Without quoting three different posts, I'll simply say that you're off base Gullah.  I've explained why I used the example that I did, and it had nothing to do with a political argument.

It's like pressing a freaking button when you mention a name or topic, and people just go off regardless of the actual conversation at hand or point being made.  And that goes for both sides of the political spectrum.

No way buddy, it's my base and I'll say when I'm off of it. Now, off my rocker...yes, but off base ...no. Derek I'm saying that you can't accuse one and not the other and then claim to be impartial or fair handed.
It's easy, be of sound character, and then compare them all to your standard. Make no exceptions for political affiliation. In that way you can discern a greater portion of the truth.

As examples...Clinton was an adulterer, so was Bush senior. W's an alcoholic. We wouldn't let an alcoholic run our kids daycare but we'll elect one POTUS. Teddy was an irresponsible drunk whose actions killed a young woman. Laura Bush was a fast driving party girl whose actions killed a young man. Hillary's a  .... well I can't compare that to anyone right off but give me a while.

You've explained it, DerekL. But that doesn't mean we believe your motives. It's a little too convenient that is always the reason I hear, though I do compliment you on pulling it off so well. That's basically how the Republican party has won the last two elections, so you have good company. But hell, I'm conservative and I'M getting tired of the "look what Clinton did" card. Republicans were disgusted by what President Clinton and Senator Kennedy did...using them as standards doesn't cut it.

A major reason I feel it should be news...is because how do we know there was no crime if it isn't investigated? I'm ambivalent about it taking a while, but if it had been successfully kept completely quiet (or even attempted), I'd hope that would bother everyone.

You need to petition Ron to change your title from 'Elite Veteran' to 'Elite Cracker'.  Just 'cause.

Just read a report that says Cheyney is praying for his victim, as we all should be doing. I would also imagine that the VP has been concerned and praying for his friend since this happened. Why he didn't come out in this manner sooner only Rove could know.

The party of self responsibility sure spends a lot of time ducking answers and blaming others. They always come off better when they stop the charades and simply respond as adults. Looking forward to the day when Helen Thomas kicks Scott McClellan's fat ass.

Lets all hope this gent recovers, returns to his family, and the VP gets off his own petard and comes off as the concerned friend .

And where the hell is Matt Drudge, or that drug addled gas bag Limbaugh. They were all over the personal tragedy that was Vince Foster's suicide. Where are they now with their accusations and inuendo. Hiding out like the rats they truly are and have always been.

Just my opinion, I could be wrong.

Ah yes, name-calling, a sure sign of an even tempered sharing of thoughts betwixt sides of differing views.  Did you even go to drudgereport.com before posting that?  It has been and continues to be one of the top stories on the site all day today.  Including a link to an article where he could face charges if the man dies (he had a heart attack and was is back in intensive care, this was also linked on the website).  By all means, blast away, but at least check your sources...

It was meant to be sweeping and an exaggeration. This whole party this is just silly. Yes I have personally been there, saying this is right or that just because thats what my dad said back in the day. I've gone from Republician to agreeing with the general republician point of view, but not agreeing with things. And thinking all* politicians are scum.

I think that everybody is glad to see the wounded party is doing pretty good considering.

I am just suprised that nobody has brought up Gun control yet. If we can't trust the VP with one, who can we trust with guns. Them things are dangerous.

Heh.  Okay.

I'm registered as  Dem, but I despise politicians from both parties who play partisan politics.  One of the few people I respect in gov't is McCain.

I think a two party system sucks.  It only encourages the two parties to work against each other to try to gain the majority.  If we had say 3 strong parties, it would force cooperation between parties, rather than the brinksmanship currently borne out.  But that's just my opinion.  I'm open to other ideas on how to resolve the polarization of US politics, but the cynic in me only sees it getting worse.  :\

If it weren't for the press, we'd just get white-washed misinformation; we'd only hear about what they wanted us to hear about.

Posting a link to TIME and then writing this is just about the funniest thing I've ever seen!  At least it would be funny if it wasn't so sad.

There was no name calling. I simply stated a known fact. Limbaugh is a drug addled gas bag. and as I asked "where is Drudge?" well you answered that. Without reading Drudge's report has he accused Cheyney of anything or of acting with malice? You know, the sort of things he accused the Clinton's of when a friend of theirs committed suicide.

btw I did say it was just my opinion, I could be wrong..... not likely, but could be. (tic)

What i find amusing about politics is most americans really have no idea about what they are voting on etc (including myself) We only hear what the news, talk show hosts, politicians or my favorite source Jon Stuart tells us.

93% of people in the US are uninformed about polictics.

P.S. 73.2% of all statistics are made up on the spot.

Heard about a bumper sticker this morning:  "I'd rather go hunting with Cheney than for a drive with Kennedy"

How is it  you folks can remember the fatal wreck T. Kennedy had but never mention Laura Bush's hit and run deadly accident. They were both accidents but it's so convenient to forget that which doesn't support our arguments.

How the **** did I end up as "you folks"  What party am I in?  Man, you guys take this **** way too seriously, and get way too personal.

And I still don't see what is being covered up.

No personal attack here my friend. A personal attack would be , "you suck and your mother dresses you funny", And I would never say that about you or anyone else. I don't know what party your in but you entered this thread with a comment about T Kennedy and I simply offerred an opposing viewpoint. And what did I say was covered up?

Isn't that the point of a cover up?

BUt really, I don't think anything is really being covered up. But the manner in which they handled this and other events makes it *seem* like they have something to hide.

I think this is why the press is reacting so strongly to this event: they are sick and tired of the White House withholding information from them.

I was actually refering to the line...

the rats they truly are and have always been

when I was talking about the name calling.  And is it really so wrong to expect there to be some right-leaning and some left-leaning journalists.  It's just a fact of life.  There are plenty of journalists trashing the Bush administration.  So what if a few don't.  When the pendulum swings the other way the right-leaner will be ready to trash the administration and the leftists will be there to say it's not as bad as Bush.
