DAWGS

Boogie and Beauregard , my hounds of mass destruction.

Boogie (as in full tilt Boogie) is the red one, she's a full blood Doberman.
Beauregard is Coon hound mix and thinks he is a lap dog most of the time.

Haven't taken them running yet as their leash manners pretty much suck.
A dawg whisperer is something I will never be

This is Rugby.  She was found stuck to a chain link fence in a snowstorm, the vet guesstimated that she had been in the elements for a week.  She wouldn't have lived even a few more hours when my wife found her.

She was 3.5 pounds when she was found, she topped out at 8 pounds.

Her paws were frostbitten, so Rugby can't run with me.  She hates water, so a swim buddy is out of the question.  But she would be really, really happy if I bought a handlebar basket and took her on my bike rides.

I would like to do the same to whoever abandoned her to suffer and die like that!

Thank goodness for folks like you and your wife. She is one lucky little dog!

Thats very sweet.  My guy on the right has a pretty tragic story and is still in recovery--quite shy to humans but the sweetest thing.  He was locked in a single crate with his 7 brothers and sisters as a puppy and left on a Saturday at 11pm at a shelter which didn't open until Monday morning.  Left out in freezing cold snow and rain, with no food or water in a single cage--4 of the puppies died and another had to be put to sleep but he survived.  These are the ones that need the most love

And in my experience, the ones that love the most .

It is incredible how they instinctively "know" they have been saved, they are the most grateful and loving of all.

What an awful situation,  but what a survivor you have there!

You are absolutly right about those needing the most love, and they sense that and reciprocate that love with total devotion to their owner.  I do volunteer work for the Humane Society and it is heartbreaking the cases that you see but so rewarding at the same time....

Great Thread JG, so far the best one of the year and it will be hard to top....It is great to see everyones family members, because thats what they are....

Aww.  Both beautiful, but the hound ears on the black one are georgous.

My running partner as a pup:

Then she grew up to be a runner herself. . .

She later became more serious though:

Dodger and Hoover 2 Halloweens ago.  Sadly we lost Dodger this past May.  She was almost 16 and was quite a character.  Hoover is just all sweetness and love.  Neither are/were good running partners.  Beagles go where they want not where I want.

walkabout - love the pictures of your ridgeback.  Does she lure course?

Here's my ridgeback Harper when she was a puppy (she still thinks she's a lap dog at 80+ pounds)

Now she just likes to hang out at the lake with her buddies (likes to run but horrible on a leash).  Rainey, the black dog, is a boxer/pit mix.

And finally my running partner (boxer/pit mix also) Marlo who thinks the more "bling" the better!!
