This sounds about right...

See, my only issue with that is that Joel Madden is a relatively new dad and I would tend to think that trying his hand at DJing NOW is not only going to upset his baby's sleeping patterns but might also damage his hearing. I would like to see his logs to get a sense of how ready he was for this first outing. But good on him for trying.

And even if the other part is true and not gossip hearsay - her involvement and its coverage is still good for the sport ;P

I was just getting ready to post this.

Is it good that she is promoting triathlon as a sport?  Yes

But she is still a narcissistic wiener.  I'm sorry, but there are plenty of women who come back from pregnancy and compete (think Karen Smyers or Sonia O'Sullivan).  Good for her, but it's not world stopping news.  And I swear, 90% of celebrities do this stuff for charity so that 1: they get MORE publicity (for being such good people) and 2: it makes them feel better about buying $50 bottles of water.

I wonder if she'll get her own swim wave?  Can you imagine being the first person to kick J Lo in the face?  Might be worth the entry fee right there.

54th on Forbes' 2008 Celebrity 100 . right between Bon Jovi and Ben Stiller. I'd say anytime you make a Forbes' list, you're still "relevant."

Yeah, she's still going pretty strong. I dunno, I just can't hate her. Girl can't really sing and her movies are basically fluff, but she's also worked super-hard to get where she is.

It's the general public who cares what the stars do in their personal lives. It's us who by the stupid magazines and watch Entertainment TV.   If she's that irrevelant and that annoying, then why is this the third or fourth thread on a triathlon forum talking about J Lo doing a triathlon?  I figure it's nice whenever we see a star doing something healthy instead of being arrested or something equally dumb.  And if it inspires someone to pick up and do a tri, then more power to it.  As far as her having a personal trainer and a chef, hell if I had the money, I'd hire both in a heartbeat.  I don't care what kind of trainer or chef you have, you still have to do the work and you still have to carry yourself across the finish line.  Just like any triathlete on here, I say good luck.

David Duchovny, William H Macy, Jennifer Garner, Robin Williams, and a whole bunch of other stars (that we don't hear about BECAUSE they do it quietly) do this race almost annually, but don't feel any need to grab headlines...

Danziger, the Self editor, is behind all the publicity - she picked up on J Lo talking about it and so on , then they put her on the cover and they want to sell copies!

Amazing how things get blown out as ego if it is a celebrity - she quips backstage about Phelps and it gets turned into her being serious and egotistical. She was JOKING!

wow everyone just loses their sense of humor when a celebrity is involved.

I think she is a great example.  yes other women have babies and do triathlons but the majority were already triathletes - J Lo is doing this as a NON athlete.  that is cool.  that makes her an example to other women.

and in the interview she sounded like all of us - scared of the swim and wanting to finish the race.

Excerpt from MSNBC.Com:

Poor Jennifer Lopez. The new mom is training for a triathlon, but everyone is too busy watching the Olympics to notice.

Lopez, who appeared on "Good Morning America" Aug. 18 to discuss her preparations for the Malibu Triathlon, was overheard saying after the segment that she “couldn’t understand why everyone is talking about that swimmer,” according to a GMA source. “She couldn’t come up with (eight-time gold-medal winner Michael) Phelps’ name, and then she yammered on about how she was the one training for a triathlon just six months after giving birth, and how that was the big story right now, not ‘the swimmer.’ ”

Ooopps---guess training doesn't help the ole noggin'!
