Mike, Thanks a ton! I stumbled across Bethany this morning through some google searches and it looks great. We want to rent a stand alone beach house, so seems like a perfect fit. Thank you again!

pauljra - 2011-12-17 8:36 AM Any recomendations on a beach town for us to rent a house the week following the race? (It was a tough sell, but got my wife to agree to the "race-cation") Looking for good eats and a laid back stay. Thanks a ton for any advice!

If you're looking for a traditional beach house, then probably in the Bethany, DE area.  They have a bunch of those mini-mansion types near the beach (sorta like the north end of the Outer Banks, though MUCH smaller area).  Ocean City MD is another option where you'd be renting a beach-front condo in a high rise, or renting a small townhouse a couple of blocks from the beach.

Both have their charms...we're doing the OC thing for a Sunday-Sunday rental the week after Eagleman.

I've never stayed in Bethany but if you want some OC info PM me and I'll give you more details.

 x2

Bethany Beach very nice small beach vacation area.  Very family oriented.  If you are looking for more nightlife, check out Rehoboth Beach.

Check out Dogfish Head for great beer!

You guys rock! Our son will be 1 in June, so definitely looking for the family deal.

Too funny regarding Dogfish, I had a 60 Minute IPA D.Fish last night! A visit there is a must.

Cheers, Paul

definitely just to experience the wind conditions but you cannot simulate the heat, which is the real challenge

There is no real advantage to riding this course before the race other than knowing where the turns are.  The course is dead flat and at times very windy.  It's also blazing hot and there is hardly any shade on the course.

If you have local roads where you can get rolling terrain and long windy stretches, get after it, stay aero as long as you can and make sure you get the miles in.  Ive heard many people experience their backs lock up as a result of the Eagleman ride.  The last 5-10 miles can be daunting but other than that its a very uneventful ride.

Only way I'd train on the course is if I could not get in a long 50-70 mile ride without stopping a lot.  Near me I have routes where I can go for almost 80 miles and stop maybe 1-2 times.

Man only 147 days left until race day.  I'm not counting or anything...but I am counting the days until this weather gets back to spring like temps.  The last two days have been really tough ones...

I hope everyone else is getting the work done.

I hear ya on the cold weather! This mornings temp was 4 degrees with a -10 wind chill in NH. Gotta love an 80 degree swing between now and race day!

I am looking forward to that 80 degree water too! The boiler broke in the pool so it is now officially "wet suit" legal.

So how is everyone's training going?

I managed to get in my first ever 60 minutes on the bike trainer on Saturday.  Thanks to watching the first half of a Harry Potter movie.

For me this is a tricky part of the season.  I'm always tempted to push harder for some reason in Jan/Feb when it really does not count as much. I need to check myself and make sure the efforts stay in the general aerobic range, for me, as I keep forgetting how long of a season it can be.  I'd like to start it and finish it without any injury again.

With that being said.  My training is already ahead of what I was doing last year....

Congrats on your first hour long trainer ride. My condolences as well.... ; )

I too jumped on the dreaded "drainer" this weekend for my longest trainer ride this year. Legs were fine, brain still fried from boredom.

I've been really focusing on the swim and started using the Triathletes Swim Binder a couple weeks ago. Really good purchase. It makes the workouts a lot more interesting and go by faster. Only issue is the volume is crazy high! My weekly volume is higher right now than it was when I was training for my full IMs..... Nuts.

Hope everyone else's training is going well.

I started my training the first of the year.  I am using the BT custom gold plan and I love it.  I have tailored it so the days of the week I am busier with work and kids are lighter and also perfect to make sure I don't have swims when my pool is closed on Wednesdays. I am always on the drainer in the winter and it can be painful.  I am a Spinervals fan and definitely get a more quality workout than when I am watching movies or TV.  I leave that for recovery rides.  I am doing run focused training this season and met with a new running coach over the weekend.  We did some great work and I hope it gets me out of the BOP and at least to the MOP.  My big thing is that I'm susceptible to burning out.  I hope it happens after the race.

I've read it can be pretty windy, what people have used for aero wheels in the past? Anyone have any issues with running a deep wheelset? Obviously a lot of variables, just curious if anyone had any major problems.
