I am old enough to at least remember the FOL, but never really watched it.  So I think if you're much younger than me (33), it may be a non-event.  Some of these kids probably won't even KNOW there was a show called FOL.  Many of them are in their 20's!  It will be interesting to see if she just up and fesses her profession or tries to hide it.

Oh, good point. I assumed everyone would know, but you're right.

The thing is though, it only takes ONE person to recognize her and then everyone will know...whether they saw the show or not! :D

I just know I probably would NOT have recognized her (or the baseball player!) if I hadn't been told!

She hasn't done much if any acting since FOL so I'm not so sure she's loaded like Jimmy Johnson was.

Then again I don't think your income level should determine who wins.  Whoever played the best game should win regardless of your tax returns.

Yeah, usually the desire to get rid of celebrities is mostly to do with "what do they need the money for?"   If it comes up she would be smart to describe her life now and put herself forward as just a regular person (true or not.)

I would definitely be the type who doesn't want a rich person to play.  I'm not saying I am right or wrong, but if it came up my gut reaction is that they shouldn't be involved.

I liked it better generally when it was just a bunch of regular people.  No former beauty pageant winners (well, big ones anyway), sports stars, etc.    I see I see Survivor as a change for "regular people."

And I will x-millionth the sentiment that I am glad Colton is not back.  Ish.   I am not sure why that article says all three returning people come from season 6, because that's not true.  They were on different shows.   I missed a bunch of seasons and the only one I saw was when Russell was taken out.

They were all eliminated on EPISODE 6 of their own respective seasons...a coincidence!

I agree with the regular people.  I know CBS tries to cast a bunch of "types" to create drama...but SERIOUSLY...you could pick 16 random people off the STREET and you'll get drama in a situation like this.  That's why it works!

I am not a huge fan of famous people playing...BUT...famous people are people too...they may be famous, but maybe their real lifetime dream was playing on Survivor...I don't think most of them are there for the wrong reasons...

AND..... less fortunate types do not do any better because everyone is scared of the sympathy vote. I mean if we are going to vote based on how well off someone is, then all those that really NEED it should be shoe ins.... but they are not. And it is a problem... if everything comes out even, then people love doing something nice... I do not want that guy sitting next to me at the jury vote that just lost everything... not in a game I don't. He can still win the $100K.

I disagree with the bolded statement.  You need very outgoing A-Type personalities for a show like this to be interesting.  If it were just a bunch of B-type laid back it would be boring as he!! and there have been a couple of seasons like that.  Or even when there is only one or two leader types and the rest are just riding coattails.  Very boring.  Look at Boston Robs last season.  He ran it great but he was handed a bunch of followers who were they to be on TV not win.

The producers try to cast different types of people to target certain demographics in America.  That is why there is always the old lady, who usually goes out first, the hick, the person who is average joe,  then all the hotties on both sides for eye candy.

Think Lord of the Flies.  Any random group of people is going to have a large distribution of personalities.  It's probably actually BETTER than CBS's attempt to cast "characters".  People can be whatever they want to be in an interview...you are less likely to get good people that way!

Bumping this back to the first page!  Less than a week to the premiere, right???? :D

I wonder what Probst will do this round...Tout? Tweet? Something else?  He usually likes to do some kind of live social media thing during episodes...if he's not off filming the next round.

Wow her imdb page. Nothing since 2001 - which was a FOL reunion. The onlt other thing was 1992 movie "Where the Red Fern grows:Part Two."

Totally forgot she was on a few episodes of Different Sttrokes.

I wish Survivor had cast Jo instead. I was way more of a Jo fan Wink

A little sad to see Zane go, but he was kinda an idiot...went out too hard.

Like Denise a lot...as predicted, the therapist in her is a benefit.

Russell Russell Russell....

Didn't realize Skupin was such a clutz.

I like Malcolm.

Everyone else is kinda "meh".

Find it hilarious that the "older" Skupin is the only person that recognized Lisa.  Funny.

I hope the baseball player's knee is OK...hate to see anyone go out for injury.

That is all for now...if I think of anything else I'll post again. :D

Zane was just a little too dumb.

Still early and don't know everyone but Lisa (Blair) does not understand the social aspect of the game.  Seems like she is not part of the tribe so will be an early pick to go as soon as yellow loses.

I always liked Penner so I hope he makes it for awhile.

Malcolm = HOT

I'm rooting for Skupa (sp.?), Jeff Kent, Angie, and the psychologist seems pretty cool...Malcolm's a smart cookie so far too.

btw, if Kent and Whelchel really didn't want to be recognized, don't ya think Kent would have shaved his trademark stache and Whelchel would have toned down the blonde?  Just sayin'.

btw, the investment banker seems like a smart cookie too.

Zane was a moron, I really wanted Russel to go, but Zane blew it with his big mouth and practically BEGGING to be sent home.

Careful what you wish for, it may come true.

I do hope they lose the next one and Russel goes, though. He's not doing himself any favors so far.

