Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() MomX3 - 2009-11-11 4:45 PM I've been checking the website every day - it's at 94% right now so I figured I could probably wait until after my race this weekend to make my decision. Being able to do it is an issue for me - 26 miles sounds insane!!! But, it may be my only chance to do it with friends who run at my pace (really slow) so I may go for it. And I love Disney so even if my race sucks I can still ride the refurbed Space Mt. ![]() Yes it only sounds insane because you haven't done 26.2 before. :-) Every distance sounds insane, yet we keep increasing it and it turns out ok. :-) I remember when a 5k seemed like a tough race. That does sound interesting, seeing the refurbed Space Mountain. I wonder what it looks like. Have a good race this weekend! Edited by kalalau 2009-11-11 3:57 PM |

Elite ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I officially signed up today! Jeff, I'd love to do a BT dinner but I'll be there with tons of people (my family, my running partners & their familes) so i don't think i can make it. I made dinner reservations at Il Mulino at the Swan hotel. |

Champion ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I would love to do the Goofy, but my first marathon was a mess. I should be able to run Disney around 4 hours (knock wood), which is an hour faster than my first one. I am looking forward to running from park to park. I am also wondering what life will be like in the park the day after the race. I am certain that I will NOT be the ONLY one hobbling about. Do they run out of those electric carts on "the day after"? |

Member ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Disney is not a good race to have a time goal or to go looking for a PR. There are at least 15,000 other runners and at times the course gets very narrow. Run Disney for fun and look for a time at another, smaller race. That's my suggestion. |

The narrowness is a problem but I'm not sure that's slowed me down too much, probably because I make sure I get the best corral I can. I think the concrete course may play a part as well. I've done 4 of these so far and I've tended to be about 3-10 minutes slower than what I have done in other races. And obviously, Christmas and New Year's drinking and eating have NOTHING to do with performance in this race. ;-) Edited by kalalau 2009-12-09 12:57 PM |

If your PR is sub 3:30, you will be out in front of the crowd for most of the race. Make sure to seed yourself well within your corral. The corrals are very large. The beginning can still be a little crowded because not everyone will self seed correctly. But be patient and it will thin out soon enough. |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() This is my first marathon too... I was going to do Goofy but after DNFing at IM WI this year, I thought I just needed a solid race to bring my self esteem back up again. The holidays certainly making training difficult, but I am glad this is just for fun! How many days till race day? |
![]() ![]() |
Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I have to agree...this is not the race to run for a specific time unless you're in one of the front corrals. Even with a 3:15 goal in 2009, I still came in at 3:19 because I did so much running around people...and I was in the first corral. Everything bunches up at the aid stations and stuff. Yes, Kel...you can bake! Make something yummy!! Of course, ummm...I'll be in the living room while you're baking in the kitchen, so it's not like I won't know! Less than a month til the big day! |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Hey All, Doing Goofy for the second time this year. Gonna run nice and SLOW, as I have been struggling with an Achilles tendon problem for a few weeks and my run milage has dropped. Had a great time at Goofy last year, so I can't wait to start the year off that way again. And...did someone say they are brining cookies? I am keen to meet anyone with Cookies. |

Extreme Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Ok so Goofy repeaters, please give us some ideas for how you approached previous years and how it worked out. I am thinking I can probably do ok with a 1:55-2:00 half marathon, where my norm is around 1:45. Then I think I can do the full on Sunday and be ok, but really I haven't done Goofy before so I don't know what the full will feel like. |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Does anyone have information on discount theme park tickets? I was surprised that there is no mention of a discount of marathoners on the website. Any other ways to get discounts for tickets? |

I was surprised that there is no mention of a discount of marathoners on the website. Any other ways to get discounts for tickets? There's no discount for marathoners. The best discounts/deals I have found have been at places like an MWR for military, or AAA. There is a Walmart (Kissimmee?) that has a Disney discount thing but when I went, it wasn't significant enough to make me care. If by chance you are military, they did have an awesome deal for free and discounted tickets, sometime this year, and that may be continuing. MouseSavers is one of my favorite websites of all time, and can save you money on rentals, hotels, and tickets. I linked the ticket page here. If there are any discounts to be found it will be listed on this site.

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Does anyone know if you have t buy tickets to the Chear Squad in order to see your family finish at the finish line? Is the finish line inside a park? Do you have to have a ticket to the park to see the finish? Any info would be very helpful. My mom is running the half and my sister and I are running the full and we want to make sure we can see everyone finish. |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Correct, finish is in one of the back parking lots of Epcot, but good luck trying to see people AT the finish line unless you get there a while beforehand...it's usually so crowded there that it's almost impossible to see. If you get there early enough you can get up in the bleachers, but people are there early, so plan accordingly! |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() kalalau - 2010-01-04 10:04 PM Not "4 AM???", it's "4 AM!!!!" When I did Providence, I told myself that I was never going to do another race that required me to get up at 3 so I could catch a shuttle by 4. My wife just laughed when I told her and asked for a wake-up call when I hit mile 13. |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I always laugh to myself because I have to get up earlier for this race than for an Ironman. I've learned over the years to NOT stay on Disney property (I stay just offsite) and just drive to the race site around 5am on race morning...this way I don't have to be up as early. |

Is the traffic as bad as they say it is on the website? We are staying at the Swan and will have a rental car, and I am thinking about having my mom drop us off since the start is only 1.5 miles from our hotel. The website says that the traffic is bad, though, so I wasnt' sure if we'd be able to get through? |
