If the 13th is a go, I may be able to join, unless it's the weekend we put in the dock.  I have COLT the weekend before so I'll be in the season of balancing racing & training with family life at the lake...and as for Mother's Day...since I'm the mom, I have no issues!

What a better way to celebrate Mothers Day than with being healthy and doing an early season no hassles triathlon!  Honey, are you reading this?  Sweatie?

How about a MN BT Polar dip??? First ice out swim??? (I am dopped up on cold meds so I might be a little crazy right now!)

I am excited about the mock tri!

Hey ya'll! Count me in on the mock-tri. I'm in for Albert Lea on the 20th, so this will be a good warm-up. Just how cold will the water be? I'm an East Coast/ Southern transplant and not used to the frozen north.

Hey peeps: I want to get the lake practice (been swimming inside, need to make that outdoor switch) and as far as I can tell, thier is going to be a mini tri pratice deal on Sunday May 13, 2007 on Mother's day. No time or location has been solidified. And people who are moms, have a mom or interacte with people reffered to as MOM, should clear it before committing?

I am in not matter what! I also have a S.O. who can watch stuff and he is a great cheerleader. I wil stay close to this thread.

I'm not crazy about the May 13th idea, now that we know about mother's day. Could we do something in June? Does anyone have a tri before Minneman that they want to prepare for? If not, them maybe we can do this early June?

Both the 12th and memorial day weekend are fine by me. In fact, Nikki (triofthetiger) and I had already penciled in a swim both days together, and planned an open water for memorial day weekend. Although I am not sure she knew that it was a holiday weekend. Anyway, I am open.

The 12th is out for anybody doing the New Prague half as well as myself, I have class on that day.  I think this is going to be a case where we just need to pick a date and run with it.  No way is every date going to work for all.

Do you all mind if I join you? I am a REAL newbie, and have never done an OW swim with others. I also don't have a wetsuit (would this be necessary?).

I would love to come to get my feet wet (bad pun...sorry) -- but, I don't want to hold you guys back! I am NOT a strong swimmer, and swimming in OW will be a challenge for me, I'm sure.

Just let me know if there would be room for a noob to tag along -- if you're all in the same time-ranges and would like to stick together, that is understandable too, so no worries!

Thanks guys and gals.

Absolutely you can join in, if we can agree on a date that works.  Everybody does things at different speeds so you would be sure to fit in just fine.  We just need to get a date solidified that hopefully works for everyone.  Welcome to the site.

Hello and welcome! Of course you're welcome to join! The more, the merrier!

I don't know what the latest is for dates, but at that time of year, I'd strongly advise a wetsuit. Can you borrow one from anyone, by chance? Some places rent them as well, I believe.

Autumn mentioned memorial day being an option.  That falls on May 28th.  Anybody think that would work?  I also like May 13th, but I know that is Mothers day and I hate to get anyone in trouble.  If this is something people want to do lets just come up with a date that works for most people and go for it.

Kelly and Bryan are open for

May 13th and May 28th

Mother's Day I'm out, Memorial Day SHOULD work for me.  We have a church picnic that afternoon.  If I don't have too many set-up responsibilities, I'll be there.  I should have my new wetsuit by then as well.

BTW, after Memorial Day, I start regular open water swims.  I swim Lake Nokomis (west beach) in the morning on Monday, Wednesday and Friday, usually about 6:30am to 7:15am.  After the swim, I change at the 'oversized' (handicap accessible) Port-O-John or the public access restroom (if it's open) into a T-shirt and sweats and shower and change at my work gym.  Not the best situation, but I'll take any OWS practice that I can get.  Send me an inspire if you're interested.

There's usually about a half dozen triathletes training in the morning, and more once it gets closer to the Lifetime Fitness Tri in mid-July (it's the 'starting' beach for Lifetime).  Most folks swim laps just outside or inside of the buoys (length of beach is 'about' 87 yds).

I'm not familiar with the Mpls lakes very well, but think they would be a good central place to do this.  I'm thinking something like .25 swim, 7-10 bike and 2-3 run.  Something short just to work the kinks out.  I'll start leaving messages for everybody who has responded to this page and any other Minnesotans I can think of and try to come up with the best date possible.  We'll be bringing out 11 year old and 5 year old so I'm sure we could figure out what to do with other peoples kids.  We'll go with a simple majority rules for the date.  Either May 13th, which is Mothers day, or May 28th which is Memorial day.  If we do it Mothers day we'll aim for early so people can go do the family stuff.  Please vote for one or bothe of the dates and we'll go with the majority.  I'm willing to keep track of people and announcements if someone else can help with the location.  So far we have the following requests.

Bryan and Kelly      Both dates

Autumn                   Both dates

Sparco                    May 28th

May 12th is the MS 30/60 mile bike ride, so I am busy that day. I am not sure what lakes in the cities will be "open" for swimming in mid-May either.

Hey all. I am in for anything on Memorial Day at this moment, and cannot make it on Mother's Day. However, if the opportunity arises it looks like I might go out of town for the Indy 500. That's somewhat of a long shot because I am leaving the planning up to my husband So, please keep me in the loop but my vote maybe shouldn't count.

I am open either day and any location.
I am leaning more toward mothers day and I can bring my husband who is great at watching stuff like kids, dogs and the like.
Without adding too much crazy, what if we did BOTH days?? those who can gather on 5-13 and those who can do 5-25, AND if people want they can do BOTH....?
Just want to make it hard. BGT
PS did a race Saturday monring got my PB 40:12 for the 5k thought it was 39:48, but looked at the wrong name, still my best time!!!
