last night.

I knew who won and still screamed at the computer watching it!!!!

At the turn I looked at my wife and said - "It's over - there is no way he is going to catch the French Guy - he is way too good to lose that big of a lead".  When he first started to catch him - bofore the anouncers started screaming - I sat up (we were laying in bed) and as he got closer and closer I started moving towards the TV - almost on top of it - pounding on the mattress at the end.  You would have thought I was going to get a medal.

Similar here- my hubby said we were getting second. Then lezak starts closing in. I was sitting in the lazyboy. Suddenly I'm sitting straight up, feet on the floor. Then I'm standing, then I'm yelling and jumping up and down.

LOL. We were high fiving and congratulating each other like we were on the team.

A few things that struck me after watching it for (I can't count how many) times today:

1.  Cullen Jones had a very smooth hand entry on his leg compared to the French swimmer who looked like he was slapping at the water.

2.  Bedard's (the French closer) lung capacity is amazing.  Watching him trying to catch his breath after the race, it seemed that his chest was expanding by almost double.

3.  The top 5 teams all broke the previous world record.  That's a scenario where you really have to put together a race faster than has ever been done before and STILL end up without a podium spot.

I missed the race but saw it later. Even though I knew the outcome it was still as thrilling to watch and I still got goosebumps. Simply amazing.

You can't make stuff like this up. Its really the stuff that movies are made of (reminded me a little of watching the US beat the Russians in '80 for some reason).

The icing on the cake would have been to see Lezak just turn to the French and say "How do you like me now, chump?" and exit the water.

I have been a religious Olympic swimming fan since I was a little girl. Don't remember Mark Spitz's record breaker (I wasn't born yet) but I'm sure I was there in spirit. And never in my life have I been more excited, more intense, more anxious than I was watching the 4x100 relay. First off, I only cared about Cullen Jones. Phelps is my boy and all but Cullen is my poster child. My friend works with Cullen at USA Swimming to help more minorities get into swimming. Though there have been other blacks in the Olympics Cullen's the first one to get endorsement deals and work with inner city youth to advance the sport among minorities. So this was a historic race for that reason for me. But then when I actually saw the race live. I realized that it wasn't about Cullen or Phelps or any one guy. That freakin' field was fast. I mean it was sick! The Candians beat the WR in that event and they came in SIXTH. WTH? I mean crazy. So it took each person on the entire team to swim the race of his life to make that finish happen. And Lesak. Man...what can I say. The self-coach maverick pulled it out. He just said, "gut check time..." and did it. How many times have we done that in a HIM or a sprint or whatever and said "Screw it...I'm gonna do it..." Man you think about that but to actually see it happen. If you didn't see it you missed one of the most classic historical events in history. All I have to say is "Boooyahhhh!"

Is it my imagination, or was Lezak's entire upper body being lifted out of the water by the power of his final strokes? It was as if he was PLANING!

I think you're right - he was doing more of a "gallop" than an even stroke, wasn't he?
