If I counted correctly, a 20 week training plan will start in 1 month on the week of November 13th.

I think I'm going to do a 12 week plan for this one.  I'm pretty sure I won't want to pick up another tri training plan that soon after IMFL (Nov 5).  I'll spend my "off" months running some 1/2 mary's and maybe a full or something. Honestly at this point in my plan I don't even like thinking about training anymore. Post IM I'll be fine, but it kind of sucks right now. I'll stick with sprints, olys, and HIM's after florida.

I am looking forward to those wonderful and, for me, painful Camp Pendleton hills. Hopefully we'll get that awesome headwind the last few miles of the bike again.

I'm getting ready to kick into gear!  All about those hills and time in the saddle for me!  I had some nutrition issues in the Full Vineman this year so Im going to focus on figuring the best course of action this time.  I'm using Hammer brand right now and so far so good....

Logged my first official ride toward Oceanside today.  I'm starting in good fitness, but may have to battle for motivation through the winter.  My bigger goal for the 2012 season is a KQ at Ironman Arizona, so everything I do will be to help get me there.

Yup, hopped back on teh bike for my 3X a week schedule, still making running the priority and won't swim for a couple more weeks.  Planning on starting "official" training 12/5 when I get back from MX

I started my the plan last Monday.  Using BT's 20 wk plan but making minor mods to it.  Focusing right now on swim and bike fitness and my calf is really tight for some reason.....think I will pick up the running come January.  I did the race in '09 as my first HIM and don't remember paying attention to other peoples equipment.  I have the ability to run a 1080/disc and am curious if the weight of the disc will kill me on the hills. Are their lots of disc's used in this race, I can't remember?

Thanks

With IM AZ 2011 done, this one is now officially in the cross-hairs (with the exception of run season - marathons in Jan & Feb).

Thanks for all the hill updates and guidance, it will definitely help to map out training rides to put in hill work, especially later in the ride to match Oceanside's course a bit.

Countdown is now underway.

I think we're in the same part of town. Let's ride sometime this winter.

-If you are in a later wave, it gets pretty crowded

I'm in the second to last wave, I hate that.

Thanks for the info.

I think the swim waves posted on the site are the 2011 ones. At least they are identical to the ones they had this past March. The new ones for 2012 should be up by early/mid March.

Happy training everyone!

It's getting cold.  I don't mind bundling up, but I wish it weren't so dark during all my training hours.

Subject: Bike and Race Gear Transportation

Contact Event Director, Andy Oros, for bike and race gear shipping coupons for Beginner Triathlete members @ (916) 778-7374.

www.racedaytransport.com

Some of the great Raceday Transport Options:

Fully Assembled Bike Transport—No disassembly required.  We prep and pad all delicate bike components and each bike is transported in its own padded bike rack.  We deliver your bike “Ready to Ride.”

Bike and Race Gear Transition Area Pick-Up—This is an option where we go in and collect the athlete’s bike and race gear from the transition area during the event.  It allows the athlete to finish their race and enjoy the event without the hassle of worrying about their equipment. Very popular.

Box and Ship to one of our Regional Locations—This is an option for athletes to box and ship their bikes to one of our Regional Locations (closest to the event).  We unbox and assemble your bike and then transport it fully assembled to the event.  After the event, we disassemble and pack your bike and then ship it off to your home.  This option does not include UPS or FedEx shipping charges.

Airport Shuttle Service For Box and Ship Customers—This is an option for athletes that cannot utilize our fully-assembled transport service but still provides an option to taxi their bike boxes from the host airport to their event.  Saves on extra-large rental cars or expensive taxis.  Reservations are required for this service.

VIP Program--Have friends or family joining you for this event?  Your team might be interested in our VIP program where we have athlete’s friends and family assist us in the booth.  After the event, we provide them with a $100 transport gift certificate.  All transport gift certificates are fully transferable so they can pass them on to anyone they like.  It’s a great way for friends and family to plug-in to the event and at the same time earn future transport coupons for themselves or others.  If interested, contact our Events Director, Andy Oros @ [email protected] for more details.

LaughingRaceday Loyalty Program
When you purchase two or more Raceday Transport services in a 12-month period, you will receive an additional $20 discount that can be combined with your Tri-Group savings, plus, space preference on a future race.

I haven't done much over the last five weeks but I started my training plan today and of course it is raining.  Don't mind swimming in the rain as long as there is no lightning, but I'm not really prepared to run in the rain.  None of my stuff is waterproof.  I'll run anyway since it's a short one.

FYI.....I hear the bike and run course may be altered a bit.  Anyone else hearing this?  The bike may be a point to point, and the run may end underneath the pier to allow better spectator access.  Either way, I hope we still get the Camp Pendleton hills.

I have heard the same thing about the point to point, and finishing under the pier, from a VERY reliable source.  I'm not sure if they are changing things up on Camp Pendleton part of the bike.  If I hear anything I will be sure to post.

Maybe I'm weird but I think that race directors should have a route selected before registration opens (and definitely before it sells out).  Also, if major changes are made they should let you withdrawal for a refund.

Yeah, there was a rumor posted in the Cal. board months ago, I posted over on ST but no one knew, although they said it used to end under the pier.

Not sure how they'd change the bike to a point to point....  the parking lot is pretty convenient for the race.  we'll see.  I don't think the changes will be major enough to warrant an outcry, I don't think there's enough room to make big changes in so cal.

I saw a recent email regarding this on the TCSD board.  I'll see if I can dig it up...

Okay.  Here it is:

Hi Everyone!

There may be a change to the bike course if we can do it to minimize the impact on certain areas of the base.  We will have two transitions this year so you will be riding to T2 that will be at Pacific and Mission.  The run will incorporate part of the pier and again be two loops.  You'll finish on the strand under the Pier just behind the amphitheatre so it will be more spectator friendly

I'm working on the maps but they probably won't be posted until after the new year

I watched the Super Sprint Grand Prix this year and I think I know what "part" of the pier they're going to be incorporating:

If the bike were an out and back on the Pendleton hills than we would only have to tie up one entry gate to the base instead of three.  And it would eliminating all that annoying easy stuff in first 20 miles, who wants that anyway?

At least we'd have a tailwind going in  :^

Pacific and Mission is where the expo is, this should be interesting to see how they do this.  At least the transitions aren't so far apart you'd have to drive them to set them up

Thanks!

For those of  us that are ignorant (pointing at myself), how different is the bike course than from in previous years?  I did the race in 2008 and thought the course was awesome.  That is why I'm coming back this year.

The bike course doesn't look all that different.  The only thing I see is that when we come back to the harbor, we make a left over the bridge and following the old run course, down Breakwater to the Strand, then up Surfrider to Pacific.  I'll try to attach the PDFs here.

Bah.  Wouldn't let me attach.  PDFs are over 100kb.  I can see the full image on the jpgs I posted (they were just screen shots of the PDFs), but the text in the bike course is a little small.  If you want, send me a PM and I'll email em.
