Hey, who is doing this race?

Figured I would sign up since I typically do a run & swim on Mondays. Why not throw a bike in as well?

I heard it's a good race.

I did the race last year and it was a very good race.  They had a band and some adult beverages (if you looked hard enough) afterwards.  The only thing that stunk was the finish was a little distance from the transition.

Last year there was some fast people.  I think I finished 20th out of 400ish finishers and was 8th in my age group.

I would definately do it again this year if it was not a days drive away.

I'm in.  I heard good things about it as well from a couple of friends who did it last year.  Looks like the bike course has been changed some.  Best part is that it is not on a Sunday morning!

Who cares? Take one break from this long/slow/boring sh1t and come do a short/fast/fun race. You know you want to!

That's going to be on the day after I do 2 days of long/slow/boring rides, I might want to just lay around.

What I'm saying is to replace some of that long/slow/boring with this short/fast/fun. The whole thing about training is stressing your body, right? So what is more stress? I'd argue they're probably pretty similar. Long stuff is hard because it is so long. Short stuff is hard because it is so fast. Both are a hard workout.

Skip one of those long days, replace it with this race, it'll still be a good, hard workout which is really all we are all after.

Eh, I vote to take some of the shorter workouts from the week following the race and putting them towards race day.

But it will be hard to do two long days and then a sprint. His performance probably wouldn't be where he would want it to be due to the two long days.

I'm after a massive improvement @ Longhorn, everything else comes second.

None of the above. New race director. Not sure if there is really a company name attached to it. The guy I've talked to is named Frank something. Seems like a nice guy. That is all I know.

Exactly why I said replace one of the long days with the sprint. Long day on Saturday, rest on Sunday, race on Monday = no problem.

I just signed up on Saturday the 15th to beat the price increase cut off. Will be my first Sprint Tri and looking forward to it.  Totally new.  Any hints on setting up the transition stage would be greatly appreciated!  Thanks!

And oddly enough so is hubs. He decided to do this one too...and basically is not training, has not ridden a bike except as a kid, but at least runs 3 times a week and plays basketball a couple times a week. One of those 'ah that doesn't look too hard' kind of guys, he he. His fitness should bring him to the finish line, I just hope the heat and such doesn't make it too hard on him first time out!

Wave if ya see me there.

So um, does he swim? A 50 meter pool can be hard for someone who doesn't swim.

I wish you two the best of luck!
