Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Uggghhh!!! As a Broncos fan, yesterdays game was absolutely painful to watch. Gotta give serious credit to the Steelers though. They were flawless and absolutely dismantled Denver on both sides of the ball. As for the Superbowl... You ever see what happens when a bus hits a hawk? |

Veteran![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() ***Rant On*** I just want this game to be over so all these crazy people will go home and let Detroit go back to normal. I am so tired of hearing about the traffic, the pre-game parties, the weather, the celebrities, etc. - and I am especially sick of hearing about how wonderful Detroit is. You can put lipstick on a pig and it is still a pig. Whew! I feel better now. ***Rant Off*** |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Aiy-yi-yi that was an ugly win. Not at all the kind of game I was anticipating. Except for the gadget plays; that I was expecting. ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Congrats Steelers fans. Close one. I think Seattle was the better team for 3 quarters of the game. I question the first "touchdown" by Pittsburg - I don't think any part of the ball crossed the line. And Seattles first touchdown which was ruled a penalty for pushing off was a pretty soft call. Coulda gone Seahawks way. |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Well, the Steelers really HAD to win the Super Bowl, considering how many terrible calls went in their favor. Let's see, we have the 6 points awarded to Roethlisberger for NOT crossing the goal line, the false holding call when the Seahawks passed to the 1-yard-line, and the penalty against Hasselbeck for, God forbid, tackling the ball carrier. Those three errors alone led to a 21-point swing. So, it looks like if the officials were following the rules of football the outcome would have been entirely different. |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Of COURSE the Steelers won. You don't all think the officials (i.e. the NFL) were going to let Seattle win after the huge build-up for the Steelers the last two weeks did you? Seattle didn't play very well, and a lot of credit for that goes to the Steelers, but geez, when you have to play against the other team AND the zebras it's pretty difficult. |

Pro ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Being a fan of neither for this game, i have to agree that Seattle got the major shaft. At least 4 major calls, 3 of them resulting in lost points for Seattle. One of the worst Super Bowls I've watch. Steelers played a horrible game to win, and the better team got screwed by officiating (well, when they weren't screwing themselves with some of the worst time management I've seen in Pro football.) Congrats Steelers, glad the bus got a ring. |

Elite ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I'll pile on. I was pretty neutral... no real investment in either team, I just wanted a good game and some good commercials and got neither (except there were a few Bud Light commercials that I thought were pretty funny). I just want to see if Joey Porter will make a public statement thanking the refs for helping them out after they tried to take the game away. It was just terrible... by the end I was half expecting the ref's not to overturn Hasselbeck's fumble because he "wasn't down all the way" or something to that effect. You can't take it all away from the Steelers... Jeremey Stevens, for all his smack talk had 3-4 dropped passes, including a big one. And the kicker could have given them 6 more points to make it interesting at the end (although his team coulda helped him out with one by running an extra play and getting him a few yards closer at the end of the half). All-in-all I hacked... no more football for almost 6 months... I'm already counting down to the draft. bts |

Pro ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I dont see what the big fuss is about the 1st TD or the one called back for the Seahawk. Big Ben had forward momentum before the hit and ball slipped back. It was close, but some of you act like there was no possible way it was a TD. Replay couldnt overturn it and if you analyzed it again and again, you would likely not be able to show that the ball did not cross the plane of the endzone. One Seahawks TD called back, the receivers arm was fully extended and pushing off. Maybe not the worst ever, but to say there was nothing there is kinda silly. I dont get it with the 'Seattle played the better game' crap either. For some reason the commentators were on this bandwagon too. Big plays win games and Pittsburgh made more of them. Did the refs miss those field goals or let the clock run down at the end of the 1st half? For the record, I am a life long Packer fan. I just tuned in to see a decent game. Overall thought it was so so on the Super Bowl scale (though I did miss the fourth quarter). |

I think the overall feeling is that the ref's shouldn't be nearly that visible in the games... and you left off another shady holding call that would have given the Seahawks the ball on the Steeler 1... and then a couple plays later an interception and a bogus low block call to give the Steelers the ball at mid-field, setting up the now famous reverse-option pass... c'mon. I'm not saying the outcome would have been different, I'm saying I don't like to be talking about the zebra's the day after the game. bts |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Seattle also took a LOT of stupid penalties at key times. And most of these were not disputable. Between the penalties, poor time management, and the missed field goals, Seattle beat themselves. |

