This seems like a fine time to bring up the annual Turkey Testical Festival which occurs about 15 minutes from my house every year.

If that doesn't make you laugh, go try to tell a co-worker about it without laughing.  Go ahead, try to say the name out loud to another person.

I'll scan it as soon as I get home. We set it up last year for my sister-in-law, she's uptight and overconservative. So it made for great embarassment.

If you like good music, motorcycles, and beer you can't go wrong.  They always run out of "nuts" before I get there so I never have to eat them (I have, but I can go without).

Where are you people from that have oysters in your dressing?!?!

I guess being born & raised in Michigan that oysters weren't on our freshest food list. Stuffing with the little bits of apple are the way to go.

Only 51 more hours until the feast begins!!!!!!

Oh no you di'n't.

Stuffing acts like a big ol' Salmonella sponge. If you don't cook it enough, it'll kill your guests. And the only way to cook it enough is by overcooking the bird. So if you stuff the bird, you either get dead guests or a dry bird. And nobody wants either of those things.

Maybe you just don't know her guests....

I dunno.  We've eaten it that way for a long time.  I guess we've just been lucky.

oh YES i DID...  i don't overcook my bird so we're all eating the salmonella sponge..  none of us have ever gotten sick..  another way around it is to take all the stuffing out of the bird and bake it for an addl 10 min..

I have never eaten stuffing on thanksgiving that wasn't from the inside of a bird.  And I have never gotten sick and the turkey has never been dry....This is the first year I will not be having Thanksgiving dinner...my moms going to my sister's husbands family instead of cooking and I don't cook so really not that excited about it, more excited about running the turkey trot that morning.  Really going to miss the stuffing tho...without Oysters.

OK - invited to the Boss's house and charged with stuffing.  they plan on cooking it outside the bird.

So - to make it moist do I use extra butter and/or more broth?   yummmm.

I am a fan of real bread cubes from nice breads, fresh herbs, mushrooms, pecans, apple.

I miss a lot of food, but there's not much I actually feel sad about missing.  Stuffing at Thanksgiving is one of them.

Why do you have to miss stuffing?  That's so sad!

It's a southern thing.  THey have to be chopped up very fine and not a ton of them......they go in a cornbread type dressing that is not stuffed.  That's stuffing.  I usually make some of both.  How about pie? I make a pumpkin and a sweet potato.  Yummy.

If it's not going in the bird, it's dressing.

I make cornbread dressing/stuffing, but I also use real bread crumbs, etc. for texture and flavor. I don't do anything different with regard to moisture content ... but then again, I've been making it since I was a kid and don't really measure anything. You can always cook the dressing with aluminum foil over it until the last few minutes and then broil the top to make it crispy and brown.
