Don't put off your workouts.  Sometimes I don't do my Monday workout and plan to fit it in later in the week.  Then they just pile up and it gets really hard and overwhelming later in the week.

Also, don't be afraid to take extra rest days if you're really feeling bad.  A lot of times, I will do a shorter one if I'm feeling sick and be willing to stop early.

I'm getting ready for this one... by not running this week.  I hurt my ankle a little a few weeks ago, and was planning on starting running again this monday, but I'm putting it off another week to be safe.  The real challenge is going to be not overdoing the running this month.  I'm almost tempted to do it on a treadmill, since I have a lot of trouble running as slowly as I should be at this point.  12.5 miles per week shouldn't be any problem, as long as I can keep my ankle happy.

I'm ready.  My first tri is the upcomming weekend (aug 30th).

For me, the challenge will finish with a 10k as part of my second tri on the 28th.   That leaves me with ~34 miles to get in for the rest of the month.   I've got my schedule of training completed and if all is going well might up my challenge distance 5 miles for the month.   Trying to make sure I keep increasing my distance steadily, but since my totals are pretty low I think I can safely add more than 10-15% monthly for a while.  Started mid june and looking at june 20, july 25, august 35, september 40-45, october 45-50.   Going to be quite a while before I can put up numbers that some of the other BT members (including two teammates!) have.

Todd

Me, too. We're going to win this thing!

I'm having a dilemma. Since it has been getting darker in the mornings when I run, I feel I should purchase pepper spray, so I can have something to protect me from a scary person. (I'm a 29 year old female.) The place (a gun store) that sells pepper spray is in a small shopping center just next to my office building (a county goverment courthouse). The shopping center is literally right next door. I feel kind of weird walking over to the gun store and then walking back into the courthouse. I don't want anyone to think that I am going to blow up the courthouse!! I don't want to go to the store after work hours because that would mean another trip/more gas usage, so it makes sense to go on lunch or a break. I should just go to the store and pray that nobody sees me!

With the attention that most people have I don't think you'd have a problem even if you had other intentions!  Go get what you need and be happy and safe running!

I don't think most people would have a problem with that.  If they ask, just tell them.  I'm sure most people would understand.

Buy the pepper spray!  Better safe & having to explain your actions, than unsafe & having everyone else comfortable!

I would love to run in the morning in the dark, but my DH is TOTALLY freaked out about it since we had a incident in Central Florida with a runner.

Oh well...signs of the times.

Be safe & run lots!!!

Doesn't look like the Hatboro, PA news had any courthouse incidents today, or at least none that made the Fox news headlines, so either you didn't go or were successful today.

Hi, I am Darren.

Looks like I am the johnny come lately to the Chanticleers.

My goal is 75 miles, which is less than I am doing this month but I am doing my first iron distance race on September 13 so I figured I might be doing some tapering and recovery. Hopefully the challenge will help me get back to it.

Looking forward to having a fun month.

Welcome to the team Darren!   Looks like you'll have at least 26.2 of your miles scheduled.   Which race are you doing?

Hi team.  I'm on vacation until Tuesday, so I won't have net access as much.  I'll update the table with the new people when I get back (if that's ok with everyone).

New strategy to make sure I get my miles in September:

Sign up for a race!  I've got a 5k on Sept 27th.  Miracle Miles in Orlando  to benefit the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at Winnie Palmer Hospital for Women & Children.

Once signed up & $$ for, you gotta run!

I agree with signing up for a race to get the workouts in. I don't know if I would even exercise if I didn't have a race as a goal. I need something to work towards.

If anyone is interested, our football team is playing right now on the Big Ten Network. I apologize but they are playing Penn State, so I am rooting for the Chanticleers to lose. Apparently, this game is the first time Coastal Carolina is playing a Division 1A team. It looks it, too. With time to go in the first quarter, Penn State is already up 14-0.

I will return to rooting for the Chanticleers in a few hours.

I'm back already. I only had to stray for about 3 1/2 hours. I didn't even realize that Penn State was playing the Chanticleers. I turned on the game and heard the announcer say "Chanticleer" and I realized I had to root against myself.

By the way, the final score was PSU 66, Coastal Carolina 10.
