Up to 39,150 so far. These IM (medley) swims sure keep things fun this time of year.

79400 to go. No exciting workouts, ladder up and down today 25s to 100s and back. Really just want to get back in the swing of things.

I will hopefully grab my next swim this Thursday. Today I ran and barely survived 5 miles. Took a steep hill during a snowmobile outing on Saturday and slammed my knees, shins, and HEAD into the front of the sled. I was pretty beat up. Thank goodness for helmets! My neck is stiff and I am bruised all around my knee caps and down my shins. It was sort of scary but didn't ruin the trip by any means! We still had a blast and I continued on for the rest of the weekend. Great job out of all of you. I will post progress as we get deeper into this (for the entire group).
Ouch, sounds painful. Glad you are okay. Swimming is good rehab

I *still* haven't started for a couple of reasons. Looks like I am going to postpone until Feb 1. I *still* plan on getting this done, though, I'll just have to ramp up the yards or the frequency a little quicker than first expected.

That would give me essentially 12 weeks to do it. If I swim 3x per week, that averages out to 2444.4 yards per workout. I just need to bring the sets back up to 3K within the first couple weeks and I'll blow this out, especially considering I'll probably swim 4x a lot of weeks once I get into it.

I'm still dreading that first trip back to the pool though. Having done it all my life, I know myself and how I react to it. I get changed up, and I go sit right on the edge of the pool and have to spend 10 minutes convincing myself to get in.

Yikes!  HOpe you feel better soon!

I kinda forgot I signed up for this challenge, so haven't checked in.  I HAVE been swimming though .  I am just over 17500 m so far since Jan 1.  Keep it up everyone!

YTD = 24,000 down and 64,000 to go.

Not too late to play! Join us.

I am getting off to a late start. I am at 11,900 today. Finally got back in after fighting the chest cold! Ended up getting in 2200
today. Will hit it hard again tomorrow!

Keep swimming.

I will have to back track my totals... that said I did swim 16000 metres this last 7 days. Bloody sad that is still less than the biggest days from my swimming days.

Ah, I came to terms with that a few years ago.  Even if I wanted to I don't have the time I did in HS and college to train.

I am at 15,800 for the month of January. Was able to get in the pool three times this week. I am only doing Olympic training and will not start HIM or IM training until later in the season so I am pleased with 3 swims at around 2000 per week. Can't imagine swimming like some of you do!!! Not a swimmer by nature but I do enjoy it!

Hay,

i'm in. I'm training for OD distances. From 1st of january untill today i count in 12900m ~ 8.01miles. So I'll have to add a little more effort into it. I have to say I had a slow start though. 50m by May 1st should be possible.

60,000 yds for the month. A bit low, dealt with sickness early on and pool closures the later half.

The funny thing about triathlon. Elite ITU (Oly) racers swim more than Elite Ironman racers. You would think that would be true for AG but not so much...

Swam another 11000 metres this week. Including a 1500 race... 17.28. Now I am tired.

Time to work on picking up my stroke rate.

That would strike many AG as funny since volume is often tied to event distance. However, as you know, volume is more to maximizing performance with the composition of that volume altering depending on the event, though probably changing less than many might think at first. The swim in ITU is more important than in non-draft, so they have to be more prepared for the their best to be better.

And nice going on the 1500!

1900 this AM. Speed and threshold intervals. Good workout. Legs are actually tired. And now, I need to get on my bike for 70 minutes!

My pool is back open, and I'm officially on the board. My first swim since mid/late September. Felt really ineffective through the water, but that's the way I normally feel when I haven't been in for a while.

2000 yards (actually just a bit more...the ridiculous pool at my Y is just over 26 yards long, but isn't quite 25m, so I count my workouts as 25 yards. Really screws me up when I go to an actual yard pool, though...)

I wanted 2500, but I was a few minutes late starting and I ran up against the damn water aerobics class. Oh well, at least I'm finally making progress.

I think quite truly for the first time I 'get it'. It's not just about the fitness. It's not just about the great little endorphin rush as you hit 5, 10, 15 miles...its not just the medal at the end.
