New user ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Gonna be a cold one. I have a question for the group. What is everyone planning as far as a pump on race morning, I doubt my pump will fit in my morning clothes bag and the wife isn't going to the swim start it's about the boy's nap time and she will be at T2 when he wakes up. So I don't have anyone to grab the pump when I'm done, and I have heard the pumps/compressor supplied by WTC have a heck of a line or rarely work. |
![]() ![]() |
![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Yea there is a pretty big line for the pumps but never seen anyone have any problems eventually getting one. Just take a pump with you to the hotel pump your tires before you drop your bike off Friday you are not going to lose that much air pressure over night and if you do you got a bigger problem then just air pressure. I have done that for both my half ironman and have been fine. This race will be fun really looking forward to that bike course. I think the change of scenery will do wonders too never done a triathlon outside of the desert. |

Except for the run its all high desert sagebrush ![]() The run is nice and green though. |

Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() the 56 deg is also 3 down. I don't know about you but I don't plan to swim 3 feet under the surface. it should be about 60 or higher at the top. |

![]() ![]() | ![]() Another link to temp. The local tri shop is measuring about 18" down at the actual race venue. The bad news, it matches the corp of engineers temps ![]() https://www.facebook.com/TriTownBoise?fref=nf It's warming up. I bet the water will be great by race day ![]() Edited by Mtnwesttri 2014-05-20 10:22 PM |

![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Ever watch the projected weather for Boise its like watching a crazy person. Been watching it for a week now for June 7th its gone from 77 degrees to 89 degrees and back and from 3 to 9 mile per hour winds. |
![]() ![]() |
New user ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I'll take 77 degrees with a 3 MPH wind anyday of the week |
![]() ![]() |
![]() ![]() | ![]() What says BT? Over under on the 77deg.? I say over ![]() BTW, Army Corp temp was 58 on the 22nd. I think it will be almost just right by race day |
![]() ![]() |
New user ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I'm hoping for the over but not by much, say 80 more importantly I'm hoping for the under with the wind. |

![]() ![]() | ![]() Aloha Everyone: This is my first HIM and I am beside myself with anxiety. I've done all the right training, Sprints, Olypmics, marathons, 1/2 marathons, but I am scared that maybe I didn't train enough. It probably doesn't help the water is going to be so cold. ![]() -Coming from Hawaii |

![]() ![]() | ![]() No worries about the water temp, it's officially up to a balmy 60 deg http://www.nww.usace.army.mil/Missions/Recreation/LuckyPeakDamandLa... It'll be just like back in Hawaii for you ![]() The day is getting closer, my plan has a slight reduction in load this week, then the major taper begins. I can't believe how excited I am that my long ride is "only" 50 miles this week ![]() Last week was great training, except my long run. I just didn't have any pop in my step. I figure it is due to three things 1. General fatigue 2. Altitude, I was about 3000 ft higher than normal, at a cabin in the mountains. 3. Got locked into a slow pace running with my sister-in-law for the first 4 miles, and just couldn't mentally or physically break into gear after that. *Plus I can't forget the stop at mile 5.75 searching for suitable foliage so I didn't have to run sockless ![]() Regardless of the cause, I finished the run, and finished the week strong with a fun OWS in Lake Cascade. Funny enough, the water up there is noticeably warmer than the water down at Black Canyon dam, even though they are fed by the same river |

It doesn't help that my first 2 half ironman were complete disasters. I talked with a more experience triathlete and I think we figured out by heat exhaustion issue I got an Olympic triathlon this Saturday and am going to try a different hydration. |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Who's down for meeting up on Thursday to see just how cold that water is going to be and to ride part of the course?? (I'm thinking maybe 20 miles tops) We could finish the day with a late lunch and a beer somewhere downtown... I'll be on a borrowed bike since my bike won't be arriving until Friday...It will probably have regular pedals and I'll be in running shoes so don't expect much for speed! ![]() |

I'll be at work all week, saving my vacation days for other adventures. That's OK because I am surly and unfriendly in real life, unlike my on-line persona ![]() In all honesty that sounds like a lot of fun, but I don't think I can make it work with my schedule. Enjoy the ride (I'll be running on my lunch break). Enjoy the swim (I'll hit the Y after packet pick-up, and hope no one poo'd in the pool again). Your plan is looking lot's better than mine. I think I'll look at a destination race for my next HIM or longer, having some down time before the race is very appealing. |
![]() ![]() |
![]() ![]() | ![]() I'm interested. I don't get to Boise until Thursday morning though. What time were you thinking? |
|
![]() ![]() |
New user ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I won't be able to make anything Thursday as we won't get into town until the afternoon but if anyone is up for a spin on the run course Friday morning let me know |