Zane is an idiot.  I was hoping that Russell went out.  I didn't like him before and I don't like him now.  Just an overbearing d-bag of a personality.  Malcom has skills and if everything lines up he can go far.   I feel bad for Lisa Welchel, she is on the wrong tribe with the "skanks" I mean young girls.  I like Penner, he is one of my favorites, but he needs to bond with his tribe.   Being a returning Survivor paints a  bullseye on your back and he needs to win them over.  So far i like Jeff Kent.  I'm not a huge MLB fan so I didn't know him from baseball.  Seems pretty tough to battle through the knee pain.

I don't like the three tribe format.  The tribes are too small so there is no real competing alliances within the tribe you are in or out, kind of like Christina last season.  So far so good and Zane will probably go down as the dumbest Survivor next to the "ice cream man" in fans vs favorites for his move.

Zane pretty much proved the obvious: a strategy where you ask to be voted off will result in....you getting voted off.  Moron.

Now had he gone to the rest of the tribe & played it like he was just saying that to set Russel up for the blind-side, maybe that would've made more sense.

He was just to much of a loose cannon.  I realize you have to play starting day one but this was dumb.   He was either going to be a genius or a moron and he is a moron.

investment banker = smart girl. should go along way. But lying and saying you are an Exec. Asst. because Bankers have a bad name or whatever it was she said??? Not sure where she was going with that. Maybe if she was a LAWYER.

Angie the yound blonde is cute. But she looks about 14. I like her. But when she said the thing about being competitve because I was Miss Teen Utah. huh?

Edit: I looked at some of the bios.

Katie's Occupation = Former Miss Delaware.

I'm not terribly fond of the three tribe format either, but you have to admit, they were stuck.  They had three returning players so they had to have three tribes.  I doubt the three tribes will last more than an episode or two.  Usually when they have 3-4 tribes they do a swap into two after the second or third tribal.  Way too easy for one tribe to get wiped out quickly if they stay with the small tribes too long.

I actually like when the initial tribe division is player-done.  Somehow it feels like Survivor stacks the teams when they do the division prior to any player intervention.  I know they probably even it out in terms of male/female young/old type stuff, but somehow the schoolyard pick just seems more fair...like the entire game is random and in the players hands.  As a player it would make me somewhat feel like I at least picked my team and so if they stink I can't blame getting put onto a bad team.

Does that make sense?

Did they used to let teams pick?  I missed a bunch of season in the middle, so I didn't see that/or remember it.  It sounds interesting. I often think the teams are unfair to begin with, so that would be a cool twist.

I like/dislike the same people you guys do.

I liked something about how the filmed it, more than usual. I can't put my finger on it, but it felt more exciting.  The scenery is very pretty, too, they have nice water for bathing.

They mix it up.  I have definitely seen a school yard pick start the game...Gabon comes to mind.  That one was DEFINITELY a school yard pick and I know they have done it a few times.  Gabon is the only one I am coming up with off the top of my head though.

Ya, not much to add to Zane... what a moron. His strategy is to secure his exit... then go around and work at reversing what he did??? Ya, genius move there. It always cracks me up... the one that thinks he is in complete control is usually the next to leave. Yes, there is a lesson there. I can't comprehend how he could think he could scramble around and talk to EVERYONE, and then think he is in control. Did you really think it was going to be THAT easy?

Not much on others... the therapist is good and the pony tail guy... yes too lazy to look them up.... he seems really good at this and makes good observations.

OK, Russel... same, I didn't like him before and still don't. He is so egotistical. He was first time too, but he was with other ego maniacs fighting for control. Next to them he looked like a weak leader. But you come in with a game plan, and then fail at it so miserably. I mean he didn't just not accomplish his goal of not taking the leader roll... he went out of his way to do everything he could to establish it. Amazing. And yes, his failure was so complete and irritating he was a sure thing to go day one... and the only thing that saved him was probably one of the most idiotic game plays ever by Zane. I guess real life is true in the game of Survivor... you do not have to be the best player, just a little better than the worst.

Personally, I like the 3 tribe format. You know it can't last long because if one tribe looses twice they are down to 3. Obviously the production crew has backups and things will be shaking up soon. Survivor never fails to try to change things up and keep contestants guessing. Yes there is a general format to how to play the game, but Survivor tries to keep it interesting and I think they do a great job of it.... my point is that I am sick of the "alliance of 5" from day one and cliquing up and riding it out. The more they switch it up, the greater the chance of new alliances and the weak having a chance over the strong.

I blame Richard Hatch for the whole "alliance" thing. I wonder if it weren't for him using that term so much in the very first season if it wouldn't have taken longer for the alliance game to be so much a part of the strategy.

I have no idea what the true answer is to that question.... but cliquing up is common in every walk of life and a pretty dominate social strategy. I don't know when, but I can't see how it could be avoided.

I mean just the "tribe" thing itself is going to make it happen. Interesting in that in real life you do not "vote out" a weak member of a tribe...they just don't get much. So it is set up to be a social game to begin with, with the opposing delima of being the last one standing. Even as far back as WAY back... the enemy of my enemy is my friend... people will work together if it advances their position.
