OK, thanks CHAMPION!  I will go check it out.

Uh, that's just based on my post counts. It's something the website assigns. It really doesn't mean I'm a champion- at anything- for that matter! HA!

You're a champ at several things, I just can't talk about any of them on BT.

I'll be doing it and my kids will be doing the kids tri.  They are pretty excited.  We went for a bike ride the other night and they did really well for 4 miles.  I'll have to work on the swimming with the younger.  She can swim, but not like big sis who is on swim team.  I just need to make sure she will be ok with the distance.  The bike/run shouldn't be a problem for either one of them.

I'm in -

And oddly enough so is hubs. He decided to do this one too...and basically is not training, has not ridden a bike except as a kid, but at least runs 3 times a week and plays basketball a couple times a week. One of those 'ah that doesn't look too hard' kind of guys, he he. His fitness should bring him to the finish line, I just hope the heat and such doesn't make it too hard on him first time out!

Wave if ya see me there.

So um, does he swim? A 50 meter pool can be hard for someone who doesn't swim.

I wish you two the best of luck!

Only swims in the sense of 'will not drown'. We did a timed 300m the other night and he came in at 7:35. He thinks he should be able to stand up in at least one end of the pool and will side-stroke if he gets tired. No doubt he will be exhausted when he gets out though! I'm really pushing the 'don't eat the paste your first time out' mantra.

TexasHeatRunner - 2009-08-17 9:43 PM I just signed up on Saturday the 15th to beat the price increase cut off. Will be my first Sprint Tri and looking forward to it.  Totally new.  Any hints on setting up the transition stage would be greatly appreciated!  Thanks!
Go to general discussion and you will see a lot of threads about transition area. If you do a search of the website you will pull up a lot of great results. GOOD LUCK!!!!

There are some great videos in the archive that will put you a step ahead of the other first timers.  Also keep an eye out for some free clinics that pop up, usually tied with a race.  You just missed one in  The Colony that JeepFleeb put on.  If you can catch one of his, they are probably the best I have been to so far. he had us doing some basic skill drills and not just...put this here and do this....

Frank used to be with Texas Triple Threat who put the race on last year with Punch Buggy.

Hey Ken, you back in town?  Or just cruising the TX threads?
Nope still in PA but dreaming of the flatlands.

just looked up the run portion of the race. it's a pretty long way from the transition area. It says labor day cookout but it's a pretty long way.

I think I might be pretty tired after the race. I don't want to have to hike back. (i know stop whing and just handle it. After all you're a triathlete)

The run course is slightly different than last year, though the finish and transitions are in the same place. It is a bit of a hike but not ridiculous. After sitting around in the amphitheater and eating some food and relaxing for a while, you'll find the energy to walk back.

It is pretty cool in that your fans can see you several times on the run if they have the map of the run. As they stroll from the transition to the finish, they should be able to see you leave transition, somewhere around mile 1 as you make the loop back towards transition, again on Spring Creek, and then at the finish.

Rode the bike course on Saturday. It's different than last year. All right turns except for one left. Traffic should be a lot better than last year. See you all out there on Monday.

Short report:
Fast smooth course. 2 short hills in the beginning, lots of flat, then a little hilly towards the end of the loops(perfect, at the end, naturally).

Longer Report:
-Road is smooth. Didn't notice any significant cracks or holes.
-Little downhill out of T1 will be nice to get speed up and going.
-Short steep climb once on Los Rios. No downhill beforehand to help.
-Down a fast hill and back up another short steeper hill to Parker Rd. The downhill helps this one a lot and is not as bad.
-Flat for a long ways until going down Park where there is a slight downhill.
-Little roller on Spring Creek(up and down).
-Hill on Parker up to Jupiter.
-Hill on Jupiter towards T2.
-And there is either a long false flat on Jupiter towards T2 or the wind was just me off on Saturday.

Thanks for the run-down Tim, the bike course was the only thing I didn't care for much at this race last year.  Sounds like they realized it and changed it.
