ADollar79 - 2010-07-02 9:22 AM Talk in ATL is they offered Johnson the max to stay and he agreed.  Rumored to be a done deal by the end of the weekend.

Can't say that I think it was the smartest move for the Hawks.

I think he was getting a max deal whereever he went,  which I don't think he deserves,, not saying that he isn't a great player but I think there are only about 4-5 players in the league that should get the max.

I think the teams can't announce anything until the 7th or 9th  but players can comment.  So it will be in rumored but true status until then.

Pierce and the Celts just agreed to a new deal.  Looks like they are going to bring Allen back as well to get 1 more shot at this.

most likely not,,  two more very good ones,, one good one, then the last..  still not bad if they develop talent around him.  but once a player hits a 1,000 games it's downhill...

please no..

we need to take a massive cap/ luxury tax hit and get rid of quite a few contracts, we are like the cavs in the sense for our payroll we don't have a lot of return on that money..

Dirk will get a max,, I'm ok with that,,, but no one else should be close unless we sign and trade.. I'd rather we go after melo, wade, or somehow get durant here from OKC.

If they all take the regular season off and turn it on in the playoffs like they did this year, he will.  But, I think don't think they will be able to coast the after Christmas and get in anymore.

He was already gone..  I think he should get back with his old coach in NYC, that way he won't have to look like he's playing defense

What's crazy is that I don't think he's worth a max deal.  Neither is Rudy Gay, nor is Joe Johnson.

Wouldn't you think max deals are for players who are the absolute best.  IMHO, you need to be a consistant 1st team all NBA to deserve a max contract.  And you also need to have some flash to your game.  Teams pay players not only because they play well, but because they sell tickets and merchandice.  They bring in rich sponsorship $ and make the franchise profitable.

You wonder why most NBA teams are not making money...

I think they finally realized that there were not getting anyone, and had to do something.

He is a name player, gets on espn highlight reel, and the NY knicks get to overpay someone with a hx of injuries, poor effort, immaturity and needs an MVP level point guard to feed him the ball.  Wasn't it a few years back that the Knicks stole the Bulls player that they Bulls were going to pay for him to never play the game again because of an underlaying heart problem? Tyson Chandler and they were acting like they hit the lotto getting him.  while I hope it doesn't happen Amare will look good in his suit sitting on the bench with an injury.

I"ve lost a lot of respect for a few espn writers that keep pushing the lebron/wade/bosh is going to NY angle, just because it's new york. It's sad,  Even the nba espn chat room and forums are filled with people that are sick of all the pretend hype.

Knicks have a history of taken ex Suns people and not getting the same out of them, can't see the history changing on this deal unless they land a few other big name free agents which I can't see happening either.

It's alot of money for someone that will now be able to go back to not having to worry about defense...

I still think it's a LOOOOOONG shot for Lebron to join the Heat.  Most likely gonna stay in Cleveland.

This whole 1 hour special on ESPN where he is gonna make his announcement tastes disgusting!

I was kind of amazed that bosh didn't want to join Bron in Cleveland, since it's Clevenland..  The one constant rumor has always been that Bosh wants a sign and trade to get that extra 25-30 million.  The raptors have said that the heat have nothing on their roster interesting enough for a sign and trade.  So I'm curious, since I thought that both wade and bron were trying to talk Bosh into playing with them. <more likely two than all three on the same team> .    I'm wondering if the fact that florida is tax free will sway Bosh into not doing a sign and trade, and just outright sign with the heat.

Or

is this just another "insider" tale.    I give Lebrons inner circle credit, they have been tight lipped and not divulged anything
