I'm a newb, so I'm using my old 80's road bike, a Zebrakenko. Chromoly frame, upgraded to 21 speed indexed shifters, clip pedals. Not as light as a modern road bike, but much lighter than a hybrid. No aero bars yet, but they'll come this spring. I figure that currently my bike is not the main thing slowing me down

I might upgrade to a better one next year when I'm more fit, but right now can't see spending the $$$ for a really good road bike.

2002 Litespeed Blade - haven't used since September 15, 2002 due to double achilles injury. I'm healing slowly and can now ride my windtrainer 30 minutes 2x wk. Injuries sucks, train smart.

I just picked up a Forte` from a Performance Bike shop on clearance. It was listed at over $1,000 and got it for $650.00. It has Shimano 105 components and Columbia tubing. I was impressed with it. We'll see how it does this summer.

Just ordered my first bike in years. I've been on the fence, but road bike it is. A Douglass Motive 105 from Colorado Cyclist (rated a best buy in Bicycling magazine) - really looking forward to getting it (along with a rim drive trainer from Nashbar - IA winter you know) I'm excited - it's more bike than I was thinking as entry for a rookie - see the thread "Celebrate with me!" I had a nice huffy balloon tire job ready to go (my neighbor's garage) for $25.) Shimano 105, carbon fork and other great componetry.

Fuji newest '03 with some aerobars slapped on there. Great bike, good alum frame. I still have the Tiagra components but eventually will upgrade next season.

Specialized Dolce Elite, as is. I am very happy with the female specific frame. This is the most comfortable bike that I have ever ridden.

Okay, I have no idea how to partake of the cool survey.

I have forgotten the exact details of my 'new' road bike- because it's been so long since i last used it.

when I first started tri's didn't want to invest, so i used my MTB trek 7000, with smooth tires. this got real heavy in the uphills of Galena

For my second year [after i became addicted], I invest in a Raleigh road bike, a European version with campiagnolo components and clipless pedals. I'd have to run downstairs to the basement to check the exact components- but i love it that it's steel because it absorbs a lot of the road bumps a lot better. I went with road- just incase in the future I should one day change my mind about tri's i'd still have a good road bike.

I have an Italian road bike - Wilier Escape, has a carbon fork and is light. I am small and it fits me well. No aero bars, I am chicken of them. Look pedals, Selle Italia women's saddle (my butt thanks me)

At the end of the year Terry Bicycles had a sale and I picked up a Symmetry about 20% off. Our local bike guru did the set-up for me for free and I plan to put aero bars on it to train with this summer. This is the first new bike I've had in years and I'm SO excited about it - definitely the best present! Before this I was riding a second-hand Norco, also a fun, fast bike but a little large in the frame for me.

I have a 1971 model Bottechia Pro. with full campy nuevo record componets .
I am shopping for a new bike. I found one I liked (Felt)and weighed it and my old bike they were equal in weight, and I couldn't make the plunge.
I rode it in the MS Tour 150 last Oct. and finished ahead of the middle of the group. I was satisfied.
I would like to change my saddle (Brooks Brick) to a new one.

All-terrain: a Gary Fischer Marlin.

On-road: Still deciding between my old 12 speed Centurian Accordo, or putting slicks on the Fischer.

Maybe a more race specific bike next year......

Question for the riders...I have been "contemplating" (aka do I have enough money saved?) getting a set of egg beaters or lolly pop pedals (speedplays, or something like them) ;-). What I would like to hear is your experience with your pedals and why you would (not) recommend them to me, your new friend. I look forward to your answers. Thanks,
Vanessa

I just ordered a new road machine!!! There is a pretty cool bike shop in town. They cater more to road riders. You're fitted by a guy who is an excersize physiologist. He takes a bunch of measurements & then figures the best frame geometry. This is matched-up to the specs of the various makes & models available. Some really great bikes turned out not to be the best choice for my own measurements. I ended up getting a LeMond Alpe d'Huez. It's a high quality aluminum frame with a carbon fork & Ultegra components, Bontrager wheels, etc. for $1400... (not a bad price for all-Ultegra!) It weighs about 18 pounds & makes my Trek hybrid feel like a fully-loaded olympic barbell. It won't be paid for till mid-April & I can't wait!

Giant OCR1 with shimano 105, and some new aerobars recently installed. I'll have to practice while on the trainer to make sure I don't tip over when actually using them on the road.

I just purchased a new Felt S32. I tried several bikes and this one was very comfortable and the price was much less than some of the other bikes that fit me well.
