Mike,

I can get my gpx files to upload to BT.com, but the "save" button won't turn on allowing me to push it.  It's not active.  Any help?

When I have tried it the "save" button does not look like it is active but I actually click and the save feature comes up.

I'd like some input here from you GPS device users: some of these things are plotting points every 3 feet or so. That's a lot of data for this purpose and slows things down more than it's worth. I'm probably going to throttle it by adding some "if this point is less than n meters from the previous one, ignore it" logic when uploading.

My question to you is "how many meters should n be?".

Are the GPS points being removed now? On my run today, I get .30 mi less in the BT route. I've attached a BT vs Sporttrack route for the same area which shows some granularity lost in the BT route. Note that this isn't today's run as I captured the screenshots last week, but didn't have time to post.

I'll be updating this in the next day or so. The routes that tend to be problematic for size and number of points are bike routes, run routes aren't long enough to really be inefficient.

Maybe only throttling these for bike routes, or giving the option at upload time to remove points  that are very close together for efficiency?

I'm sure this will be an evolving issue. There are a few things that can be done but I don't see any perfect solutions.

I understand.

Something I was thinking was to allow the total distance to be manually overriden.

I'm not really too concerned if the actual route plot is cutting corners or not (the previous attached BT route is fine), but it would be a pain to have to remember what the GPS-reported distance is every time that route is used. Good idea?

What am I doing wrong?

Add route
Browse, select the gpx  I've exported from MB
click bike
click go

Returns with the map wwith no route, no distance, and no elevation.  Thoughts?

Second issue - I have previously loaded routes before this way, but now when I go to look at them , all I get is one waypoint, at the beginning of the route.  i.e.  http://www.beginnertriathlete.com/discussion/training/map.asp?routeid=1644

Chris, can you email me the file you're having problems with?

Also, when I click on that link I get the whole route, both in FireFox 2 and Internet Explorer 7. What browser are you using?

I uploaded my first route today...and it didn't show up correctly on here. If I look at it in training center, easyGPS or google earth it shows up correctly. I know there was some talk of dropping some of the way points when the file is uploaded, is that what happened?

I have the Garmin forerunner 305, set to smart recording. I imported to easyGPS and exported the gpx file from there.

screen shot of what it looks like in route manager vs below what it looks like in Google Earth

and here is the gpx file.

It appears to be from dropping points. That'll be removed in the next version in favor of putting limits on the sizes of files that can be uploaded.

Okay, So now I am asking the BT community for their expertise hear. I have downloaded a route from motionbased to a gpx file and attempted to upload this file to BT. However, all I get is about 1/8 of the run on BT, but on motionbased, Garmin Training center, etc. it looks fine.

What am I doing wrong?

Here is a screen shot of the route on BT (in red) and on Motionbased (in Blue) also the GPX file.

Thanx in advance.

I tried to upload a GPX file from my 305 via motionbased- it uploaded with no trouble, and the route and elevation show up perfectly, but it has the distance as 0. I tried it twice with 2 different days of the same run, and the same thing happened.  Any thoughts?  I was going to email it to BT support, but I couldn't find the actual email address, and the email page for support doesn't have an attachment button .

Nice work on this!!

When I upload my data from my Garmin Forerunner 305 to motionbased.......that data is not exactly the same as in the Garmin Training Center......the distance, average mph, speed and elevation will be slightly different.....anyone else experience this? Does anyone have an any info on it? Is there any other way to get the info directly from the Garmin Training Center other than going through motionbased?

I want you to try something first. You may have an older version of the code that does the upload in your browser cache. On the map page, type CTRL+F5 to force your browser to get the latest version and then try the upload. If there's still no distance value email the file and we'll see what's up with it.

I'm having trouble, too. I went to upload a run and a bike but it won't show the whole course. It just shows about 2/3 of the bike and 1/3 of the run. ???

Files are attached.  Could not attach the files - too big.