![]() | ![]() Well, here in Philly we now understand why Eagles coach Andy Reid's hurry up offense play calling was so bad last Super Bowl. It's because Andy learned it from Mike Holmgren when Reid was Holmgren's quarterback coach when they were in Greenbay. Wow, were Holmgren's calls at the end of the half and the end of the game weird or what. Seattle definitely had a TD taken away from them, but they had plenty of opportunity to recover from that. I think the better team won, but neither of them brought their A game. My favorite play: The flee flicker with Randle El throwing a TD to Hines Ward. Very cool. |

Mike Sherman was terrible with the clock in the instances where the Pack actually had a shot at a W this year. It is a more laid back way of life up there as four years of college in good ol DePere (just outside of GB) taught me. |

Then why are people who picked the steelers saying Seattle was the better team and the officiating was horrible. http://msn.foxsports.com/nfl/story/5310192 Good read. P.S. Again, I like both teams, but I love how we can never believe our own team can do wrong. Ahh sports. |

![]() | ![]() bradword - So jszat...the officiating wasn't that bad? Then why are people who picked the steelers saying Seattle was the better team and the officiating was horrible. 'Cause it makes for a good story? Yea, the calls went against Seattle. But so what. It's part of the game (and no, the officials did not throw the game in favor of the Steelers on purpose). Seattle had every opportunity to put the Steelers away and they didn't. Was there holding on that long Seattle drive? Maybe yes, maybe no. But on one of the next plays they leave the saftey completly free to come in and sack Hasselback. Twernt no problems with the officials on that play. Advice to Seattle fans from a suffering Philadelphia sports fan. Don't blame the officials, blame your team and your coaches, it's a lot more fun. |

Again, I like both teams, but I love how we can never believe our own team can do wrong. Ahh sports. So this one writer is the "people"? You have to be kidding me on the called back TD all the sportscasters were calling tic tacky- the dudes arm was fully extended. Better teams win games. If Seattle is the better team, they will come back hungry and win it all next year. The argument is so one sided on the officiating cuz the folks that are not pissing and moaning about it are sleeping off hangovers. Writing about "the officiating wasnt that bad" doesnt rally in I told you so's to buy papers etc. I always thought that the chink in the armor of Seattle is that they could have used a little more toughness. If they are going to act like victims and not look at flaws in execution, well, they will be lucky to make it back to the big one. What about the non-fumble that the Steelers could have picked up? Looked like dude made a football move before getting clocked. Just sayin'. I apologize if I am ranting but the whole blame the umps thing stinks. Yeah, it does happen but I disagree that anything out there was worthy of this much criticism. |

Pro ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() One other quick note- I will admit that the Steelers secondary was getting sliced and diced in the first half BUT- redzone execution on both sides of the ball is what will win and lose you games. To pile up more yards, etc, etc doesnt mean anything if you cant execute when it matters. |

Regular![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() As a lifelong Seattle sport's fan this was a hard game to stomach. I'm not going to say that they 'hawks played stellar ball, but they definitely played better than the score reflected. All the hype about Porter, Bettis & Polomalu.. who? they were names not mentioned.. although Polomalu was mentioned only because he got faked out a couple times. Granted Stevens blew it a number of times, and then Manual's back up sucked.. so it wasn't top 'hawk ball... but I agree w/ the other posters that the officiating should not be the focus after the biggest game of the year.. It was like watching the NBA where the veterans and stars get all the calls.. the Steelers got the calls, everything seemed to go in their favor b/c it was basically a home game for them.. Maybe the officials saw the proliferance of 'terrible towels' and forgot they were in Detroit...maybe the 'hawks could have won, maybe they couldn't have.. we'll never know b/c they were knocked down at every opportunity.. A game that could have been exciting and fun to watch no matter who won, turned out to be boring and flat due to the officiating.. the 'hawks will be back next year!! |