![]() ![]() | ![]() May is over. That means it RACE WEEK!!!! Totals for May: Swim 8:56:45, 28860 yds Bike 22:17:25, 413.47 miles Run 20:20:41, 130.85 miles I already feel lazy because I did my Saturday long run early enough to beat the heat, then due to a GPS issue I only swam 1 mile in the reservoir (I thought I swam 1.25, and didn't notice till I got home) I think taper week might be pretty difficult psychologically but I am determined to follow my training plan to the letter. No extra runs, no extra laps, just following the plan ![]() Post up your May totals, and let us know how you are all feeling. How about your goal times? Anyone want to share? I'm hoping for the best, and have a goal, a time goal, and a stretchy goal. Goal: finish! Time goal: sub 6hrs. 1 hr swim, 3:30 bike, 2:15 run, 15 min transitions. Stretchy goal: sub 5:30. 40 min swim, 2:48 bike, 1:50 run, 12 min transitions. I have met or beat all the times needed for the stretchy goal in training sessions. The only question is if the weather, my plan, and my fitness can come together. Good luck to all, it's going to be great. |

New user ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Yes race week finally Totals for May: Swim: 4h 38m 14s - 14500 Yd Bike: 21h 55m 42s - 405.27 Mi Run: 14h 55m 28s - 100.25 Mi First and foremost goal is to finish I think I can go sub 6:00 and leave it there Swim:45 T1: 07 Bike: 2:50 T2: 05 Run: 1:58 Hoping for very little wind |

Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Here are May's numbers...I feel really good. Not nearly as nervous as I was last time I did this race. (It was my first half and I've done 4 more and a full since) I'm hoping to break my HIM PR of 5:14, but with the fickle weather in Boise, my biggest goal is to push myself as hard as I know I can and not bonk towards the end like I tend to because I HATE eating while I race. Did my last long run and swim in June... Swim: 9h 51m 26s - 29340.42 Yd Bike: 24h 51m - 457.83 Miles Run: 14h 43m 29s - 105.55 Miles I was thinking about swimming/riding around noon or so...nothing too early. Get a hold of me at 480.600.2886. Call or text...I'll look forward to meeting as many of you who can make it. Edited by JasenGuy 2014-06-02 12:15 PM |

![]() ![]() | ![]() I know it's way early, but I am already getting a little weirded out by the tapering ![]() This is the first race I have ever tapered for, and starting Saturday I have been feeling lazy. Sat 14 mile run Plus 1 mile swim, Sunday rest, Monday 40 min bike Plus 1300 yd swim. First off I can believe how great I felt after the Saturday run and swim. This training stuff really works ![]() I'm following my plan, and am committed to following it faithfully this week, but i already want to do some extra runs ![]() |
|
![]() ![]() |
New user ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() yeah the taper is getting to me also but I think my legs feel good today is my last run before the race so we will see how it goes. Iteresting side note I saw a tweet this morning that said the got chocolate milk team is racing Boise this year, I'm interested to see how Apolo Ohno looks in comparison to Hines last year. |
![]() ![]() |
Expert ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I usually love the taper, but this time it's getting to me a bit too...My longest run leading up to this race has been 13.1 miles (I usually get in at least a 14-15 miler in there). And the last time I did that was over 2 weeks ago. (Last week I did a 6.5 mile brick and a 6.5 mile run the next day and last weekend my "long" run was only 10.25 miles) I'm taking a bit of a different approach than normal...Instead of just jamming as many miles into a month as I can, I've been including high quality track and tempo runs. According to some, this is the way to go about it....we'll see! I've been training in 90+ degree weather, so I'm hoping that the mild Boise climate will help me out. My bike is a well oiled machine and my swim stroke feels good. (Hopefully the water does too) This is the week where I doubt myself until the I get in that water...Let's do this already!! |

![]() ![]() | ![]() A blister???? A stupid Blister??? I haven't had a single blister since my first week of adult running last July. Nope, my feet are toughened up. I haven't had any hot spots with my training shoes. No problems with my socks. There's no way I could have a 1/2 dime sized, deep blister on the ball of my foot. It must just be my imagination. Sheesh....... (It's all good, if all I have to complain about is a blister than my life is pretty awesome ![]() |

I swam 2.4 miles in Lucky Peak last night. Water is cold and clear. I didn't wear a cap or booties and I survived, so shouldn't be too bad tomorrow. Good luck to everyone racing tomorrow! |
