3.) Madison, WI will be staying at a friend's beach house less than a mile from the course

4.) My god, I've gone over this at least 100 times.  I really must learn that these little decisions are not that big of a deal.  Pick a time- go with it- try to beat it.  So here goes:

I'll be satisfied with a finish, under 6 hr 40 min would be better.  I'm training through this race on the way to IM WI.  Due to this, this will be a very conervative race for me....The following goals are more important to me than time:

-make it to the start line healthy and to the finish line injury free with a smile on my face 

- zero in on a nutrition plan (not for an ironman nutrition plan, but figure out which foods mess with my stomach during the longer distance)

-reap all of the experience I can...this will be my first half ever, longest race to date, and last event before IM.

5. First Half...a trainng stop on the way to Ironman

Pretty nervous about this one...Who knows where I'll be at this point in my training...It's also fairly close to IM so I know that will be in my head.  I'm nervous about this race because I know it will hurt and I don't want to carry that thought into Ironman.  This race will only make the distance realistic and tangible.....Part of me wants to operate on Ignorance is Bliss.  If that makes sense?  I'm worried about digestion/nutrition/gas/bloating...my stomach is pretty sensitive to all that.

3.  From Chicago area (Oak Park) and staying at the Knight's Inn in Racine (this is funny because I'm kind of a "hotel snob" but we just waited waaaay too long to get a room!)
4.  Goal time is anything under 7 hours (but I am known to be a bit of a sandbagger...I just like to set conservative goals )
5.  This is my first HIM, only second season of tri's
6.  I am seriously starting to get nervous about this race.  It didn't sound like a big deal when I signed up, but after I ran a 1/2 marathon a few weeks ago it all hit home for me.  You mean I have to run 13.1 miles AFTER biking 56?  What did I sign up for?!!!

Because you and Jon are so nice and we have a few special things in common <wink> I'll make you this generous offer.  I'll swap rooms with you (Marriott) if you'll pay for both.  No, no, don't thank me, I'm just that nice of a guy.

3. Rochester Hills (North of Detroit by 20 mi).  Staying at the Super 8 in Sawyer (10mi south)
4. 5:15.  Did 5:31 last year averaging 10:50's on the run.  I've got a LOT of room to improve.
5. 3rd HIM (Steelhead last year, and Musselman this year in July 3 wks before)
6. I hope this is the year I can glue 3 events together in a row.  The swim's already there.  The bike will be there.  The run needs work.  I've gotta run.

Oh, and since Steelhead is a 70.3 race, they don't follow USAT 'age up' rules...you race in the AG that you're actually in on race day.  So if you're turning 40 in November (like I did last year), you'll race M35-39 this year, not M40-44. Last year's learning...

Now?  Aren't you a little early?  Or is it more of a permanent thing?

6. Did my first 50+ mile ride two weeks ago (in 20-30 mph winds off Lake Michigan) and thought, "How in the he11 am I going to run 13.1mi after something like that!?"  Oh yeah, its called TRAINING - better get at it!!!

This will be my 4th HIM-3rd time doing  SoR
I FINALLY got under 6:00 (barely!) last year and would like to do it again, but I am going to have seriously limited training time this summer.  This is most likely my only tri and is for fun...lets say 6:15.

Oh and Jen?  NO SWEAT!  You'll be GREAT   If I can do this you absolutely can.

6) This CAN be a fast race, but if it decides to be  a swelter-fest, then my run will be severly hampered, like last year. I think I perspired a small child or two off on the run.

No, I didn't.  I stayed at the red roof inn.  It was OK.  The Super 8 was the closest available, so that's what I got after waiting until 2 weeks ago to make reservations. Looks like a fairly new property, and  I don't need the hotel to be much, so the bar's pretty low.  I hope the super 8 can jump over it. 

Hey everybody.

I live in South Bend, IN, and I will drive to the race. It is only about 35-40 minutes away, at the most, and there are plenty of hotels and restaurants, that will NOT be packed for this race. There are a couple hotels right on the NW corner of SB on the bypass. This HWY puts you 22 miles from SJ-BH, and it has a 70 mph speed limit, so you do the math. If anybody has any questions, feel free to pm me.

6.  Going to use Hammer products for nutrition(perpetuem, heed & gels).  I read up on their stuff and bought into it like it was on sale.  So now I have an a$$load of Hammer stuff that I hope I can get rid of by the end of the summer.   Been training with it and it seems to be going alright.
