This makes me so fearful ....very emotional right now. Lauren is such an uplifting role model in this sport and i don't know Jeff- but cannot believe this is his 2nd crash. I wear bright clothes, stop at intersections, stay WAY over, try to ride with people.... The Milwaukee area just loves the car- what a coincidence everbody's overweight. I so wish my kids could walk the 1/4 mile to their school every day and i've been told 'That's not allowed,'" because of the busy intersection nearby... Madison, Portland, ,,,,,,,wish we could be more like those cities. Prayers to Jeff especially; Lauren and their families.

My prayers go out to Jeff and Lauren.  I've met Jeff a few times at his shop and he's been a really great guy.

My sources say that he has a broken leg/ribs/etc, and severe head injuries...

I hate hearing about this happening over and over again.

Can you please keep us updated as to how he's doing? I can't stop thinking about him!

Just got this email from TriWi...

As many of you know, this morning Jeff Littmann, President of the WI Bicycle Federation and owner of Attitude Sports was severely injured when he was struck by a car while riding his bike.  Jeff is currently in ICU is critical condition.

Tonight is the Grand Open of Attitude Sports' new fitness center at their Pewaukee facility.  (203 W. Wisconsin Avenue, Pewaukee).  Jeff's family has asked that, if you are able, as a show of support, please stop by.  I realize this is very short notice, but, I just received the request.

Please keep Jeff Littmann and his family in your thoughts and prayers.

Thank you.

Prayers going out to Jeff and his family.

Just a clarification - he is President of the Wisconsin Cycling Association, not the Wisconsin Bike Federation

Found an update on Jeff through Slowtwitch forum. I'm heartbroken reading it.

http://forum.slowtwitch.com/Slowtwitch_Forums_C1/Triathlon_Forum_F1...

UPDATE:

I just returned from the hospital. It breaks my heart to say the prognosis is not good. I spoke at length with Jeff's brother, who was advised by the doctors that Jeff has quite a fight on his hands. Unfortunately, the head trauma is severe. If Jeff is able to pull through, he is expected to be severely physically limited due to the severity of the injuries, which may include a severed spin.

I spoke with Jeff's wife and told her about this thread. She wishes to express her deep gratitude and asks everyone to continue to pray.

Jeff is President of the WI Bicyclist Association. He is a vocal advocate for cycling rights and cycling safety. Jeff has been instrumental in the fairly recent passage of Wisconsin's "three feet passing law" and for the creation of many bike lanes.

Here is nice write up with comments from some of his friends:

UPDATE on Pro Triathlete Lauren Jensen (Sports Beans Tri Team):

I do not want to give too many details regarding the actual accident because an attorney has already been retained and the police are investigating the matter. What I can say is that Lauren was thrown into a ditch. She suffered multiple injuries, the most serious being a broken clavicle. Lauren is home resting and wishes for everyone to keep Jeff in their thoughts and prayers.

I was wondering if there was a way to mobilize a LARGE group of riders to show support for jeff.  Tomorrow AM would be a great day to do it.  Meet at the hospital in a parking lot - get the media, the police for an escort, have a prayer for his recovery, and ride out to Attitude in Pewaukee.  Details can be created throughout the day, but anythoughts on how to make this work.  there is enough outcry that this would be a great idea.  i have a few connections in the media - someone else probably has more, but what does everyone think?

Its pretty tough to get a police escort on such short notice.  I think I could probably make a few calls during the week and set something up if there is enough interest.  Any possibility you'd want to do this next weekend instead?   I know that time is of the essence, but knowing Jeff, he wouldn't want us to jeopardize our safety.

Let me know what you all want to do.  I have a motorcycle school in Madison all week and will be in contact with my connections at Waukesha Co sheriff's Dept. (motorcycle unit and Accident Reconstruction unit).  I also know the captain at Wauwatosa PD, who was an avid cyclist (and Pewaukee resident) would likely authorize his motors to assist at least to get out of Milwaukee County.

I would be in, was planning on riding downtown on the "roadie" to cheer on the folks doing Lakefront Mary tomorrow.

I would suggest somebody getting Joel A. from Tri-WI involved since I know he is a close friend of Jeff's and could rally the entire Tri-WI group via e-mail, etc.  I am sure you have contacts within the Gear Grinders that could scare up some riders.

It maybe short notice for this weekend, but we should be able to really big group for one day next weekend.

Let me know if you want any help after a day is decided on.

I'd be in as well and I could attempt to mobilize the UW-Cycling and Tri clubs as well. Might be difficult as a bunch of them are on a century today, but worth a go.

I have emailed Joel Aziere and will see what his thoughts are.  I think tomorrow would be best, but next weekend sounds like the more realistic opportunity.  10/10/10 at 10 has a nice ring to it.

I will keep everyone updated and then we can mobilize from there.

I could be in too depending on the when but I'm definitely interested!

It sounds like Jeff is in stable condition now as they were able to reduce some of the swelling. He is also off the respirator.
This is good news but I'm sure its a long road ahead.

It seems that Sat Oct 9th with a 8:30 am meet and 9am push off may end up being the ride.

If you have any ability to help organize/mobilize the appropriate people and organizaitons, please tell me what you can help with and the ball will roll

I can call the Waukesha Co Sheriffs department and request an escort from the county line to Pewaukee.  I'll email the lieutenant tonight and let you know if they can help us.
