Did this race change hands for this year?  I had asked about the clydes division and they had told me there is none for WTC races.  They offered that class last year, so im guess WTC didn't own them last year?

I think its more like WTC just doesn't recognize those divisions any more.

Yes, the race director this year is new. Bill Burke sold the race off to the same company who produces Ironman Florida and a few other full Ironman events.

Thus the rumors that 2011 will be the last year it is a half before it is turned into a full.  The new company doesn't produce any other 70.3 events.

Hi All

I have signed up for the race a few weeks ago and have a few questions.

Could someone plz  explain the Logistics  for the race  to me.

1) How do we get to the swim start in the morning with our bikes or do e leave them the night before.
2) How do we get our bikes after the finish ( is there transportation back to T1 and T2) .

PLz if you have any helpful info like where to stay  and suggestions about this race plz feel free  to share.

Thanks

1) There will be a new race director this year, so alot is still unknown, but in previous years you had to drop your bike off the previous day.  It was kind of a big mess.  Packet pick up and the mandatory athlete meeting was downtown, then you had to drop your bike off at UNO (transition), then return to where you stayed the night, then back to UNO race morning, then finish the race downtown, then go back to pick UNO your bike before 9 pm.

2)  There are busses to take you back to T2, but you will have to arrange for your own transportation from there.

As far as recommendations to stay, it really depends on if you will have a car and would you prefer to stay downtown/french quarter or closer to transition and closer to transition.

Not in yet as I still need to pay for IMFL but will sign up before year end.  We usually have 10 - 15 folks participating in the race.  Everyone from our team that ran last year said it was a good race and will be signing up again this year.

enjoy,

Does anyone know what food/drink will be available at the aid stations?  I want to buy some for training.

New race director but still a IM (WTC) 70.3?  Are you saying that this won't be IM (WTC) event anymore (as there is a full series of IM 70.3's) or WTC is converting this from a IM 70.3 to a full IM?

Having a 140.6 this close to home would be handy.

Regarding transportation: I would rent a car if you are not local. Bumming rides and arranging taxis to transport the bike up there and back was a HUGE pain.

Well, the rumor had been that it was to turn into a full WTC M Dot branded 140.6 Ironman, like it was supposed to be before hurricane Katrina.

Although last week, I heard from source within Ochsner this is now out of the picture with Houston getting a full.

The consolation from WTC might be the fact that NOLA got a 5150 and an Irongirl event.

I signed up for this race today.  I've been training for a marathon in January, so my running base is there.  I just need to get back to biking and swimming.  This will be my first half, so I'm looking forward to it.

Bummer, while I enjoy having a 70.3 this close a Full would have been awesome also.  5150 is nice but not sure its worth the cost especially with the Big Cajun Oly in New Roads.

msteiner - welcome!

Yep, good race.  I did in 2010.  Swim was bit choppy but not too bad, bike pretty good (some rough roads), run was hot but the finish line was incredible.

Andy, probably the flattest course you will ever do. No elevation changes on bike or run, plus its a wetsuit swim. Just be prepared for possible high humidity. Good luck!

Awfully quiet here.  How is everyones training going?

For me the bike is doing great, only been doing up to 2 hr rides (30-38 miles) and swimming I am concentrating on speed right now.  My return to running has gone well and my longest run has been 7 miles.
