Erin, Have you done some work just sprinting? When I got ready for my first tri this yea my swim coach had me do 6 x50 race pace minimal break (first tri had a 300 m swim) My best practice set was around 7 min. My race day was 7:39 but it was pouring that dy and they made us stnd in the rain pre swim start so the pool water felt more like bath water and I just relaxed and enjoyed the wamth Dee is NOT the one suffering from Ferret Fetish. Hmph! LOL |

Well I was a competive swimmer for most of my live in fact when i was in school i think i slept in the water. I never took it much farther which is one of the reasons i started tri's anyways there is an alumi swim meet ever dec so I plan on kicking some high school at it so i need to ramp up the work outs.. I'm thinking anything over 3000 a work out will be good for me.. and should put me at my goal.. 5 k would be nice but that will be part of my long slow days you forgot to mention you already dropped in and gave me a hard time about not matching your swim goal... so what was it??? So I guess the challenge is on.... huh? So.... if you are challenging me... what are the stakes? Is Bajapat doing yards or meters? 'Cause you're doing meters, which is longer than yards. (Just trying to be helpful here! LOL) |

Veteran 190 Knoxville, TN | Subject: RE: Putrid Pudding Hello fellow teammates. looking forward to a wet december. Im shooting for 12hrs in the pool, which I should be able to hit if the pool stays open for break. I teach so I have most of december off, and wanted to focus on some swimming, so this challenge was nice timing. Im having quite a thanksgiving hangover, and hope a challenge will get me going again! |

48 | Subject: RE: Putrid Pudding I had expected to get in an open water swim today but all the runoff from the recent rain (especially with all the ash in the San Diego area) meant postponing until next weekend. Bummer! Since it sounds like we have some serious swimmers on our team (20x500m?!?!?), can anyone recommend their favorite...umm...I mean most challenging (and possibly least favorite) pool workout that can be done in 30-40 min? I don't have a coach, masters team, or even swim buddy right now so I'm looking for new workouts that will be really challenging. On a separate note, the 20x500m on New Years Eve intrigues me...maybe if I can get off work early that day....nah...unless I get one of those water-proof ipod cases by then. |

Hi Betsy, BT has some swim workouts. Click the "Programs" button at the very top of the page. Look for swim focused programs. Maybe that will give you some starting ideas. - Dee |

A very good swimmer on BT recommeded a workout structure that basically went: - Long warm up (negative splitting 500s) - Drill work to improve your weakness - Work sets: so 100 repeats or a pyramid set or longish swim depending on your focus - Cool Down |

I might try and get a recovery swim in on Monday. I like doing that when my body's all stiff and sore from running. |

Master 1848 Canandaigua | Subject: RE: Putrid Pudding Hi Puddins, I'm an old swimmer from high school. Didn't do any in college. I'm very comfortable on the water. Mom through in the water probably before we could walk. Then non-stop Y lessons. I live in the Finger Lakes area. Canandaigua. Swam across that lake a few time. Our Master's group has strong leaders. We have short hard practices all winter and can go 4 times a week. In the summer we use the lake for swims. I can post some good times now and then. Love the swim leg of the tri's. I'll be trying to put in 2000-2500yds a practice, for about 15,000 this month. Congrates to our team mate TriAya for finishing her marathon today> Yahoo! Remember long and lean! Dex |

To make it fair with the time difference neither swimmer will post any swims take on December 31 until January 1 USA time to ensure that neither competitor can play ‘catch up’ in the final moments. All distances will be converted to yards/metres for ease of comparison… Finally… the penalty: Sig line change “I got whipped by X in the December Swim Challenge so this month I am his/her slave” Edited by kaqphin 2007-12-02 11:59 PM |

Hehe, actually, we didn't really talk about triathloning at all last night. We've definitely talked about it at length in the past, and some of our conversation on Saturday night revolved around tris and marathons. |
