Pro 5123 Canandaigua NY | Subject: RE: Musselman Half-Iron Triathlon : Official Thread LarchmontTri - 2012-06-07 4:33 PM Hey all - quick question. What's the temperature of the lake? I know we have a few weeks until the big day so the water can soak up more sun, but am just wondering. Thanks. I believe it is probably in the low 60's now based on what Keuka was last weekend, but unless there is an unseasonably cool June (which it has been) and July it will safely be in the low 70's by then, maybe even a bit warmer. The canal will be a few degrees warmer than that. |

Just wanted to know if any of you could help out as we wait around on Saturday? I am on bike duty out on the course. As soon as I am done there I will hurry over and help with the 2nd half of the run. Edited by kenj 2012-06-07 5:22 PM |

Regular 138 Pittsburgh | Subject: RE: Musselman Half-Iron Triathlon : Official Thread Hi everyone! I'm getting excited to race! This will be my first Half...I'm getting nervous! I've heard such great things about this race so I'm really looking forward to it. I'm from Pittsburgh and so pretty much all I know are HILLS. Just did an Olympic yesterday with 1400 feet of elevation on the bike and 375 on the run. I'm definitely looking forward to a flatter bike for a change...and actually getting some use out of my aero bars! Good luck everyone! Just another week of hard work and then a little taper for me |

Master 1848 Canandaigua | Subject: RE: Musselman Half-Iron Triathlon : Official Thread Hi kids, Rode the course Sunday. Hot and windy but that is nothing new. The glass fairy was along Rt 96 with little pieces glass all over not to bad and no major spots just like it lightly sprinkled for the first 5 miles. Couple pieces of bad pavement on 96 south right around the underpass and in the one where the railroad bridge is gone keep your head up. The section of 96/414 from Ovid to the split of 414 and 96 is being repaved but Jeff said it was to be done by the race. That will be nice not to have to worry about the long cracks that were there. First mile or so of Ogden road must have been oil/graveled last year and is a little bumpy. Be careful dropping down to Cayuga Lake just before the final hill there are a couple new pot holes. One in the middle of the lane. There is a dip further down 89 by the lake that is in the shadows you need to watch for divot in the pavement. Cty Rd 120 to Hayt Corners has been repaved. Nice. Sampson park has another year of bump in it. There is still a wooden section of bridge before that. The cuts that have been there at the end have some pavement across them usually towards the right. PS they forgot again this year to flatten out the hill next to the Amish Shop.

Member 763 | Subject: RE: Musselman Half-Iron Triathlon : Official Thread Thanks for the bike course report. That's really helpful. Hopefully we'll have tailwinds the entire way! But I'll settle for it not being as hot as it was last year. See y'all in 11 days. |

What hill? The course seems pretty flat compared to everywhere I train

Thanks. James, I am not sure that they have the course available but if you are looking for a place to get some open water time and you find that the course is not available you can go west about 17 miles to Canandaigua. Turn left at the Burger King and the park is about a 1/4 mile ahead. You will see the bath house over towards the right with parking along the road. There is a masters group that swims there every Friday night during the summer from about 5 till almost dark. The swim is a bouy line that is about a mile out and back. Nice lake, you can stand the entire distance if you need to. Tell the person at the bath house that you are swimming with the masters and they will let you in no charge. Not an organized masters program in the sense that they have a prescribed workout or anything and there are plenty of individuals and teams that show up as well. ETA: West from Geneva on Routes 5 & 20. Edited by kenj 2012-07-11 9:09 AM |
