Champion ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() lol, no, I just think it's really interesting, telling... I know men are under a great deal of pressure to NOT be "wussy" and cry-- and fatherhood seems to be a time when even the toughest, most stoic men, let their feelings out. There is an entire album that makes me cry: On a Winter's Night, 1990, Rounder Records. One song in particular seems fitting: "Words that Bring a Tear," Buskin and Batteau. will hunt for lyrics. also, Ani Di Franco, you had time (man, how excruciating is falling out of love...) how can i go home with nothing to say i know you're going to look at me that way and say what did you do out there and what did you decide you said you needed time and you had time you are a china shop and i am a bull you are really good food and i am full i guess everything is timing i guess everything's been said so i am coming home with an empty head you'll say did they love you or what i'll say they love what i do the only one who really loves me is you and you'll say girl did you kick some butt and i'll say i don't really remember but my fingers are sore and my voice is too you'll say it's really good to see you you'll say i missed you horribly you'll say let me carry that give that to me and you will take the heavy stuff and you will drive the car and i'll look out the window and make jokes about the way things are how can i go home with nothing to say i know you're going to look at me that way and say what did you do out there and what did you decide you said you needed time and you had time |

For me, it's because I absolutely cherish the relationship I have with my father, and the thought of not having that as such a large part of my life truly saddens me. -C |

Champion ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Kathy Mattea: Where've you been? (not sure if she wrote it, though, but she recorded it and I SOB when it comes on the radio: Claire had all but given up When she and Edwin fell in love She touched his face and shook her head In disbelief she sighed and said In many dreams I've held you near Now at last you're really here Chorus Where have you been? I've looked for you for ever and a day Where have you been? I'm just not myself when you're away He asked her for her hand for life Then she became a salesman's wife He was home each night by 8 But one stormy evening he was late Her frightened tears fell to the floor Until his key turned in the door Chorus They'd never spent a night apart For 60 yrs she heard him snore Now they're in a hospital In seperate beds on different floors Claire soon lost her memory, forgot the names of family She never spoke a word again Then one day they wheeled him in He held her hand and stroked her hair In a fragile voice she said Chorus Where have you been Ive searched for you forever and a day Where have you been Im just not myself when your away Im just not myself when your away |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Oh, Possum ... 'You Had Time' does it to me everytime. So does her live version of 'Overlap'. {shudder} Others... Fire and Rain, yes, Aimee Man's 'Wise Up'. Ugh ... I am sure there are more that I will think of... oh! Sarah Mch. almost entire album "Fumbling Towards Ecstasy' will do the trick, in specific the song 'Plenty'. Landslide will do it too, although I have a general theory that if you get to a place in your life where you can personally relate to Stevie Nicks, well, it's time to seek therapy, so I try no to listen to it too much |

Champion ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() oh! Pippen! That's another that does me in! (same family as Where've you been, which, I just noticed when I cut and pasted, has grammar mistakes that also make me want to cry) and Patty Griffin's Long Ride Home. Losing the love of your life sucks, but when it's due to death and you're old... omigosh please let me die first. And can you imagine your love dying and inly then, after s/he is gone, understanding what it means to love? ugh, I am getting gushy at work! "Long Ride Home" Long black limousine Shiniest car I've ever seen The back seat is nice and clean She rides as quiet as a dream Someone dug a hole six long feet in the ground I said goodbye to you and I threw my roses down Ain't nothing left at all in the end of being proud With me riding in this car, and you flying through the clouds I've had some time to think about you And watch the sun set like a stone I've had some time to think about you On the long ride home One day I took your tiny hand Put your finger in the wedding band Your daddy gave a piece of land We laid ourselves the best of plans Forty years go by with someone laying in your bed Forty years of things you say you wish you'd never said How hard would it have been to say some kinder words instead I wonder as I stare up at the sky turning red I've had some time to think about you And watch the sun set like a stone I've had some time to think about you On the long ride home Headlights staring at the driveway The house is dark as it can be I go inside and all is silent It seems as empty as the inside of me I've had some time to think about you And watch the sun set like a stone I've had some time to think about you On the long, on the long Oh the long, on the long On the long ride home |
