Lemme in if yas still got space?

NAME: Randall (whereisrandall is 'cause I travel a bunch.)

STORY: Self employed musician, love being active but never make enough space for it. Have run 1 marathon (5.05) and three half marathons. Love distance swimming (longest 6k) but mostly breaststroke, side/back. My crawl is just coming up to speed. Friends with the Marmadaddy, he's most of the resaon I'm here.

FAMILY STATUS: Partner and home in mid-coast Maine, we're kid-minded.

CURRENT TRAINING: Maintaining by myself about 3x weekly at the local Y. Going to sign up for the multisport class if I miss a day of training. Just getting to like weights and strength training, otherwise I aim to do sprint distances as my daily workout. A coach at the local Y helped me with freestyle, and I'm excited about being able to maintain it for sprint distance. Today swam 10.45 for 525, aiming for 9:00 ish.

THIS YEAR'S RACES: Half marathon in Columbus Ohio this summer (2.02)

2010 RACES: Would love to do the Maine Y-Tri (sprint), Lobsterman (Olympic), Polarbear 5k, and maybe another one or two - but loathe to dole out the entrance fees. USA-Tri helps with this, maybe?

2011 RACES: haven't the foggiest.

WEIGHTLOSS: Slowly but surely. Have gained 7-10 lbs since summer training, and ready to keep dropping. I'm a strong 5'11" 218. I'm bad at tracking (WW, Livestrong, hard to keep up.) My biggest issue is setting a good learning goal, rather than a number goal.

WHAT WILL MAKE ME A GOOD MENTEE: I'm a consequence setter, and pretty good with following through. And encouraging: go team!

Name: Wade from Texas

Story: 41 yrs old, married w/ one son. Pretty active (running). Completed 4 marathons in the past 3 years (sub-4hr) and several halfs and 25ks etc. Caught the Tri bug from a friend of mine so here I go. I have committed to Houston 26.2 in January '10 and Austin 26.2 in February '10...then I'm full time tri-training. I bike alittle, just to supplement training, but definitely no expert. I have yet to hit the water, I'm still looking for a gym with a pool then I'll be in business.

2009 Goals: I would like to complete a couple of sprints in the summer and maybe a Oly in the fall.

I'm really looking forward to learning all I can about this great sport!

"then have to take my son for his first haircut!!!  (any tips???)"

Dave, there will probably be crying involved, so just get the camera or video out (or both as we did) and enjoy the moment.

As for this weekend...I'm on recovery week from a 30K race last weekend. So, I'll probably just do an easy 7 or 8 miler (knees are kinda sore). I have Houston 26.2 coming Jan 17th.

Dave, I'd like to join.

NAME: RecTri/Dano

STORY: Nearing 40 a few years ago, was about 30lbs overweight and running 3.1 miles 3 times a week was getting monotonous. My friends told me I should start biking with them for some variety and one asked me to be part of his Oly tri team. Just participating in one leg I was hooked and couldn't wait to do my first full tri. I have done 3 or 4 sprints the last 2 seasons.

FAMILY STATUS: Married for 21 years this month with 4 boys.

CURRENT TRAINING: Rehab running due to injuries.

THIS YEAR'S RACES: Did 4 sprints, a 10K, and a 5K.

2010 RACES:  Would like to do the same schedule plus 1 Oly tri.

WEIGHTLOSS: Just trying to stay fit and stay at a healthy weight.

You said 2-3 more...that makes me #3.  Can I join in the fun?

NAME: Ann-Marie

STORY: Swam in high school and one year of college, but really wasn't one for working hard at anything.  Did a couple relay sprint tris as a teenager with my dad and sister (I was the swimmer).  Although I hated endurance sports, I always had a secret dream of running a marathon.  Trained hard (probably too hard too fast) and completed (barely-ouch!) one in 2008.  It was the toughest thing I ever did and it made me realize that maybe I am not the lazy quitter I always thought I was.  I did, however, strain my knee, hip, and ankle in the mary and so I started getting in the pool to stay fit.  That led to me training and completing my first sprint tri last summer.

FAMILY STATUS: Married for 14 years with a daughter (14) and son (12)

CURRENT TRAINING: Took some time off after my second sprint tri and am now ramping up to get ready for the new season. I am a decent swimmer, but am a horribly slow runner and am an inexperienced cyclist.

2009 RACES: Camp Pendleton Sprint Tri (July) & Long Beach Sprint (Sept)

2010 RACES:  Race on the Base sprint tri Feb. 27th, Kring & Chung Sprint tri April, Camp Pendleton Sprint July,  maybe an Olympic...

WEIGHTLOSS: If I lose any more weight I will cease to exist.  I have always struggled with my weight...to keep it on.  I am naturally a skinny bones jones and have hated it as much as someone hates being overweight.  I love training because there are some bumps and curves where there used to be just stick arms and legs.

Dave,

If you got room, would love to join.  I was in another Mentor group with Shane but he has 19 people.   I did a mentor group last year with about 9-10 and it was awewsome, great accountability to keep me training.

If you got room and will take me, let me know and I will post my "resume" and goals for 2010.

Hello!

Newbie hoping I can join your group.  If so, here is my info...

STORY: Swimmer and former water polo player.  Only swam competitively up to high school, but kept up with the water polo casually through college and grad school.  I have envied triathaletes my entire life, and I have always wanted to get into the sport.  However, I was always intimidated by the running (used to hate running!!!).  Tackled that beast last year, started training in running, and completed a 14K followed by a half marathon with decent times.  Now I feel ready to make the transition to tris.

FAMILY STATUS:
Married with one very young daughter (7 weeks). A little worried about training and home time with daughter!

CURRENT TRAINING: Currently training for Escape from Alcatraz. Entered the lottery and got in!  I wouldn't even think of doing this as my first tri of I did not have the swimming background!

THIS YEAR'S RACES: As noted above, did a 14k and half marathon.

2010 RACES:  Alcatraz is the only thing on my radar.

WEIGHTLOSS: At a good weight.  Could probably use a little more muscle.

Happy Monday all, Anyone else catch Kona on NBC this weekend?  I DVR'd it and watched it after my son went to bed, I cozied up on the couch with a beer and some holiday cookies and watched the best of our sport go at it, how horrible is that?

Pretty bummed this morning, I got a good workout in Saturday night, some lifting and a 5K on the treadmill, but yesterday got derailed with the snow and holiday cookies.  Needless to say the scale was not nice to me this morning.  I need help getting through the rest of December.  I can easily pack on the lbs during these next 2 weeks.  Cookies be dammed!

My planned schedule this week includes PT today and wednesday (I've been having tendonitis and IT band issues in my right knee) Run tomorrow, Thursday then a lift and run Saturday.  Hopefully I can control my eating during the the X-mas festivities. I am interviewing a swim coach hopefull today to get my swimming back on track in Jan.  What does  everyone elses week look like?  Screwey with the holidays, but I hope to have it work in my favor.

Hope everyone had a great weekend.
