It was always a bit of a tradition in my family anyway... well, cases of beer to the local fire station in the lead up to Christmas, just to let them know they were appreciated! Don't be knocking on the private planes! Those planes keep my city alive. Literally. For the record I always thought the turkey/ham thing was strange. One place I worked, they gave grocery store vouchers for them (but not a gift card, you had to use them on a turkey), and then 10 minutes later walked around asking people to donate them to the shelter. I don't agree with that "donation" thing....unless your an exec or someone who doesn't need it. Our employees, the majority, are low income blue collar workers. They are machine operators and forklift drivers. We actually pay above the "area standard" and do a lot for the employees. We have an on-site clinic staffed with a PA for them and their families (free), we feed them a lot (pizza, catered BBQ) at least once a quarter, give out cash awards, give out gas cards once a year, give out zero interest 'hardship loans', and have a nice wellness program...... And free turkeys and hams. |

He had a lot of cool things to say and funny stories. One was that he was flying in Texas one time and the pilot came-on and said "Well, looks like we got an engine that ain't workin, so we're gonna pull-in to this little airport here and git er fixed." Bob said he turned to all these freaked-out passengers and said "This is a once in a lifetime opportunity! When the inflatable slides come-out after we land, DO A CANNONBALL!!!" Pretty funny stuff.
