I don't understand why Ron Paul didn't do better in the primaries. He is fiscally conservative, socially liberal (leave it up to the states) and he has the experience and he is the only guy who actually had a plan. But he went nowhere in the primaries.

Perhaps everyone votes on emotion? It sure doesn't appear that anyone voted based on the economy, I guess it didn't get bad enough.

I knew my vote would be "wasted" but voted for Johnson anyway.
I wonder what the numbers would look like if EVERYONE voted for who they actually wanted to win?

I'm not ready to become a "member" of the Libertarian party (I'm registered Independent) but they've certainly caught my eye this time around.

I wonder what the numbers would be if everybody voted; if every eligible person registered, and every registered voter voted.

Because he did not pander to the base.  Sadly you have to be ULTRA right to win the republican nomination.

I sure hope that changes... "the base" needs to get their noses out of social issues instead of fueling the bus that is taking us off the cliff.

He wants to end the wars, bring every single American soldier home, and shut down all of the overseas bases.  That alone makes him unelectable in the primaries.  Plus Fox News hates him.

Ron Paul 2016! However he is getting rather old and I don't see any good like options waiting in the wings.Does anyone have a link to Johnson's numbers? The networks are obviously giving up nothing on that end.

He is our last hope.

No, there is another.

Sen. Rand Paul.  And yes, I'm an enormous Star Wars geek.

I think you answered your own question.  The Conservative end of the party wants pro life, anti gay marriage, anti illegal-immigration, anti drug candidates.

It was something around 1.2% I think. Not very good.

http://www.politico.com/2012-election/map/#/President/2012/

scroll over each state for vote totals.

Johnson got 3.5% in MN, and almost 3% in Montana

Romney was a moderate, so was McCain, and both were beaten by an ULTRA leftist.  It seems to me that people vote for their own personal interest instead of what is best for the nation as a whole, which is why we are in the fiscal crapper with no hope of ANYONE in Washington doing what it will be necessary to fix it.

Romney was a fiscal liberal and a social conservative from everything I can tell.  He was just not quite as fiscally liberal as Obama.

I should correct what I said before...

"Sadly you have to appear to be ULTRA right to win the republican nomination."

After that you can go back to being moderate.  I think it's no different on the left.

Considering he only pulled 1% of the vote I'd say no.  As someone earlier in this thread said a 3rd party candidate would need to be independently wealthy to get the media buys required to run for president.

Yes, but the Liberaterians only got 0.3% in 2004 and 0.4% in 2008.  Momentum?

At that rate, they have a legitimate shot by around 2036.

No Obama fan here... but ULTRA leftist he is not.

As best as could be done, the mission was accomplished...perhaps a small step, but a step none-the-less.  I don't consider my vote wasted at all.  It did not go to one of two candidates I was unhappy with.  Wink

First year voting Libertarian.

I just feel sorry for my son for asking which one I was voting for... Libertarianism is a little above 1st grade social studies.
