jrcody - 2008-12-04 8:48 AM Where is a good place to stay that is located near the start?

If you want to be near the start, buy a camping pass and stay inside the park.  Otherwise it's about a 30-40 minute drive from Paso Robles to the park.

Sounds like I will be camping .... do you know what is available in the event camping area (hot showers / food)? thanx

There are park showers that are hot enough,  After the race you want a cold shower   You could also try sneaking into the Team in Training showers they bring in, like movie star trailer type of thing.

Food - You've got to count on camp cooking.  There is a little store at the campground area, but the campground is a couple hundred feet above the lake/expo, where the hot food is.  Don't want to be hiking that up and down too much.  they have a Friday night (I think) pasta dinner you can buy tickets for, but I am not sure if that is up at the camp or down at the lake...

Don't forget you need to pre-buy a camping pass, otherwise it's like $50 more at the gate, plus festival fees for each person int eh car.  A camping pass covers everyone in one car for camping and festival fees.

The pasta dinner was down at the lake (back down the hill). And really bad. AND gives $$ to a religious group (good to know in advance, just in case that's not your thing). Chris is right, stay up top and pack your own food

Bring toilet paper. Eventually the park bathrooms run out.

Same here--with the camping fee, my reg was more than 1/4 of our rent, actually.

...And my wife still has to sign up for the Oly...

(Kept reminding myself how much more it would cost if we were staying two nights in a hotel...given that, it really isn't bad.)

True about the hotel; but I do not even own a tent. I guess I am going to have to get one after Christmas when they go on sale.

Sorry, I do not know; this is my first time at WF. If I find out I will post it.

Please.  Swear it off forever?  riiiight.   It's a drug, you keep coming back.

As for selling out, it will, but it will not sell out IMAZ style.  At least 2 or 3 months (don't quote me on that).  Once general reg is open you can open a link that shows the total number, and somewhere they also tell you how many they are letting in, so you can tell if it's getting close

BTW - first trail run for WF training started today

Here is a stupid question for the group --- which bike should I use? I have 3 (road, full suspension MTB, and a hybrid road with MTB tires and road gearing). Thanx from the WF Newbie.

Unless you are doing the MTB race you are going to want to use your road bike with road tires.  While the Long course has trail running the bike is all on pavement.

Thanx, I was wondering since all of the pictures showed MTBs. Right now I am doing some maintenance riding since I am getting ready for the Redding Marathon in Jan; after that I will be on the bike for some solid miles. Thanx Again.

If you are in M40-44, ride the heavy Mountain Bike, you will thank me later    Oh, and don't bother training hills for the bike or run.  They say it's a hilly course, but that's just to scare you

Definitely!  It's not easy to run a full marathon in a pink evening gown! Try it and you'll see
