That makes sense (I didn't see the women's swim).

For all the "talk" that triathletes don't need to kick, look at all the kicking they are doing.  I think more triathletes need to watch the pros and learn from them.

The no kicking talk was never good talk..

Definately need to kick but watch them kick compared to phelps.  Not even close to the same power.

Women's tri was like this last night, as was women's football this morning.  I love the fact that it's just raw video.

Well, correct me if I'm wrong, but it's not so much that we don't need to kick but that we don't need to kick like "swimmers", ie, not a sprinter's kick. Unless you are passing someone, or sprinting for the end or something. They're all kicking steadily, but they're not kicking those big, forceful, water-churning kicks like the straight-up swimmers. But you shouldn't just be dragging your feet along either and if you have a bad kick, that's not very helpful either.

(and for the record, I do not mean that we shouldn't train any different from "real" swimmers, etc, since I know the opinion of triathletes who do not train like swimmers. I just mean for the purposes of kicking, there are some differences and it's okay)

Commentators here (Greg Welch is one of out commentators) were discussing the 2 beat kick used by a lot of the triathletes vs the 6 beat used by the longer distance pool swimmers... never suggestion that a triathlete shouldnt kick...

Was more about good form and getting out of the water with the group...

RE; Commentary - this is the raw feed that networks globablly will use for their footage.  But in the women's race there WAS a text commentary running in the corner that was actually quite entertaining.

Right, not so much that triathletes don't kick, but that it's just different. I mean, you still have to kick, not only for stablization but it DOES propel you through the water to some extent. Esp. if you're not wearing a wetsuit. I'm certainly guilty of not having the best kick in the world and if I had a better kick, I might be just a teensy bit faster.

NO that is the retaining wall of the reservoir they swam in - they do 6 x 6.66 laps - one good hill.

The cheerleading group that they just past is about half way through the total loop.
