Expert 1076 Las Vegas, NV | Subject: RE: Team 2 Halloween Run Challenge My goal for the month is 112 miles. Big push for the peak training for IMAZ, but going to try and focus on bike with run distance secondary. Had set a lower goal for September, but legs and joints seem to be holding up okay so I'm going to target over 100 again for October. |

Champion 19812 MA | Subject: RE: Team 2 Halloween Run Challenge I've been working on my goal for October. Since I took 4 weeks off running I need to build gradually. What I think I will do is 30 sessions of running or walking for total of 30 hours. |

Master 1639 Robbinsville NJ | Subject: RE: Team 2 Halloween Run Challenge Hi everyone. I'm Bob from NJ and just completed my last Tri for the year. My new goal is to gain back the 2 minutes or so I've lost on my 5K time and the way to do that is focus on running. I'm going to put down for 60 miles this month. Running Pumpkins sounds good to me. |

Champion 19812 MA | Subject: RE: Team 2 Halloween Run Challenge Hi I figure I should introduce myself. I'm Kathy, married 24 years this October, have 5 kids 11-20, and been doing tris since 2004 when I joined BT. I don't work outside the home so I have time to train when kids are in school. For many years I was a mom that continued to gain a little weight every year and got over 250 pounds. Somehow in 2003 I tried and was successful at losing weight. I started playing women's soccer about 4 months after I started losing weight and heard some of my team mates talking about a triathlon they had done. I thought that would be a great thing to try to prove I had changed my life. Over the years I have lost 97 pounds but in last year put a few back on. I did my first triathlon a year later and it was hard as I didn't really swim, hadn't biked in years, and I hated running. Somehow things improved and in time I rekindled my love for riding as I rode a lot as a young teenager and even did a 500 mile bike trip in middle school, it took about 2 years to enjoy running and swimming I struggle with as I'm slow but work hard at it. Each year I moved up to do longer and longer races. 2008 I completed my first Ironman at Lake Placid and this year I focused on IM training and completed with a tough day Ironman Canada. I found with working with a new coach this year, with more frequent running and more over all running my durability improved, I didn't have any run injuries, and when I started running 30+ miles per week, I started getting faster. My goals this off season are to lose a bit of weight ideally getting to 16-17% body fat, run a lot 4-5x a week and 30+ mph, and ride a lot. Edited by KathyG 2009-09-28 1:19 PM |

Extreme Veteran 322 Reston, VA | Subject: RE: Team 2 Halloween Run Challenge Hi! Late addition to the team here... My name's Caitlin, I'm 22, and I live in northern VA. My only race of the season is coming up on Sunday, although I did a sprint tri in each 2006 and 2007 and survived a half marathon in March of '08. As I grew up my athletic background was primarily in swimming and later in rowing, and I picked up triathlon training during college as a way to keep active. So far in this sport I've done well training for individual events but always seem to fall off the training wagon after the race is over. This means past few years since I started tri'ing have been a constant cycle of starting over, each time starting a little bit more out of shape than the previous time I started over. That said, my main long-term goal at this point is to STICK WITH IT! Running has always been a weakness of mine, but I think with some continuity in my training I could see real improvements. So I'm heading into this winter with a couple of potential races in mind (10k in December, maybe a spring half marathon), but a true goal of slowly building my run mileage to 15-20 mpw or more and then holding it there consistently. I'll post back with my October-specific goals soon... Happy running, everyone! |

Master 1322 Chicago | Subject: RE: Team 2 Halloween Run Challenge I'm a big nightmare before Christmas fan (my bike is even named zero) so I really LOVE the pumpkin graphic it's very cool. (I love his little skull bucket too!) so Running Pumpkins would be cool, but I'm open to anything. (but can we keep the gothy graphic?) I'll introduce myself later I had a rough weekend so just trying to get back on track. I'm working on what my goal will be. Probably every other day for at least 30-60mins as I'm training for a 15k on Nov 1st which for me will be just a get-through-it and try and run as much as possible thing. I think I'll be slow, but OK. I can do 6 miles so 3 more shouldn't be too bad in cool weather. Anyway, Hi all! Excited about the challenge. Edited by IdealMuse 2009-09-28 4:52 PM |

Master 1322 Chicago | Subject: RE: Team 2 Halloween Run Challenge Okay my quick little intro - I work at home as an artist (Metalworking and Bookbinding) sometimes do shows, but not this year (economy sucks) and sell my work online as well. I'm married 14 years (tomorrow!) no kids... 2 cats. I'm 35. Been overweight and non-athletic most of my life. In 2007 I made the push to finally lose this weight for the last time and worked my way from 302 all the way down to 186. I did both my first Sprint and Olympic last summer. Gained a small part back and worked re-losing that and did my 2nd Olympic this summer. I'm hanging around 200 now trying to lose 50 more and currently training for a 15k in Nov and IMOO 2010. As I'm sorta the underdog to say the least I'm going to be training for it all year. Off to run! Edited by IdealMuse 2009-09-28 6:09 PM |

Pro 4353 Wallingford, PA | Subject: RE: Running Pumpkins - Halloween Run Challenge Hi all! I just wanted to introduce myself.... I'm Jenny, 46 years old, stay at home mom of 3 kids. Like many others here, I found myself overweight & out of shape a few years after the kids were born. I started doing tri's about 4 years ago, and have lost most of that extra weight (I have about 5 - 10 lbs to get to where I really want to be). I have a half-mary in November, and am planning on running pretty high volume through October. I need to figure out exactly what my goal mileage is - I'll try to get that posted in the next day or so, but I plan to be running 30+ miles most weeks. |

Master 1322 Chicago | Subject: RE: Running Pumpkins - Halloween Run Challenge Thanks Kathy's Kids! I'm not sure how to put my goal in though looking at the chart... I wanted to do every other day for at least 30mins but since that's not the same number of days each week I don't know. Should I just add up the hours or?? Too bad we didn't start already. Really good run day today. 7miles and some walking after. |

Should I just add up the hours or?? Too bad we didn't start already. Really good run day today. 7miles and some walking after. Yes.... Add up all the time. You can enter it as minutes or hours, whichever you prefer. For example, you do 15 run sessions during the month, of at least 30 min each: 15 x 30 = 450 minutes or 7.5 hours. So on the spreadsheet, you'd enter either 450 minutes or 7.5 hours. Also, you can always raise your goal during the month. So if you end up doing longer sessions than 30 min, you can increase your goal, if you reach the 450 min early on. |

Does anyone have any questions about the spreadsheet and entering your runs? Ummm, you shouldn't need to add columns.... Just do it as a month-long goal, rather than a weekly one. And yes, if anyone has questions about the spreadsheet, or how to enter their goal, definitely let me know! |
