This is not a swim month for me and I'm planning on swimming about once a week this month, so I'm only going to set my goal at 12,000 meters.  Sorry it sounds low, but more really isn't going to happen this month without drastic changes in my work schedule (and that certainly isn't going to happen).

WOW! that looks pretty high. But I sprained my ankle and all I can do is swim right now, so I think I'll leave it.

Your blog says you've only swam 9600 yd this year. Are you going to be ok doing that kind of yardage over the course of a month? (ie, don't want to get an over-use injury?) Just making sure our team wins being a concerned citizen.

Yes. The past month had been off for me, but my swim team season (just joined) starts tomorow. Because I have been very busy, and swim team had not started, the training for swimming you see, came on free time, not swim team time. Don't worry. I can achieve my goal. I usually swim for around and hour and a half each time. We will win!!

Someone once told me of a way to measure distance using google.earth or something like that.  Anyone ever done this for an open water swim distance?

That sounds like fun I want to play!

Goal is 18000m this month. It´s not more because I will only swim once for the next week (we are going aborad) and then not more than twice a week after that because this month is bike focused. I am also still trying to get rid of an eye infection which gets worse every time I swim

And of course the girls will win

Okay, I am setting my goal for 26,000. I wanted to do more but I found out I am in an all week training class at work next week so it really nixes my plans. I am going to try and fit in some open water sessions into my plan, so I will check out the distances and try to make sure it is 2000 yards each time I swim either in the pool or at the lake.

Count me in. My goal is 10,000m. Where are all of the boys? Are they afraid of us???

Kristen

Edited to add: (No, I'm not sandbagging. I'm learning to swim ...and it would be my biggest swim month so far if I make it.)

I'm in, too. This is my first challenge, ever, so... I'm trying not to chicken out as I type.

I'm down for 10,000 yds. I only swim twice a week (and one of those is a short lunchtime session); should up that to 3x, but life gets in the way, often as not. So I'm not sandbagging - 10k is a slight increase for me. I'll have to start doing some morning sessions so I can log more yards.

Enders and I will be keeping company in the shallow end of the pool!

I'm not very good at smack talk so can I just be generally annoying instead?   I can start by joining late and waaaaaaaaay lowering the bar when I set my goal.

I swam 20 minutes yesterday in open water.  I couldn't figure out the BT route planner so used google maps and my architect's scale to figure distance:  held the scale up to the screen - I'm very  scientific about these things.  It looks like 600 yards.  Of course I do not swim straight and kept either beaching myself or finding that I had made considerable progress towards the Dominican Republic.  If I swam 6,000 yards this month, I would be very impressed with myself.

If anyone would care to check my distance, it is the beach just southwest of Aguada, Puerto Rico near Carr. 115.   I swim from the first little Cabana and palm tree on the east side to the mouth of the river and back.  If you look closely at the satelite picture that's me looking swish in my Kmart one piece just walking into the surf!

I will continue with my plan of being annoying by not checking in for a long time since my computer seems to be mortally wounded.

 Best Regards,

Annie - only semi boyant but game

No I don't sweat chlorine, but I sure smell like it!
My ankle is sprained so I can't bike or run, and I feel bad when I don't train. Thanks everyone for getting this swim challenge together, now I have something to do! Keep up the great work girls!

I love your avatar Bopper, the moving triathlete is awesome... oh wait, he stopped moving. What happened? Yesterday he was racing.

I'm a beginner triathlete, but I've been swimming competitively most of my life. I swam in high school, and my first year of college (small school) and I've joined a local YMCA adult 'swim team'. It is only called a team because we have a coach. It keeps me in shape, and I love it. I wish I could bike though. I just don't enjoy it that much yet. I should join a bike challenge. I usually average only 11 or 12 mph on my bike, so that is definitely my weakest link.

Actually, you're not a bad swimmer yourself, better than most of the people on my 'team'. And I would trade some of my swimming skills for some of your biking skill anyday. Especially since biking is the biggest part of a triathlon. Keep up the good work!

7350 for this first week. Although I usually count Sunday as the last day of the week. Should be able to get up to about 10,000 today.

I guess Renee isn't playing. (!) Has anyone taken tally of who's participating and what the challenge goals are? I would offer to do so, but really have too much going on this month already....

I think this is everybody and their goals for the girl's team. Are we still doing this, or is everybody just too busy swimming to post? Oh, and where are all the guys besides Bopper?
