It may not work for you or you could be doing any and all of the things but I'll mention anyway. 1. Shoes. All shoes. Work shoes, running shoes, sandals. everything. I personally think a lot of mine was caused by boots during the winter and then some of my sandals. I did away with any shoe that seemed to cause pain and only wore ones that conformed to my feet. I probably should buy some inserts but I haven't done yet. 2. Taping the foot. I really thought it was voodooish but I saw a posting about taping feet from someone I respected. I tried it and it really seems to help. You can google it. In short, it's taking sports tape and running two strips length wise from base of toe to just up past the heel - no pressure on the tape. Then one piece of tape horizontally just under the toes - no pressure. Three more pieces going horizontally while you move down the foot - slight pressure. I still do this sometimes when running if I find that the PF is coming back. 3. Marble pickup. To me this seemed stupid but it worked. I did about 50 marbles - 3 times a day. Some people do the towel crunch too but I didn't. 4. What I call the Strauberg stretch. (There is a Strausberg sock but I never bought). Take a rope and loop around the top of your feet and pull back toward you. To me it felt good. I did a lot when watching tv at the end of the day. 5. Calf stretching. Hubby has a calf stretcher that stretches with toe upward and the toe downward. It helped. 6. Rolling on tennis ball or some other balls. Massage too. 7. In the early stages, I did the ice. And compression socks. Didn't ice as much as I probably should have but I did usually ice after long runs. Good luck with it. PF sucks. lol - pretty much been doing all of that - I did figure out the shoes that initially caused the issue - changed up my running shoes and they didn't fit my feet right - that has now been rectified been stretching, taping, my chiropractor does her voodoo on my foot which has been working and I have an awesome massage therapist who does myofacsia massage - so she gets into the foot really deep (painful but it helps). It was doing pretty good (like a 2-3 on the pain scale), but this last week it just decided to be a pain in the butt and amped up the pain... |

I'm feeling the need for a bit more motivation to get me out of bed in the morning....I'll set my goal at 10 sessions for the rest of the month, I'm not too worried about the distance. I've just got to get the running shoes on and get out there! |

Elite 3489 Lakewood, CO | Subject: RE: running challenge for Aug? Ugh, I am slower now than I was in January - yuck. Ran a 5k tonight and all I could muster was 48 seconds slower than a 5k I ran Jan 5......And this is pretty much the same course that I have my adult 5k PR on I was nearly 2 minutes slower than that..... Ok, pity party over. Now I just need to run more ride more, eat better and drop weight. |

Extreme Veteran 1222 Tallahassee, Florida | Subject: RE: running challenge for Aug? Didn't get my long run in the weekend because was cheering hubby in his OLY. It was fun. Got a lot of back and forth walking, helping some of the runners, and even pseudo-volunteering by picking up cups at the aid station. Afterwards we went rafting so today I got out for a short run before the soreness catches up with my body. I was hoping to catch the 1000 mile pace bunny this weekend but it will have to be next week. Keep running everyone. |

Extreme Veteran 1574 | Subject: RE: running challenge for Aug? I am so far behind and finally went for a run last night to try to get back on track. 1/2 mile into the run and I get called back to work, what the heck! It just seems like the wheels have come off since my half with work and life, but I'll get them put back on and balanced |

Champion 14677 | Subject: RE: running challenge for Aug? It seems like there is a bunch of us behind. We had better get going! I need to update the spreadsheet but I am no where near my goal. Though, I have been doing some other training for a sprint tri that I am doing next weekend that was not in the plans when I started this challenge. |

1159 | Subject: RE: running challenge for Aug? as long as I hit all my other planned runs for the month, I should be good...its just a matter of not slacking off, since the run is my least favorite part of the Tri - since I am supposed to be picking up the distances this month for my HIM end of October |
