This, on the other hand, is Very professional!

This is a chair I use at my desk due to my lower back issues.  I will say, that, it is expensive, but beautiful!  It works your core...keeps your feet flat on the floor and promotes perfect posture.  It was the best investment I have made as it completely eliminated my need to go for chiropractic and physical therapy care!

I've got an exercise ball at work, and I love it. I started working at a full-time desk job a little under a year ago, and the chair was one of those really expensive Herman Miller chairs. Nonetheless, in under two weeks I started to have back problems. When I got promoted out of the front office (though really, they probably wouldn't have cared) I switched to the ball. Back pain disappeared almost immediately.

It's mildly weird that people aren't allowed to use them because they're unprofessional - they're better for your health and your productivity. Seems fairly mature and professional to me!

bah

So I guess it's professional to end up with repetitive stress injuries and back pain from crappy chair-sitting posture?

(I got vetoed on the exercise ball too, due to the possibility of its creating a hazard if it were to roll.

the bear - 2009-07-31 3:51 PM Vetoed by my boss as not being very professional.

If I were to act 'professional' my boss wouldn't know what to make of it.

seriously...Then again I technically don't have a boss in this country and I usually clean the car, bike and computer parts off my desk before he comes over even though my job involves cars and computers

Really a shame it was vetoed for some of you having been using it for a year I really do suggest it to everyone who can.

End of Day 2 of Fitness Ball Chair: Back got a little tired this afternoon. But I feel great now. Noticed I'm sitting more erect in conventional chair. Also notice abs...that's new for me.

Kiddos are blowing up their balls, 3 of them fighting over 2 balls...poor planning on my part. Will see how this goes.

One of my fellow 5th grade teachers has had them in her classroom for 2 years. The only problem is she asked kids to bring in their own, and many had parents who bought them and never used them and were happy to donate, but most are way too big, if you ask me, and they are kept very under-inflated so kids aren't sitting higher than their desks! The smaller size that are kept pumped up seem better to me.

It really doesn't cause any problems with too much bouncing. If anyone gets out of control, they have to switch to a chair for the rest of the day. A few kids prefer a chair.

I'm sitting on one right now in front of the home PC. I've got 6 in my 5th grade classroom. It can be good for some.

I like this idea. I'm going to at least start it at the house and see how it goes before I move to putting it in the office.

I'm not sure how the boss will feel, but the worst he can do is say no

Sitting on my new exercise ball/office chair as I type this. I'm liking it. I can definitely see how it will be beneficial.

BT branded exercise balls...hmm...

That's *a lot* of entertainment for 4 seconds.  Now I'd like to see the blooper videos of of the non-gymnastically inclined trying the same thing.

no kidding!  LOL!!!

And one good reason NOT to use them:

A friend of mine (yes, I swear it was a friend! :-p) was using one at work.  One day she had an extra big lunch, and got your mid-afternoon food-coma.  She fell asleep for half a second, rolled off the ball and smacked her head on the corner of her desk!   She went back to using a regular chair.

I use one at home for my computer chair - mostly because I'm too cheap/lazy to go buy myself a real chair :-p

"Heck"! I can do that!!! LOL! (NOT)!

Just the thought of using an exercise ball as a chair makes my sciatica worse.

My old job had one of these out in the lab.  Inevitably I could tell from across the lab who was sitting on it because they would be bobbing up and down behind the computer screen.

yeah I use one that is probably one size smaller than it should be and just over inflate it. Helps that i have an air compressor a the office so no pumping

How long does it take to pump one up (by hand, no compressor)? Thinking I might try to get away with it at work by deflating and stashing. Just worried I won't be arsed to inflate and use.

not too long but more than you'd want to inflate and deflate it every single day. My home one came with a foot pump so that wasn't too bad but still 5-10 minutes probably
