I was planning on doing Door County, but it seems like the general consensus is that SOR is a better race. Seems like I've got some serious pondering to do.... Pseudoyams is a friend to the Door County race director, I believe, and that guy runs a pretty good race. There's just many more that appears to participate in SOR. I wouldn't knock the Door County race. Yams, if you see this - care to elaborate? Thanks. |

Any thoughts on which is better, especially for someone who wants to jump up to the 1/2IM distance? I haven't done the Door County although I would think it would be fun. I strongly recommend Racine as it's well run, closer for you in Madison and the bike course is very flat. Run course has a couple hills and then is very flat. Only issue is swimming in Lake Mich can be a challenge but you'd essentially be in Lake Michigan up in Door County anyway. Do Racine and then hit Door the next year before IM 2010. Done! The swim is the exact reason I would do Door. I was told that Horseshoe Bay was an inlet and far calmer than SOR. I used to live on Lake Michigan in Racine and the waves could be brutal, especially at the beach if the wind was blowing (which it always seems to be). Still pondering..... |

My total (since I do have a membership) came to $102 something...so the $110 sounds about right...The actual price for the HIM (after the early bird) is $150... |
